Giving a speech after 50 years of marriage would seem to be really easy, but expressing your emotions after 50 years doesn’t always get easier, sometimes it gets more difficult because the emotion becomes stronger, deeper, and more complicated. Whether you are the husband or wife or a dear friend that would like to make a speech, it can be difficult to find the right words to say that encapsulate a love that has been able to withstand 50 years of marriage.
If You Are One of the Couple
If you are either the husband or the wife, you should thank all of the guests for coming to celebrate 50 years of marriage with you. You should then express your gratitude to your spouse for hanging in there with you for all of these years. Share a story or some feelings with your spouse and your friends and family about a particularly inspiring time, loving time, difficult time, or a moment of levity in the 50 years of marriage that you think is appropriate. You can present your spouse with a gift during your speech as well, which is a great way to end your golden anniversary speech!
Where to Start
Starting a speech can be very difficult, so the best way to start off is with a brief introduction of yourself if you are not the husband or the wife. For instance, you don’t need to give your entire background you can simply say, “Hi, I’m Jane. I am a long time friend of Bill and Nancy and am so glad to be here today.” This will give the other guests that are at the party some idea of who you are and why you would want to give a speech at all!
What to Say
50 years of marriage, what do you say? If you are married, thank the couple for being an inspiration to you and your spouse. Thank them for sticking together and being two people that everyone could count on. You can tell the couple that you hope that your marriage can be as strong after 50 years as you know that theirs is now. If you have one, share a cute story that you think demonstrates the strength and beauty of the couple’s love. You can also present the couple with a gift, a framed picture, or a framed piece of scripture or a poem during your speech. The point of the speech is just to convey how happy you are for the couple for sticking together for 50 years, as well as to express what an inspiration they are to married people everywhere.
How to Close
Closing the speech can be the most difficult part after starting! The best thing you can do is say congratulations and that you hope to celebrate many more anniversaries, and thank them for sharing their day with you. The closing needn’t be anything extravagant, and there will likely be someone that will follow you in their congratulating the married couple for their 50th wedding anniversary.

QUESTION:
What is the best entertainment for a 50th wedding anniversary party?
I am having a 50th wedding anniversary party for my parents at my home and i would like to know what is the best type of entertaiment i could look into… HELP.
ALSO,
My house is big enough to accomedate 50 people but they would have to be seated in different rooms… would you recommend a tent or in the house?
THANKS!-
ANSWER:
We threw my dad a 1970s 70th birthday party at my sister’s house. She has tons of “public” space in her house but not all on the same floor, so the guests were spread out.- One room was set up for the kids to play in.
- the bar room was, of course, where the bar was
- the dinning room was for the main food
- the living room, den, and deck were for just hanging out.
To tie everything together we had all the TVs playing the 70s music channel on cable

QUESTION:
What color should i use for a 50th wedding anniversary party?
We are throwing a 50th wedding anniversary surprise party. I was going to use gold, white, and black but i want another accent color what color should I use?-
ANSWER:
lavender. or violet. those go well with the other colors.may i just say this? does it have to be a surprise? for older people this may not be a good idea. i feel they should know they are getting this party as soon as possible. i have been part of planning more than a few of these, and, i have learned that older people want to be able to tell their friends about the impending party,, they want to be able to ‘brag’ that their kids, and family are planning this party for them, they want to be able to look forward to it, just as if they were getting married again, and, especially, they want to look their best. older people dont just go to the closet and throw on a dress and look great. it took my own mom a long while to find just the right suit, have it altered, get her hair just right, it took some weeks, and she looked great. but she would have just been dismayed at a surprise, because she would not have been able to prepare herself properly.
this is just my own experience with this.

QUESTION:
How to make a toast at a 50th wedding anniversary?
I am the oldest of 23 grandchildren, and this weekend is my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary as well as a family reunion. Being the first-born grandchild, I feel obligated to make a toast to my grandparents and congratulate them. I’m not sure what to say though! I love my grandparents to death and they are awesome, but I’m not sure what more I can say other than “congrats.”Help?
-
ANSWER:
I feel your pain. I got some ideas from this site- http://quotations.about.com/od/weddingtoasts/a/wedding22.htmalso, http://www.buzzle.com/articles/50th-anniversary-toasts.html
The biggest thing is to just keep it from the heart. Your grandparents might not appreciate teasing or a humorous toast as much as your friends (but then again, I dont know your grandparents, maybe they would). You have two people here who committed, half a century ago, to spend the rest of their lives together. In this day and age where the divorce rate is greater than 50%, thats becoming more and more rare. Just being in the presence of that kind of love should be inspiring to younger couples.
Warm, heartfelt stories about the happy couple are also great to add in there- a short story about when you were younger and they did something cute that made you realize they were in love. Something like that. Just tell them what they mean to you. Best of luck!

