Wedding Reception Jokes – How to Use Them If You Are a Wedding MC

Saturday, October 29th, 2011

Wedding reception jokes are among the things that can add color and fun to a wedding reception. Especially if you are the master of ceremonies, delivering good jokes is one thing that you can do to make the guests at ease and to make the celebration fun and exciting even from the start.

Wedding receptions should not be some stiff and boring celebration and set of rituals and wedding speeches. As wedding emcee, you can actually make it fun for both the newlyweds and the guests.

If you are thinking about cracking some jokes on the wedding reception, there are also important points that you need to take into consideration, as weddings are also sensitive celebrations that you would not want to spoil. Of course, you don’t want to spoil the celebration by insulting or putting the groom or the bride in an embarrassing situation. Wedding etiquette should always be observed – in wedding speeches especially when it comes to wedding reception jokes.

If you are tasked to become the wedding MC or master of ceremonies, it is important to consider wedding etiquette always. Keep in mind that weddings are not the place to make lengthy stories. For sure, you don’t want to take away the focus from the bride and groom. Make your jokes short and witty. One liners are often best as wedding reception jokes. Jokes about marriage in general can also be a good one.

As wedding reception emcee, successfully cracking a good joke at the start of the celebration allows you to make the guests at ease and break the stiffness of the celebration. If you want a fun and exciting reception, you have to make a good start as well. A good joke will also help you overcome some nerves at the start of your wedding reception hosting task.

Keep in mind that a wedding MC is not just there to introduce and keep the flow of the program. You have to be an entertainer at the same time. In fact, you can have a collection of one liners and wedding jokes at hand to make the celebration a fun one. However, make sure that your jokes and punch lines sounds natural and conversational. Do not just read them off your list. Master it beforehand and make sure it serves the purpose you want it to be.

Delivery is very important as well. You have to practice to deliver the joke if you want to make it effective. Make sure also that your wedding reception jokes are appropriate and suited to the audience. Of course, it helps to have tasteful and funny jokes.

Be sure as well to avoid pulling off a joke that may embarrass, offend, or insult either the groom or the bride and even their families. It may be helpful to know a little bit of the background of the newlyweds so you will know what topics or joke subjects you would not want to bring up during the reception that may put them in an embarrassing situation.

Wedding Planning Book

Destination

Decide on your ultimate wedding destination and have a concrete idea about where you would like to tie the knot. It is impossible to plan further without having a clear idea of the exact country location.

Legal Issues

Once you have selected a location, it is important make sure you have a good understanding of all the legalities associated with getting married in that particular country. You don’t want to be stuck with legal documentation issues once you have booked your wedding.

Visa Requirements

Make sure you have complete information and details regarding Visa requirements and documentation. This 00004000 is important for both you and your partner in your chosen location, as well as ensuring that guests are able to obtain visas and therefore attend your wedding. Check this out before you book and pay for your wedding. Consult your guests as well as far as possible.

Budget

Ensure that you have come up with an accurate budget, including accommodation costs, air fares and other fees. It is vital that you also have this conversation with your guests and come to an agreement about who is paying for what, or in other words, what you are going to cover and what they are willing to pay for themselves. Try and do this in advance to give guests time to budget for the trip abroad and plan for leave, flights and accommodation.

Make the Booking

Once you have sorted out the logistics, guest number and budget details, aim to book your wedding abroad as soon as possible. The earlier you book, the better deals you will be able to find and the better prepared you will be on the big day, as you will have left yourself enough time to plan and liaise with your wedding coordinator and venue staff.

Sit Back, Relax and Enjoy

All the pre-planning and organisation will be well-worth it when the wedding date comes around. It will mean you can truly relax while your big day takes place in your dream location, and after all, isn’t that what a wedding abroad is all about in any case?

    • ANSWER:

You can keep all your wedding contracts and receips in their also so you will be organized! Also, Its a good place to keep your guest list and registry stuff, It has really helped me to have it! congrats and good luck!

  4. QUESTION:
I need help finding the best wedding planning book?
I’m looking for a recommendation from someone who has used a wedding planning book that they LOVED. I am getting married in about 1.5 – 2 years, and I want to use the perfect wedding planning book. Possibly something geared toward average-sized weddings in small towns.

    Thank you!
Also, I want this to be a book that I can write in, save receipts, etc. A hands-on, organizational book. Not just a book on tips.

