40th Wedding Anniversary

The 40t 00004000 h wedding anniversary is also known as the ruby wedding anniversary is really a rare kind of event, and if you’re to be one of these luckiest people who will deliver this speech then I would like to congratulate you first. So now if you’re looking to get some ideas in composing your wedding anniversary speech then I hope these ideas can help you to get started:

First, you can say a few words explaining about what Ruby anniversary is all about, the ruby itself represents passion and everlasting flame within your heart, just like what you two have had all these years, so it’s very suitable to mention about this in your speech.

Now the second part is to tell some stories, this wouldn’t be too difficult because I’m sure that you have lots of things to talk about in your life together for 40 years, all the laughter, sorrow, bump and bruises but somehow you both manage to stay together as a loving couple, tell them all in a sequential order so that it will be easier for you to find the exact words and not jumping into one event to another randomly.

You can also add some funny, hilarious stories about you two, the weird events, the funny accidents, the funny habits, the funny words, all things that would remind you just how much you love each other regardless all the differences you might have.

Third part is try to make the speech short and simple and not too long, I know that sometimes we can get carried away with our own stories and end up mumbling about every little thing that is not quite necessary to bring up in your speech, so to help you stay on track, you can write on a piece of paper all the speech’s punch lines, so you know what to say and how to say it perfectly, you even can put some duration notes near each punch line so you know how long you must speak about each topic.

Practice all these 3 parts over and over again until you can get it right, and once again I want to tell congratulate you for your wonderful 40th wedding anniversary I hope you can reach the 50th wedding anniversary, God bless you two.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Ideas for 40th wedding anniversary and also for my sister’s wedding photos?
I’m planning a 40th wedding anniversary party for my parents with no help from my brother and sister. It will be in June this year. I need help with it. I would to do scrapbooking or something with some my sister’s wedding photo but don’t what to do with them. Could some one help me please? I got some ideas but I need more.

    • ANSWER:
you should have a dinner party for them and have it be a 1940s theme or 60′s since that is when they got married. as table cards/programs you can have funny and historical facts about the year they were married. also have friends and family bring a photo/copy of a photo of them with or without your parents- then have a book at the dinner where you can paste the photo and a special memory message from the guest. then at the end of the night, you can present it to your parents. OR have people send the photo and message before hand and make a slide show. You’ll have to have self addressed envelopes for that, but they’ll love it!

  2. QUESTION:
Doing a surprise 40th Wedding anniversary party for my parents on a budget, what can I do?
Doing a surprise 40th Wedding Anniversary party for my parents on a very small budget!!!! Need ideas on buffet food and decorating the room, what can I do?

    • ANSWER:
      I have catered several events.

Go to a restaurant supply, a party supply or better yet: local church and ask the old church ladies where to buy party supplies. They will give you the lowdown on who has the best prices and selection where you live.

Get disposable tablecloths and napkins as well as hard plastic plates that are asian in design or that look like china with a gold or silver edge. Also, get the flatware that looks like silver and the clear plastic cups. Perhaps you will need a couple of disposable chafing dishes and sterno. The people there can help you with this.

Basically you will want to serve buffet style. Roasted pork loin is affordable and tasty. Get a nice dry rub like McCormick’s spicy and sweet and rub your pork loin,(be generous) add liquid to the bottom of the roasting pan (I prefer apple juice) and make sure you use a thermometer to ensure you don’t overcook.

If you have a nice big cutting board, carve the loin for your guests. Save the juice from the bottom of the pan for au jus. Serve with Uncle Ben’s Garden Wild Rice and sauteed garlic green beans. Greenbeens hold heat well.

Have people serve themselves rice and veg and then meat last, which you will slice and put over rice. Use an ice cream scoop for serving the rice to ensure portion control.

When thinking about portion, use the serving guides on the boxes of rice, figure 6 green beans per person and 6 oz. of meat.

Get a cake from local bakery. I hope your parents have a wonderful anniversary.

