Alicia Augello Cook , better known by her stage name Alicia Keys, is an American recording artist, musician and actress. She was raised by a single mother in the Hell’s Kitchen area of Manhattan in New York City. At age seven, Keys began to play classical music on the piano. She attended Professional Performing Arts School and graduated at 16 as valedictorian.

She later attended Columbia University before dropping out to pursue her music career. Keys released her debut album with J Records, having had previous record deals first with Columbia and then Arista Records.

Keys’ debut album, Songs in A Minor, was a commercial success, selling over 12 million copies worldwide. She became the best-selling new artist and best-selling R&B artist of 2001. The album earned Keys five Grammy Awards in 2002, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for “Fallin’”.

Her second studio album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, was released in 2003 and was also another success worldwide, selling eight million copies. The album garnered her an additional four Grammy Awards in 2005. Later that year, she released her first live album, Unplugged, which debuted at number one in the United States. She became the first female to have an MTV Unplugged album to debut at number one and the highest since Nirvana in 1994.

Keys made guest appearances on several television series in the following years, beginning with Charmed. She made her film debut in Smokin’ Aces and went on to appear in The Nanny Diaries in 2007. Her third studio album, As I Am, was released in the same year and sold six million copies worldwide, earning Keys an additional three Grammy Awards.

The following year, she appeared in The Secret Life of Bees, which earned her a nomination at the NAACP Image Awards. She released her fourth album, The Element of Freedom, in December 2009, which became Keys’ first chart-topping album in the United Kingdom.

Throughout her career, Keys has won numerous awards and has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Billboard magazine named her the top R&B artist of the 2000/2009 decade, establishing herself as one of the best-selling artists of her time. In 2010, VH1 included Keys on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

The following month, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers honored Keys with the Golden Note Award, an award given to artists “who have achieved extraordinary career milestones”. She collaborated with Spanish recording artist Alejandro Sanz for “Looking for Paradise”, which topped the Hot Latin Songs chart.[99] Keys released her fourth studio album, The Element of Freedom, in December 2009.It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 417,000 copies in its first week.

As part of the promotional drive for the album, she performed at the Cayman Island Jazz Festival on December 5, the final night of the three day festival which will be broadcast on Black Entertainment Television (BET). The album’s lead single, “Doesn’t Mean Anything”, has peaked at number 60 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Keys was ranked as the top R&B recording artist of the 2000/2009 decade by Billboard magazine and ranked at number five as artist of the decade, while her song, “No One”, was ranked at number six on the magazine’s songs of the decade.In the United Kingdom, The Element of Freedom became Keys’ first album to top the UK Albums Chart.

In May 2010, a representative for Keys and Swizz Beatz confirmed that they were engaged and expecting a child together.During the time of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the couple took part of a union and had the unborn child blessed in a Zulu ceremony, which took place in the Illovo suburb of South Africa.Keys and Swizz Beatz held a wedding celebration on the French island of Corsica on July 31, 2010. Keys gave birth to a son, Egypt Daoud Dean, on October 14, 2010 in New York City.

  That is a great song.. I would play whatever makes you and your new hubby feel great!! I picked a song that wasn’t nececarilly a wedding song, but it was our song. It meant more to us than anything!!! Also another great idea that my DJ came up with on his own was after the ceremony he gave us a CD with all of our requested songs i.e.: 1st dance, father daughter dance, entrance song, mother son dance… It was a great suprise but I can’t wait to replay it on our year anniversery!!! I’m looking into first songs for my friend and she wants something “different.” To get me on track, she told me she’s considering beyonce’s “halo,” but she’s open to all genres.
I first looked into songs with a nice heavy beat, and i only came up with alicia keys’ “no one” and ub40′s “can’t help falling in love.”
Any other suggestions?
I also looked into some alternative, rock or old school music (plus some personal favorites), and arrived at ‘iris’ by goo goo dolls, ‘you’re my best friend’ by queen, and “little wonders” by rob thomas.
80s power ballads are nice but nothing too cheesy, a la “You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago.

Inspired by the drama that went down with Mashonda, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats. Mashonda’s pretty much maintained from day one that things between her and Swizz were fine until Alicia came along. I can’t really disagree with that, considering I don’t know what went down, but how true can it be if he strayed (just playing devil’s advocate here lol)? What do you think? Do you have to be dissatisfied and unhappy to cheat? Or are there people out there who, despite having something great and solid going on, still want more?

  Lets just be real for a moment….yes, it is possible – I mean, look at Alicia? she is beautiful, talented and happens to be in the same industry as Swizz. It is very possible that things were good at home, but time spent away due to business- with this woman- put things on a different track. He, as a husband should have left temptation alone, but he was obviously weak and gave in.