    • ANSWER:
The Ultimate Wedding Planner & Organizer (Ring-bound)
      by Elizabeth Lluch

^^Thats what i used. It was a binder with pocketed tabs. I bought it “used” on Amazon, even though it was new. Then i went to Office Max and bought a whole bunch of zippered pouches, clear sleeves, clear business card sleeves and photo album pages (all with the 3-holes punched in). After I added to it, it was the perfect organizer.

  5. QUESTION:
Brides- What wedding planning book/organizer did you find the most helpful?
I am planning my wedding for next September
P.S. I am on a strict budget of 00 for everything!

    • ANSWER:
If you are on a strict budget and have ,000 for everything, I would seriously recommend a wedding planner. They have been thru this several times, know which vendors will do the best job for the money and will keep you on tract so you don’t have to worry about anything. Use some of that money for you by hiring someone to do your worrying for you! A good wedding planner will be able to save you the money you paid for their services by doing their job. Check references – and I mean check them – ask for contact names and numbers and call brides she has worked with in the past. Make sure there is a good chemistry between the two of you and tell her all your wedding dreams. Be smart.

If you insist on doing it yourself, go to the bookstore and look thru wedding planners. Everyone is very different – some people want step by step details and other people just want general basics. You’re going to have to spend a few hours looking thru all of your options. And be sure to check out Martha Stewart’s – it may or may not be at your local bookstore.

  6. QUESTION:
What is the most comprehensive wedding planning book?
I need to know so I can get it. Also, what makes it the best?

    • ANSWER:
I have a book called “the ultimate wedding planning guide” I found it at Barnes and Noble and it is wonderful. It keeps me organized, has checklists, tells me when to have things done by, tips on how to save money for the wedding, style ideas, and even places to compare vendors. Its like having a wedding planner but not paying for one. I love it. I looked through about a dozen planning books and this one has everything. Hope this helps. :0)

  10. QUESTION:
    wedding planning book?
does anyone know a good wedding planning book for 16 year olds who just really want to plan their dream wedding? i’m not actually getting married obviously, but i’ve been thinking about it since i was five and i want it to be organized!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
Hi. Your question is a good one. I am organized too so I can appreciate that you are already thinking ahead! You should, however, not be looking at wedding planning books. You need to focus on high school. You should be looking at college catalogs and fun girl stuff. Don’t focus on a wedding at such a young age. By the time you do get married, many things will have changed. Possibly what you think is your “dream wedding” will not be that when you are engaged. Once you are engaged there is plenty of time to plan. Enjoy your teen years and your college years!

  11. QUESTION:
What is the BEST Wedding planning book?
I am looking into purchasing a Wedding Planner. But there are SO many! If anyone has had experience with any certain one, or can just recommend one for me, that’d be great. Links are appreciated as well (preferably to the certain one on amazon.com)

    • ANSWER:
I have three suggestions, that I’ve personally used before. (as a maid of honour each time) I liked them all, they each offered their own pros and cons.

      http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Wedding-Organizer-Checklists-Worksheets/dp/1593376405/ref=pd_sim_b_42

      http://www.amazon.com/Bridal-Bargains-Wedding-Planner-Planning/dp/1889392308/ref=pd_sim_b_2

      http://www.amazon.com/Wedding-Small-Budget-Planner-Organizer/dp/0898795303/ref=sr_1_52?s=STORE&ie=UTF8&qid=1281751017&sr=1-52

Each of them proved to be really useful in keeping track of things and keeping things on budget, and on time.

  12. QUESTION:
    Wedding Planning Book?
I am planning my wedding – what books have people used and do you recommend them? Any great ones??

    • ANSWER:
I’m a wedding coordinator, but I like “The Everything Wedding Organizer” . I also like “The Everything Wedding Checklist”. You can find them at a Barnes & Noble

They also make one for outdoor weddings, weddings on a budget, and books for specific members of the bridal party respectively.

  13. QUESTION:
    Wedding Planning Book Needed?
Does anyone know the best wedding planning book out there and maybe a link to it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea where to begin!!

    • ANSWER:
There’s an entire section of wedding planning books at Barnes & Noble that you can check out– that way you can browse through all of them and see which one suits you best! Plus you don’t have to pay shipping!

  14. QUESTION:
What are some really good wedding planning books?
I’m having a really big wedding and need to start reading in on the wedding planning experience. And can you give me the approximate price of the book that you suggest? Thanks! :)

    • ANSWER:
I use a lot of books and ebooks. My very favorite is Erica Yoon’s Amazing Wedding Planning. It’s complete and goes through a lot of planning ideas as well as money saving ideas.