      40th Wedding Anniversary
Lovely red ruby is the classic gift material for the 40th anniversary!

Of course, forty red roses would make a beautiful gift for the 40th anniversary. For gardeners, ruby colored flowers such as nasturtium or a climbing rose with ruby colored blooms are also neat ideas.

When giving a gift to the couple, beautiful red artisan glass is a great idea. An artistic red momento box will keep the couple’s treasures safe and secure. For a more exotic gift, give a trip to the ruby mine in Cherokee, North Carolina. Other ideas include ruby colored paperweights, scented candles, candleholders, antique ruby glass, or red Asian-themed gifts are other options.

If you are having an anniversary party, add sparkly red glitter or red hearts to the cards.

    • ANSWER:
Of course you can. and should celebrate with a party. The 40th anniversary of a marriage is a big one, and honestly, if the couple is getting up in age, then it makes sense to have a nice party for them on this milestone, just in case one or both of them aren’t there for the 50th. Not to be morbit, but hey, it’s something to consider.

  16. QUESTION:
What is given for a 40th wedding anniversary?
What is given to parents for a 40th wedding anniversary? example: paper, crystal?

    • ANSWER:
Ruby is both the traditional and contemporary 40th wedding anniversary gift. If you don’t want to go all out and actually buy a ruby, or you don’t want to leave your Dad out if you buy Mom a necklace or something, just stick with something red – a nice bottle of red wine, gift certificates for a massage and dinner with a big bouquet of red roses, or a red kitchen appliance. Of course, you don’t have to stick with the list either, but your question WAS about those types of things, so don’t listen to people who say you shouldn’t use the lists because they’re lame. I think they can be kind of fun, and they provide inspiration if nothing else. :o )

  17. QUESTION:
What is the traditional wedding stone or gift associated with a 40th wedding anniversary?

    • ANSWER:
The traditional 40th wedding anniversary gifts are usually ruby – however these can be replaced by garnet as the modern option. Rubies are precious gemstones that are a deep red color. Garnets are darker, almost black, and are the modern alternative to rubies. Ruby jewelry or cufflinks set with rubies make a fantastic 40th wedding anniversary gift but are quite pricey. Garnets are cheaper but look good nonetheless. Garnets are often used in antique jewelry.

  30. QUESTION:
What are some good ideas for a 40th wedding anniversary party for my parents?
What are some good ideas for a 40th anniversary party for my parents?
    Ruby is the color

    Games to play
    entertainment
    centerpieces
    favors

thanks a bunch, we don’t have a lot of money so we would like to keep things simple. We have lots of helping hands though!

how corny would a “sock hop” be with possibly an elvis impersonator? I have loads of old records we could hang on the walls and decorate to make centerpieces. would this be a bit cheesy?

Any other ideas would be great! I did find out that the hool a hoop was a craze in 1958. We could have contests with them. lol We will probably have around 75 guests.

any other ideas are welcome. Thinking maybe my uncle or grandpa? dress up as a priest and then have my moms sisters and stuff be dressed up as crazy bridesmaids and do like a mock wedding. what do you think of this?
THANK YOU, for pointing that out! it is their 40th I just can’t do simple math!

    • ANSWER:
Hi. How nice of you to plan a party for your parents.

I am not trying to knock any of your ideas, but I would not do any kind of entertainment (see below), or any other corny (as you said) sock hop or elvis impersonator, or “dressed up” priests, etc. The reason being. I have no idea how old your parents are….but even if they were married young (20?)…that would make them 60 years old. I am 52 myself, and I like to have fun just like the next guy, but I would want a more elegant, quieter anniversry party.

Here is what I would do:

      ~ No games

~ Entertainment: How about just having some music playing from an ipod. You CAN have the music of that era (1968)….Elvis, and such….that would be nice.

Other entertainment: Depending on where the party is….inside or outside? You could make up a big display of picture of your parents (try to keep it a secret). My sister’s and I did this for our parents 50th and it was a big hit. Start with pictures of them dating (if you can find some)….then their marriage….then the kids….other events like vacations….family reunions/weddings….etc. Display them all on a nice board. Maybe someone can help you with this.