There was this foreign exchange student from Nigeria in my English lecture last year. The moment I walked into the class, his head was tilted down and he was giving me the sex look from across the room…the entire class! I couldn’t look in that direction. He continually did this. It continually weirded me out. I felt bad one day though when he was getting lunch and asked if I could eat with him. So I did. He kept telling me I looked like Alicia Keys and that I was so beautiful and made a couple comments that I should go back to Africa with him. I’m not into guys. I simply changed the subject each time in a polite manner. He walked me out and wanted to me to show him my dorm, so I walked through the halls and was like “k, I gotta go”. I belive he may have been trying to ask me for a kiss at the end, I’m not sure, but I was like backing into my room and closing the door. :/

In class, he’s trying to wave at me and get my attention. He’s sitting with his back to me at some point and continually turns around and flashes a lusty smile. He catches me grabbing lunch another day and sits with me. I make it clear to him that I only see him as a friend. That is it. We play a bit of ping pong and he’s again hitting on me. He grabs the ball at one point, stops to stare at me, and reaches around his pockets saying he can’t believe he didn’t bring his camera. I’m like “ok…” He tells me I’m hotter than some girl he found hot in a movie and says “You. Are. So. Hot!” Thanks dude…He says “If I built a kingdom, guess who would be my queen?” maybe 3 different times and each time I guessed some other random girl…he would say “Nooo ;D guess again” He said many many times that he wanted us to go back to his room and get drunk or to go back to his room to just watch a movie. He asked over and over what kinds of movies I liked. I always changed the subject. I reminded him again I only saw him as a friend. He said he wanted us to go to Vegas and get drunk, then we’d wake up in the morning with a wedding ring on our fingers. I said that wouldn’t happen cause I don’t do dumb things like that.

I said I was going to have to leave to do my laundry and he stops and says he wants to get me an ice cream or starbucks or something. I walk over to starbucks with him because it’s only a minute or two away. His favorite color was red. On the way, he asks if I have a red dress and high heels. He tries walking closer to me and I keep walking sideways to keep my distance. The music in starbucks is romantic and I was so uncomfortable, he kept trying to move in closer to me. On the way back, he pulls out of his backpack a camera. (He had forgotten last time and remembered to bring it this time) He asks if he could snap a picture of me. I don’t much like having pictures taken so I said no. He started begging and said “please, why not? please I beg of you…I’ll get down on my knees. Please please please” He then got down on his knee and crossed his hands and was like “please let me get a picture of you!” I kept walking and said something about how I thought that was weird (sorry, came out involuntarily) He ran up to me and said that no, people would think he was proposing and that he was being romantic. He asked if he could come in and finish his drink and I said that he could but I would be in my room doing my laundry. I avoided him from then on.

QUESTION:
Music for the ceremony, what should I do?
I’m having a small, garden style ceremony with about 40 attendees.
So my original plan for music during the ceremony was to have a CD player set up to play the songs we wanted with my personal attendant manning it. I’ve recently been thinking though, that it would be so much more elegant to hire a musician so I’ve found a guitar player willing to learn our songs and play for us (for fairly cheap too 0–0).

My biggest problem is that I wanted my grandpa (professional piano player for 60+ years) to record the song I’m walking with him down the aisle to (“If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys). The guitarist said that he could run the cd player through his amp, but it’s still going to sound like a recording (obviously). I also think it would be a bit weird to switch from live music to recorded music to live music.

So, do I:
1. Forget my dream of having my grandpa playing and singing my wedding song and just hire the guitarist
2. Just stay with prerecorded music and enjoy it flaws and all
3. Mix the two so I can have both things I want even if it’s a bit weird
4. Find a different solution altogether, completely open to suggestions!!

My grandpa is also poor in health so I don’t want to really push him too hard either.
Oh, and I just wanted to mention that we can’t do the Alicia Key’s song as our first dance since we compromised and we’re doing a different song then (“When I’m 64″ by the Beatles)
Katie, you’re spot on. I guess I can always have Alicia Key’s played at the reception just not for a first dance. Heck, maybe it could even be dinner music since it’s slow.

  Have your grandpa record some stuff for the reception. I’m having a small garden ceremony too, and my little brother is playing Canon in D on the mandolin or guitar haven’t decided yet. I don’t think you’ll be pleased with the recording, its so artificial sounding and youre getting married in a garden so you want things natural.

I need some help with songs for my reception?

Now my problem is this…. I want to be able to dance at the reception and of course most of my friends and family will too. My soon to be in-laws are extremely old school and I am trying to be respectful to them. I need to find music that has no suggestion to sex… etc. I think that I find one and then one word is ruling it out. I may be able to go in an edit some of the songs but I wanted to see what others could think of. I plan on having all types of music at the wedding however we prefer R&B. I listen mostly to the Christian R&B but wanted to add other things in the mix…that people are used to hearing and love. My soon to be father in law is a pastor and we have invited many of his friends and colleagues.

there was this guy. he was my best friend. i could talk to him about any and everything.i soon figured out i like him as more then a friend. shortley after this we started datin, but our relationship was weird cuase we barley saw each other ( it was the summer ect) wed talk ont eh phone for like forever and a day. we were in love but i love was ceased when we found out i had to move. i really love him and almost a year later we still talk on the phone & still tell each other we love them. i dont know what my world would be like without him.i trust him with all my heart and he has never betrayed me & hes always been there wheather i needed him or not. * i had a dream once, that he was in the hospital, his mother called me and told me. by the time i got all the way from louisiana to texas he had not made it. every time i hear alicia keys like youll never see me again, i think about him. what if the next time i see him is the last time.