Second would be the Knot’s Ultimate Wedding Planner. It has a lot of checklists so you can get the big picture up front and then go into the details.

  15. QUESTION:
Do I need to buy a wedding planning book or can I do it all online?
If I should buy a book as well, which book should I buy?

    • ANSWER:
i wouldn’t waste the money on a book! that was the first thing that all of my newly married friends told me when i first got engaged! no reason to! if you don’t do it online, then find a wedding magazine that comes with the wedding planning/timeline insert, there always seems to be one of those in some wedding magazine!

      best of luck and congrats!

  16. QUESTION:
i’m in need of a good wedding planning book?
I’m looking for a book that has a checklist of everything that needs to be done to plan a wedding as well as timeframes as to when these things need to be finished for a stress free wedding. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:

I’m in the very early stages of planning our wedding but I have no idea where to even start. Does anyone know of a good reference, book, or website? Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
theknot.com is a really great website, but there are a LOT of really great websites out there. The thing that helped me the most was going to bridal shows in my area and organizing all the information in a big binder. Then I knew that all my stuff came from local vendors!! I also found it helpful to join an online community of people who were also planning weddings at the time (none of my friends are married and I’m the oldest, so I’ve never had any kind of experience with it) – usually you’ll find them at wedding websites or on journal websites like livejournal or opendiary.

      Good luck!!

  22. QUESTION:
I am looking for a wedding planning book to buy? Any suggestions of a good one?

    • ANSWER:
I know a planning book called: The Ultimate Wedding Planning Kit by Wedding Experts Elizabeth & Alex Lluch, Founder of WeddingSolutions.com. I have it, and it is pretty good. Hope that helped!

  23. QUESTION:
Wedding Planning book…. what do you think?
Ok so i know this is a long shot, BUT…… i have to tell you the whole story.

Ok so i am currently planning my wedding, and well my partner and i are working our bums off and no matter how much we try to save money on our wedding costs its just not working, so i have found other ways to make the wedding more affordable.
eg online!! i have found ebay.com and ebay.com.au GREAT!! online honeymoon travel and also online sites for weddng dresses.
so far the costs for our wedding have skyrocket-ed for our reception and ceremoney but we cut costs on everything else, decorations etc.

I am wanting to make a book on wedding planning the cheap way, well not cheap and nasty way but cheaper way.
If you are planning your own wedding and wanted help and well didnt want to spend a fortune but still wanted the wedding of your dreams would you buy something like that?

If you have thought of this or think its a good idea id love your comments?
Or if you have had your wedding and wish there was a book like this out there comments please!!!

    thanks in advanced
opps, geez sorry about the few spelling mistakes, it was a very fast typing mode.

    • ANSWER:
no. i looked at a few books like low cost wedding or something like that. but i didn’t want to read a book. i did a few searches on line. and with a diy wedding it is cheaper anyway.

my mom did get a mother of the bride book, that she read and helped her out.

  24. QUESTION:
Which wedding planning book/mag is a must for a scared newbie?
    Hi Yahooers,

My guy is starting to speak details on the Big Step and seems ready to propose shortly. I am creative but have no clue where to start; I am not one of those women who has been planning my wedding since I was 12 (no offense lol).

But, this is the situation- my fam is small and mainly in the South, his family is huge, as in Dugger huge, and they’re in Virginia.

I want it to be classy and romantic but we can’t afford some tens of thousands of dollars wedding. I don’t want to go “cheap” either w folding chairs. An in between, you know?

I’m thinking Vegas. Not cheesy, but we love Vegas.

Around to my question- what book and/or magazine did you get that really cut to the chase and helped you plan practically? I don’t want a wedding planner. And don’t hold back girls, I want the one that you wrinkled and found really really handy.

    Thanks so much!!!

PS I already know about The Knot :)
BTW I do see a church or traditional wedding. Nothing like Elvis or Michael officiating. Thanx!

    • ANSWER:
I know you already know about the knot, but honestly, that was my lifesaver! I don’t think I could have planned my wedding the way I wanted with out it.

Another thing I found useful was Brides Magazine. All the bridal mags are mostly ads, but Brides seemed to have more helpful content than the rest.

Another site that helped me with DIY stuff was cheapchicweddings.com

I used weddingwire.com to help pick out songs

Something else you should do, is get on the mailing list for Nevada/Las Vegas brides. Most states have a bridal magazine that is very helpful for finding the best local vendors.