ANSWER:
Hi, I’m from Mexico. I know a song about love after years.. it’s called “Como han pasado los años”I don’t know if they have heard it.. but if you could only read the lyrics you will love it.. I think it’s perfect for this occasion..
LYRICS:
TRASLATE
How the years passed
How things changed
And we are here side by side
Like two lovers
Like the first time. How the years passed
What a different world
And we are here face to face
Like two teenagers
that look each other without talking. If it seems that it was last night
when we danced hugged
and we sworn an ‘I love you’
when we gave ourselves up completely
and secretly we muttered
‘Nothing will separate us”How the years passed
The life went around
Our love kept on growing
and it wrapped us.The years may have passed but
the time hasn’t finished
our love.VIDEO:

QUESTION:
Creating a Video Montage for a 50th Wedding Anniversary?
I’m planning a party for my parents who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. I’ve got a bunch of photographs from over the years but I don’t know how to create a video montage. I’d also like to have music accompanying the video. Any suggestions on how I can get started?
Thanks in advance!-
ANSWER:
Windows movie maker has a pretty good format for making a video. You should have it on any Windows or Vista operating system. You’ll need to scan the photos onto your computer, and then copy them into the movie maker and drag them in whatever order you like into the storyboard at the bottom. Then you can add different transitions between each picture- fade is especially effective when transitioning from “young” to “older” photos! You can find songs on youtube and can put them into the storyboard and adjust the timing so the songs and pictures will end at the same time, and fade to black….it’s very effective and everyone cries! Good luck!

QUESTION:
How to through an affordable unforgettable 50th wedding Anniversary Party?
I need to know how to plan a momentous 50th wedding anniversary on a tight budget any creative ideas-
ANSWER:
We just threw one. It was great. Pasta is an inexpensive main course, but we asked some friends to drop off dishes at the hall to help us with the food. For decor-clear glass cups and jars were placed down the center of tables with tealight candles in them. And for favors-you can make chocolates and put them in boxes with old black and white pictures of the couple. We just taped 2″ pictures to the outside of the boxes.

QUESTION:
How can I save for my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary?
My parent’s have 8 children and I need a suggestion on how all of us can start saving for our parent’s 50th wedding annversary party. They just celebrated their 45th anniversary, so we have 5 years to save. I want to set something up so everyone can contribute or a month, so it won’t be a hardship and everyone can feel like they have contributed. If you multiply that times 8 children and 5 years, we should have a good chunk of money for the party. What’s the best way to save and collect this money without calling everyone every month to ask for money?-
ANSWER:
Good idea to start planning now. Even a month, times 8 kids, times 60 months in five years, would give you 00 – you should be able to throw a very nice party, with probably quite a bit left over for a gift for them, on that. How to do it depends on how reliable those 8 siblings are. Could you appoint one person, and have everyone send them every quarter and stash it in a bank accout?

ANSWER:
50th Anniversary Wedding Speech *Free Sample
Use it. It’s free!
First, I want to thank all of you so much for coming. I can’t begin to describe how much it means to Reginald and me that you are here with us to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.Reggie, for fifty years we have been married. What was I thinking?! I’m kidding, of course. I still remember that day fifty years ago when you became my husband. It was raining out, but you were sure to hold an umbrella over my heard so that not a single raindrop touched my head.
It was a beautiful ceremony. I can remember looking into your eyes as we recited our vows. It was at that moment I knew that my life was finally complete.
Reggie, you’ve been a huge inspiration to me throughout our marriage. Even when times were band, you always stayed positive. When Emily was born and had to stay in the intensive care unit for several months, you always tried to stay positive for me. It if wasn’t for you, I would have completely fallen apart those months.
You’ve inspired me to be a hard worker. After the twins came and I had to work loses to take care of them, you picked up a second job so that we would have enough money to get by. I don’t know how you did it those days when you had to wake up at five in the morning and didn’t drag yourself back into the house until ten o’clock that night. You were exhausted, but never failed to give me a kiss, and talk with me about my dya. Sometimes you would fall asleep while I was talking, but I knew you would hear me so I could continue to talk to you.
It is those days that I think about when I contemplate giving up. When I think about stopping work, when the car breaks down, when life throws me a curve ball, I think about those nights when you would drag your tired body into the house but never cared about yourself, and instead turned the focus and your attention on me and my day.
Reggie, you have made my life simply wonderful. I want you to know how happy you have made me, but words cannot describe it. You’ve brightened by life in large ways and small. Having you wake up next to me for the past fifty years, knowing that you’re there for me through thick and thin has made life worth living.
It is because of these reasons that I would like to give you a gift. It’s a picture of us fifty years ago and one of us today, with a quote weaving between them. The photos illustrate how our love has grown and lasted, and the quote vocalizes the many years of love we have yet to come.
Thank you so much for marrying me on this day fifty years ago.

QUESTION:
Who typically pays for a 50th wedding anniversary party? The couple or their children?
My siblings and I wanted to throw a simple open house with cake and punch for my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. They didn’t like this idea, and they want to have a sit down dinner? Who is expected to pay for this?-
ANSWER:
Depends upon who can afford it, I guess. But in general, I would say whoever is planning it. If you and your siblings wanted to do something simple, and your parents want something more elegant, I think you should contribute to the party, but I don’t think it is fair for you to get stuck with the entire bill. Unless, of course, you can do it for a fairly comparable price. That might be possible, too, if you have the dinner at someone’s home.