OR…..along the same lines…..and people do this at weddings too…..get all of the above mentioned pictures and have them put on to a dvd (there are companies that do this, or if you know someone with this capability, they can do it for you)….usually there is music playing in the background…..then you can show this at the party!!

Either one of the above would be nice and I KNOW would be a hit!

~ Cake: Is there a way to get a picture of the cake they had at their wedding? Perhaps you can take it to a bakery and they can duplicate the cake! That is one idea.

~ Centerpieces: Depending on how many tables you have, you can just do something simple like a small vase filled with a couple or roses or red tipped carnations?

~ A glass bowl filled with some “ruby colored” vase gems and then some floating candles?

OR….again a picture of your parents on their wedding day! Get a bunch of prints made and put them in some cheap frames that you can buy at a dollar store.

That’s it for my ideas! Good luck with the party!

  31. QUESTION:
    40th wedding anniversary?
Its my parents 40th wedding anniversary coming up. Does anyone have any good ideas for a gift?

    • ANSWER:
When my Aunt had her 40th, her favorite gift from her kids was a family picture that they had all taken together — she loved that they got together for the gift, and she loved that she didn’t know about it until it was given to her — at a dinner that all of her kids attended.

Traditionally, the 40th anniversary gift is Rubies, so you could add a twist and get a frame that has a couple of rubies on it.

  32. QUESTION:

We are planning a surprise dinner for my parents. All of the kids and grandkids will be there. But we need a really special gift for them. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
You could check out the website – http://www.ExpressionPrints.com – it allows you to upload a photo of your own or use one from their gallery. Then you can add text such as a personal message or love poem on top of the image and it even allows you to apply effects to the photo. You could do two separate gifts – one using a picture of all the ‘kids’ and one with the grandchildren – and on each write a special message regarding their 40 years together and how special it is it to the future generations.

Family cruise? Our 40th wedding anniversary is this summer. I would love to have a family cruise.?
The problem is: it would be DUTCH. There are 3 adult children and their spouses. No children. We want luxury, a good time and lots of time together. However, the financial resources of our children are not up to that much extravegance. Any ideas? How to get the biggest bang for our buck? Say a 5 day cruise ?

    • ANSWER:
I would say the best bang for your buck on a nice cruise ship would be Royal Caribbean. Its a great family cruise line with beautiful ships loaded with nice amenities. The best deal would be a cruise during the off-peak season. You can do a 5 night Caribbean cruise on Royal in September starting at about 9pp. Princess is another nice one. A little bit more expensive but its an option. Its a nice 6-night deal for you departing Barbados in May starting at 9pp. Check out these deals an more at link below.

  39. QUESTION:
My parent’s 40th wedding anniversary is coming up – how should I honor it?

    • ANSWER:
Lyndsi has some great ideas with the vow renewal. However, that is a choice the couple has to make and not the son.

The other idea about the slideshow was also fantastic. Perhaps the children and grands can put on a small skit or play about how the couple met, or acts… Or do a presentation to the couple.

Photos ‘then’ and ‘now’ in a nice frame is also good. A wedding anniversary certificate is nice as well.

  41. QUESTION:
Any ideas to honor my parents on the 40th Wedding Anniversary?
I would like to honor them on this special occasion but I am not sure how. I don’t want to make it too emotional because we just lost my older sister four months ago and we are all still grieving. Any good ideas for me?

    • ANSWER:
Check their wedding photos and other information to see if you can locate and include their wedding party members in the party. Put together a scrapbook within which family, friends, and others can provide anecdotes, stories, photos, etc., all of which celebrate their forty (!) years together. Pull out those old photo albums and collections of letters and include those which might have the most meaning for them.

Your sister would have wanted them to celebrate, I’m sure; just let them know how much you all love them and how happy you all are that they have remained a couple all this time. Encourage them to celebrate, if only for a short time.

Make it a special day for all of you.