I bought a notebook and that became my planning bible. I cut out pictures and pasted them in there, hairstyles, cakes, dresses, I wrote all of my ideas down in there, all of my vendor contact info, everything. You name it, the info I needed was put in it. My husband got so sick of seeing me carry it around that he would start telling me not to bring it places because he said I didn’t need it where we were going, but you never know when an idea will hit you, so I carried it everywhere! It was a diary sized notebook, so it fit in my purse.

  25. QUESTION:
What is the most useful wedding (planning) books?
What do you find the most useful wedding book?
My fav is The DIY Wedding: Celebrate Your Day Your Way by Kelly Bare, what about yours?

    • ANSWER:
I’m a big fan of The DIY Bride: 40 Fun Projects for Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding by Khris Cochran. It has some excellent information in it, and you can find it at Amazon.

Also, if you’re looking for something new and fun, Susan Southerland, a wedding planner from the Central Florida area, has a great wedding planning DVD that provides great tips for planning your wedding: http://www.perfectweddingguide.com/dvd.

You can search for the DIY book as well as the DVD (and other wedding planning books) at Amazon (but I bet you already knew that!) ;)

      Happy Planning!

  26. QUESTION:
What it the best wedding planning workbook/guide?
I just got engaged and I’m getting married in October. I will be planning the wedding by myself. I have no idea what I’m doing and was wondering if anyone could tell me a good wedding planning book/guide that would be suitable for someone like me. Thank you very much!

    • ANSWER:
The Knot’s site helped me plan my wedding.

There are lots of wedding planning books available on Amazon – check the reviews to see which one will suit your needs.

Don’t let the planning stress you out – this is supposed to be a happy time. Just keep yourself organized (I kept a notebook with me at all times) and remember that it’s only a party. It’s not worth going crazy over.

  27. QUESTION:
Where can I get wedding planning books?
Where can I order wedding planning books like the kind to be a wedding planner? Not too expensive though and maybe they come with a movie or something but ones that have good training in them.

  28. QUESTION:
    Best wedding planning book?
I am looking for a wedding organizer book. I would like one that is 3 ring bound so that I can organize it well. Any advice?

    • ANSWER:
You honestly don’t need to spend money on a book. I have been given three different planning books as engagement gifts from friends and besides flipping through them once, I don’t use them. You don’t need to spend money on something like that when so much stuff is free and then you can just put in it a binder with three-whole page protectors to store contracts/stuff from venues/vendors.

I have accounts at theknot.com and Weddingbells.ca and I don’t even use them! I have everything in an excel spread sheet because then I can customize it to the way I like. I used the lists and budgets from free online site (Martha Stewart Weddings has one too) and transfered what i needed to Excel, a I have a worksheet for each item with my overall budget being first (a page for favour costs, invitation budget, venue/catering, etc). Then I just printed it out to store in a folder.

Just be sure your binder has pockets or you have a folder assigned for the wedding because you get a lot of stuff/contracts from vendors that you need to organize and can’t necessarily punch holes in.

      Good Luck!

  29. QUESTION:
If you were making a friend a wedding planning book(3 ring binder) what would you put in it?
Topics i have covered: timeline/table, hiring a consultant, invitations, stationary, printers, where they are registered, ceramony site, ceramony schedule, ceremony music, the officiant, the rehersal, the rehersal party, choosing a gown for the bride, the bridesmaids and any other attendants, grooms renting/buying info, groomsmes renting/buying info, the reception site, setting up the reception site, reception time schedule, seating plan, choosing a florist, the flower order (for everyone and everywhere), reception music, reception music schedule, choosing a baker, choosing a caterer, transportation, photographer, photography schedule, gift records, honeymoon info, and how to change your name after you get married

i realize this is alot of info for the bride but this book is suppose to be the “anything and everything” book for her wedding
this book isnt just information, its worksheets to fill out along with info and tips,

    • ANSWER:
sounds great – don’t forget to include folders where she can keep receipts, notes, things she’s cut out from magazines…ect.

For myself, I used a looseleaf notebook and the folders really helped for stuff I couldn’t hole punch.