QUESTION:
Any help with writing a 50th Wedding Anniversary toast?
I have to write a toast for my Grandparent’s 50th Wedding Anniversary party. Any tips on what I should include? It’s my Mother’s Parent’s and I have grown up around them my whole life…-
ANSWER:
I’d start with an inspirational quote like any of the following:http://quotations.about.com/od/weddingtoasts/a/wedding22.htm
Next, I would relate that quote to your own grandparents and share a memory or two of their marriage from your childhood. Talk about how wonderful it is to see them still in love after so many years (eg: if they still walk hand-in-hand …) and how you would be fortunate to have a relationship like theirs. You don’t have to (nor shouldn’t) babble on forever here … just be honest and you should do just fine.

QUESTION:
How can I style my hair for my Grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary Wedding?
I’m the bridesmaid in my fiancee grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary Wedding. They are having it on a Sunday at 11:00 and most Salons don’t open until 10:00 or later on that day. So I need a few ideas for hairstyles that I can do on my own. I’ve never had to do my hair for wedding I can regularly but not for special occasion.
My hair is mid back.-
ANSWER:
well, what does really look nice is if you can get your hair into a side bun (using a dubbl;ed up bobble) then buying a large flower clip and possitioning it behind the ear (this also covers up the booble and any bits of hair sticking uplike this picture but only more to the side to make it look better in the pictures;
http://www.hairstylesdiary.com/images/chignon-wedding.jpg
if your hair is shot you can have it in waves and clip it to one side of your head
http://www.handbag.com/?module=images&func=display&fileId=65283
another easy idea is to curl your hair and put it in a side ponytail, possibly with a flower clip covering the bobble again

QUESTION:
50th wedding anniversary gifts ideas?
It is my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary. Parents are throwing them a party & restoring old photos & my sister is making an album of the anniversary party. What can I do that is as personal as the other gifts?-
ANSWER:
At my grandparent’s 50th anniversary party about five years ago, the grandchildren all got together and made a nice scrapbook with photos of the family. Each family member had a page to write a story or favorite memory, or draw a picture or write a poem – whatever they wanted. Then we got the book bound and gave it to them at the party. They really loved it and still keep it on their coffee table to proudly show off when they have company over. We also had a slideshow made with old and new family photos and some appropriate music that was played during the party.

QUESTION:
What do you say in a 50th wedding anniversary speech?
It’s for my super amazing grandparents.
I don’t know what to talk about thought.
Any advice would be appreciated.Thanks.
-
ANSWER:
Think of a way they have both touched your life or helped you out and put that down. It could be something from early childhood even. It’s a way to give a great tribute to their parenting and make it really specific. Make it something they will remember. Something that shows you were paying attention to something they said. They will love that.I’m already crying as I imagine you speaking!

QUESTION:
What to wear to a 50th wedding Anniversary party?
Ok the party is for my guys grandparents. This is a semi-formal party not suites, tie, and elegant dresses. More like slacks and button up shirts. Me im at a loss as to what to wear i dont know if a dress or black pants and a nice dressy shirt would work. If you have any suggestions PLLLLEASE HELP its this saturday and we leave tomorrow!!!-
ANSWER:
I would definitely suggest you wear a dress – if it’s a semi-formal event, a dress is appropriate. Go with a knee or tea length dress – nothing super fancy, but nice.I went to my boyfriend’s grandparent’s 50th anniversary vow renewal in January, and wore a knee-length dress. I was a little more dressed up than his cousins, who wore sweaters and leggings, but I KNOW I made a good impression on his family (they told me, and my boyfriend after I had left, how nice I had looked and how wonderful I am … love his fam =]), and that should be important. Show them you’re a nice, respectful girl.

Anyone have ideas for a good Luau party for a 50th wedding anniversary?
need some ideas as far what type of alcoholic drinks to make and some food choices…-
ANSWER:
I went to a Luau in Hawaii a couple of years ago. Really, it is just a big buffet with lots of fruity vodka drinks. The main thing you go for is the entertainment. So, I think to have a good luau, be sure and book quality entertainers. My kids remember the fire twirler guy the most and dancers were awesome.

QUESTION:
What are some good ideas for 50th wedding anniversary centerpieces?
Other than flowers, balloons, and tissue paper centerpieces.-
ANSWER:
What about a plant in a nice pot/basket. You can get those card holders (like the ones at florists) and have pictures of the couple, children and grandchildren one them…..Or you can pick a theme that represents what they enjoy doing as a couple (like golf, traveling, reading etc). I was at a 60th wedding anniversary party recently. The couple are avid readers, each table was set up with a different “book” as it’s theme. We sat at the “Gone With The Wind” table, the “Da Vinci Code” table was next to us. Each table had decorations to go with the book, but it also had the book as part of the decorations. After the party all the books were donated to the public library in the couples name….I thought it was GREAT!