  30. QUESTION:
Can anyone suggest any good wedding planning books?
I am recently engaged and I am starting to plan my wedding but I am unable to find any really good wedding planning books… any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Ya A Brides Book i bought mine at Barnes and Nobles and its been i life saver but you may also want to buy bridal magazines if they have any cool ideas that you re thinking about using for yourself. I also use weddingchannel.com and theknot.com to help me along the way

  31. QUESTION:
Recenty engaged . . Any suggestion on wedding planning books?
I recently became engaged to the love of my life; however, I need help planning my wedding. If anyone has any suggestions for a good wedding planning book, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I bought the “Dummies Guide to Weddings.” It was the best investment that I made. It answered a lot of questions.

  32. QUESTION:
im planning my wedding and i need to find a free wedding book to plan my wedding?
i am looking for a book like state farms had a few years ago because they don’t have there’s anymore..
anyone know where i can get one? online for free
i dont think i was clear enough i want a free book mailed to me lol sorry for the miss understanding
and i use the knot.com alot thanks

    • ANSWER:
Chabela had the right idea: www.theknot.com

On theknot.com, you can not only organize all of your budgets, payments, and guest lists, but you can also find AMAZING ideas to help you plan everything from finding local vendors (reception halls, photographers, florists, officiants, etc) to a message board filled with brides from your area to talk to! They have an in depth dress search and ideas for favors. They have a “tv” sections with clips of the latest bridal fashion shows and real weddings. It truly has everything a bride could need or want. The best part about it is that it’s free!!! You just have to fill in a little information about yourself and you’re on! FREE!

  33. QUESTION:
Looking 4 wedding planning book, that will help me out plan, and I can fill in lots of info. .and had divider?
I want it to be very thorough, and pockets transparent so I can see the information I stick in there.. any one have any recommendations?

    • ANSWER:
I found the Martha Steward planner to be the best. You can get it like 1/2 off at amazon.com. It’s divided into sections and it gives you sheets you can photocopy and do work on. It also has spots for budgets, guest list and ect. I like it because it also comes with a time line to kinda give you hints when you should start doing things. It has a couple of folder in the back and it has two transparent pockets with the zip lock tops (so you don’t lose anything) and a biz card (clear) holder. If anything- this book has too much information…. like the difference between a christian and a Jewish wedding. It also gives you a guide for flower and what colors they come in. I can’t say enough good things about it- it’s saving my sanity!! Good Luck.

  34. QUESTION:
I need an opinion on the best wedding planning book. Which is the best one on the market now?
I have looked at The Brides Essential Wedding Planner – Deluxe Edition by Amy Nebens and think it is pretty thorough, but I would love a book that has everything – checklists, suggestions, pictures and in a 3 ring binder.
The Brides Essential Wedding Planner has all of the checklists, questions to ask vendors, some suggestions, but lacks some of the more in depth things like invitation wording and the more intricate details.

And I don’t want to just find everything online and print it out. I’d spend a fortune on ink. I’m looking for a planner. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
My mom bought me the Martha Stewart one, & it does have some great ideas & information, but the thing I use the most are the checklists, charts, & such. The actual binder is not very practical because it isn’t very sturdy & the top flap slides back & forth. So….I ended up making my own planner with just a regular 3-ring binder, some dividers, blank paper, & clear pockets to put pictures/magazine tear-outs/etc in. Then I trasferred all the useful lists & pictures from the M. Stewart planner over. It’s so much better, because I set it up the way I like it & the way that works best for me.

If you choose to make your own planner, you can find all the helpful checklists I was referring to online. Check marthastewart.com/weddings, theknot.com, or weddingchannel.com.

*Edit: You can also find nearly all the same checklists in Martha Stewart’s wedding magazines.

  35. QUESTION:
I want to start a wedding consulting/event planning business.?
Can anyone recommend good books and/or trade publications for me? Not looking for wedding planning books, looking for how to books. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you’re interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

      * How To Start A Wedding Planning Business by Cho Phillips, Sherrie Wilkolaski
      * Start Your Own Wedding Consultant Business: Your Step-By-Step Guide to Success by Eileen Figure Sandlin
      * FabJob Guide to Become a Wedding Planner by Catherine Goulet
      * How to Start a Home-Based Event Planning Business by Jill Moran
      * Start Your Own Event Planning Business: Your Step by Step Guide to Success by Krista Turner

I also posted links to some free articles in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

LIke how long should you wait before you hire a wedding planning and book a venue and all that?

  37. QUESTION:
need a wedding planning book ?!?!?!?
Im using theknot.com to keep up with my payments on things and what I need to pay for. But I need something that tells me WHEN i need to get things done by. I havent found anything like that on theknot.com.

    Help?
That is exactly what I mean. And I just bought a “the knot” magazine and there wasnt one in there. I’ll check others but thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Have you looked in wedding magazines? Most of the ones I have bought have a calendar with a checklist showing you what needs to be done at what stage in the planning. Eg. 6 months before, 3 months before…etc leading up to the day.
I think this is the kind of thing you mean.

  38. QUESTION:
What are some websites or books on planning a wedding?

  39. QUESTION:
Suggestions for a wedding planning organizer or book?
    Hello,

I just became engaged over the weekend, and it’s quite exciting! We have yet to set a date etc…I will start thinking about details in the next 3 months or so…yet, I would love to get a hold of any books, mostly a wedding organizer, or a scrapbook of some sort to insert any ideas…since, I will not be using a wedding planner (I’m on a budget) I would love to hear any of your suggestions…I really don’t know how to begin!

    Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
There are lots of cute ones in major bookstores. I found that the pockets were too small and too few, and there was a lot of writing on topics that didnt pertain to me, or I already knew about. So I used a large binder and made labels for each new section as we planned. Whenever I got an idea or was gathering information on something, I stuck it in that section of the binder. I used the internet for questions on etiquette and so forth, and I used my calculator for budgeting.
After the wedding, I went through the binder and pulled anything that I used in the wedding, or things I saved while planning, and made a nice scrapbook that matched my wedding stationery.
This is just my suggestion. Happy planning!

  40. QUESTION:
What is this book about a father dying while the bride is planning her wedding?
My wife is looking for a book that we saw at Target, I believe it is fiction. It is about a woman who is planning her wedding and in the process, her father passes away. I hope someone can help because we didn’t buy it then, and now it is no where to be found. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
      Driftwood Lane
      By Denise hunter

      Widow’s walk
      Nikki Leigh

Both these books are about a women that were planning a wedding and her father dies’

Driftwood Lane is on Target on line not at stores
Widow’s walk is not on Target website

  41. QUESTION:
Planning wedding reception, how to estimate size room to book before you know how many guests will attend?
We booked a room that accommodates 120 people max on the assumption that many relatives from across the country would not be able to attend. Turns out many of them are actually coming, and we’ve run out of space at the reception. How could we have planned this better? Book a larger room to play it safe? But then you’re committing to extra expense that may not be necessary…

    • ANSWER:
When you spoke to your venue you should have told them how many guests you were inviting and how many you expected, if they are good they would have been able to put you in a room that will hold everyone if you got 100% yes replies, but not look sparse if not filled to capacity. Most of the time they have guaranteed minimums on the rooms and that should be around the estimated number you expect to come, so when you sign your contract you are only promising and responsible the amount you expect.

Its too late now though, it will be a tight squeeze, but I’m sure it will be fine. I would also recommend talking to your venue, if they dont have another event book in a larger room they probably wouldnt have a problem moving you guys over to the bigger room.

      Good luck

  42. QUESTION:
Do you need to book a wedding chapel in advance when planning to elope in Vegas?
My fiance and I are planning to elope in Vegas in May. I know that for most of the hotel chapels, you need to book in advance, but are there other chapels off the strip where you can just go and get married without booking? Feel free to share your experiences! Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
No you don’t. Many weddings in Vegas actually take place on the fly :) They are famous for that. But if you do have a specific chapel in mind, it never hurts to call them and find out their policy

  43. QUESTION:
    Suggested books for wedding planning?
I am recently engaged and feel ready to start planning the wedding. However, going into the bookstore to find a book sounds completely daunting! If anyone has any suggestions, or books to avoid, I’d appreciate it! Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
I suggest before you actually take the plunge is to read Monica Mendez Leahy’s “1001 Questions To Ask Before You Get Married”. Then the two of you should have an open forum about it. That way you two won’t have any surprises when you’re actually already in the stage of “married life.”

  44. QUESTION:
I am overwhelmed by all the wedding planning books out there. I want to get one though. Any suggestions?
I would like one that is very thorough, and that I can write in. I also want it to look nice so that I can keep it as a keepsake.

    • ANSWER:
Just a suggestion, but here is a book you can print, punch and insert into a binder of your choice.

You don’t have to print the pages you don’t want, can add other pages, and truly customize it how you want. There is a ton of helpful information on this website.

    Wedding planning books?
My boyfriend proposed to me about a month ago, and we are starting to get serious about planning the wedding since we finally have the time and money to do so. I know there are a LOT of books about this for straight people, I was wondering if there was a wedding planning book for gay people? We are pretty clueless as to what goes into a wedding, and how to plan it. And we don’t have parental support to rely on, so we are kind of on our own with this. Any, and all help will be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!!

I need one that will give me lots of good tips!
What has been most helpful to you?

    Thanks! =)

    • ANSWER:
The knot has been most helpful, and its free. There are so many pictures to get ideas from, they have some DIY sections, they have etiquette sections, a checklist for planning, a budgeter, and so much more. I would be clueless and lost without it.

    Thanks!!!

    • ANSWER:
I used the planner on TheKnot.com. It was very helpful, especially since it posted ‘alerts’ as to what I should have accomplished, or should start thinking about, during that month or week. It had some things I didn’t even think of!

I also bought a wedding binder organizer, but I never used it! I just kept all of the vendor info and contracts in a folder.

Wedding Planner Book

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Most people rely on movies like “The Wedding Planner” to form their definition of a typical wedding planner. For the most part, J.Lo as a headset wearing ”star of the show” is fantasy when it comes to being a wedding planner. Unlike Matthew and Bridget’s unlimited budget, you will be hired for your budgeting skills. But your bride will be stressed and this is where you DO shine. You will be called upon and hired or not hired based on your abilities to perform under pressure, like there is no pressure. Learning your role in brides’ and grooms’ weddings is the first piece of the wedding planning puzzle. Below is a list of the 3 most recognized service selections your clients have to choose from. We refer to these as ”packages.” However, I am here to tell you, if you want to excel past the cookie cutter wedding planner, then it is up to YOU to define these packages by adding your own pizazz to your unique services.

Wedding Planner – def (n)

A person who creates magic, pulls answers out of hat, and performs a flawless wedding (without sweating).

There are many services a wedding planner can provide to a bride. Depending on the bride’s needs and personality, it is up to the wedding planner to service her client’s needs. Not only is it important to meet the client’s expectations, but exceeding their expectations will enhance your referrals to help you find your next client.

Full Service Planner

A full service planner is able to really help the bride from literally the beginning to the end of her planning. From the moment the groom pops the question the bride comes into the planner’s office to begin the journey. This bride is often new to the area, gets overwhelmed easily, doesn’t like to make decisions, or is very busy in her career or education. A planner’s main responsibility is to be the representative for the family and keep communication lines open amongst all parties involved. Becoming the mediator is often a crucial role in this phase of the planning process.

Main Responsibilities of a Full Service Planner:

Set budget (stay on budget throughout the planning process)

Find reception/ceremony location

Book vendors (photographer, videographer, florist, entertainment)

Negotiate pricing for all vendors involved

Create personal dcor style for bride/groom

Create vendor timeline/bridal party timeline

Attend all meetings

Orchestrate the rehearsal and wedding day

Personal assistant to family

Follow up with miscellaneous tasks post-wedding

Partial Planner

This is the most popular program wedding planners can offer to their clients. Brides will come into the appointment with some of the choices already made, but would like professional guidance in the midst of the planning process. Brides think they can do it all themselves only to find frustration and an endless list of things to do hence, why they turn it over to a planner. There are three main services a wedding planner can provide: full service, partial, or day of planner. Knowing which type of service the client is seeking will help define the type of program to sell her. Each client is unique and some programs might have to be customized to fit her needs. Remember, the bride is the client you are the director. It is up to the director to guide the client into the right program to suit her needs.

Sometimes when you set up your registry the store will have freebies, including a planner.

  7. QUESTION:
Can anyone recommend a good wedding planner book/organizer?
My dear friend got engaged on Christmas Eve and I’d like to get her a Wedding Planner guide/Organizer so she can stay organized during this next year + of planning.

    • ANSWER:
Well i have actually made my own, with help from websites such as http://www.theknot.com and http://www.ezweddingplanner.com which were both very helpful to me.

But i also went to JCPenney’s and registered in their gift registry. Once you put 15 things on it (mind you that you dont have to use them), they give you this AWESOME planner book for free! It has separate catagories for everything!

Get her for sure though a big 3 ring binder, page separators, page holders, 3 hole punch, calculator, and business card holders. She will need it to keep track of everything. A notebook would also be sweet!

I just got engaged this weekend and would like to purchase a wedding planner book that will also be something I can keep afterward for memories. Does anyone have or know of a really good one? Any other books or websites you find helpful are also verrrry much appreciated :)

    • ANSWER:
The Knot or Brides.com are great online planning sites and both are free of charge. The Knot used to provide a free hard-cover wedding planner to all “knotties” but not sure if they still do this. Amazon has a plethora of planners – I’d advise you to select one that is a three-ring binder and has plastic sleeves that you can easily add/remove pages and have places to keep tear-sheets from magazines and print outs from websites of dresses, flowers, hairstyles, etc organized.

Congratulations on your recent engagement from everyone here at Robbins Brothers!

(meaning they didn’t hire a professional wedding planner.) It was an incredible event and you would never have known that she did all the organizing and planning herself. I put a link below to the wedding planner/organizer she used. She said it was awesome! I also too pictures and posted it on my blog. You’re welcome to check that out too!

Best of luck! I hope your day is wonderful!

    Thanks!!!

  16. QUESTION:
I can’t find wedding planner book?
I recently got engaged, and I’m very excited. I bought a binder and put clippings from magazines in it to save some of my ideas. In some of the magazines it gives timelines of things that need to be done six months before, six weeks before etc, and I was wondering where I can find like a wedding planner book somewhere with these timelines that I can write in. A book that I can fill out with information on venders, wedding parties, etc. perhaps something I can have as a keepsake with things and ideas from the weding.

I’d rather have a book of some sort, so that way I can have one big book instead of having mutiple binders and such. I looked at local bookstores and grocery stores and can only find magazines. And I can go to websites and print these off, but aren’t there books out there somewhere?
yeah, I was told to go to borders, but there out of business in the town closest to me. :( barnes in noble, a few hours aways..perhaps I can order one somewhere? We dont even have a walmart here..

    • ANSWER:
I got a book called The Ultimate Wedding Planner. It comes in a binder format or a spiral ‘notebook’ format. That was pretty helpful. It has tabs seperating the different sections, like flowers, catering, photography and so on. Then in each section it gives you a list of questions that you want to ask each vendor and it gives you space to make your own notes and pockets for idea clippings.
Another good book to read is The Knot Wedding Planner. This is more of a book, not a workbook, but it gives you background on different ceremony types and their religious meaning, it has invitation wording for different family situations (divorced parents, etc…) and arrangements for the wedding party to walk down the isle. its a pretty helpful book, but I will have to say, all in all, I used the internet for most of my research and then just put it in my workbook.
Have fun planning you wedding. I had a blast planning mine~

Also, what are some important details that can be overlooked?

What are some fun and creative alternatives to dancing?

What are some fun and creative drinks that are non-alcoholic?

How can I scrimp and save without making my wedding look cheap? (without deleting people from guest list – I HAVE A BIG BIG FAMILY!)

P.S.I’m Brazilian and I want to incorporate some of that into the food, but I don’t want to serve regular Brazilian food. If you have any thoughts or experience with Brazlian weddings, your input would be GREAT!

My budget is ,000. I’ll probably have 150-250 (or less) guests.

    • ANSWER:
The Knot’s Wedding Planner is very detailed. As for saving, I would try ebay and maybe craigslist depending on where you live? You could always serve virgin drinks. As for alternatives to dancing, I once went to a wedding that had a comedian instead of dancing. Hope I helped!

My sister is getting married next year and it’s her 21st this year, so I thought a great present would be a wedding planner/organiser book. 23. QUESTION:
Which wedding planner book can you recommend?
I am looking for something that isn’t written with America in mind as i seem to keep finding? I am trying to help my friend and want to give her something that’ss really useful not just full of silly ideas like…find someone who’s getting married in the same year and share a dress….yes i have read that!!

    thank you in advance!
But isn’t the knot an american website? Im looking for something that will be helpful in the UK and not harp on about rehearsal dinners and other american customs that we dont follow so much here? I guess something preferably by a British Author?

    • ANSWER:
i’m not sure how specific you’d like the planning or details to be, but i was reading two wedding magazines this week and the planning sections in those were brilliant.

the mag’s are called Wedding Ideas (weddingideasmagazine.co.uk), the other is Perfect Wedding (perfectweddingmag.com), they’re both £2.99 monthly.
both magazines seem to be geared heavily toward british customs in general, always pointing out what they are stating as traditional or modern as well. one of them had a budget planner that didn’t give so many details you’d cry, but enough so you knew roughly where you stand. another feature was a countdown – 18 months to go, 12 months to go, 9 months to go, then 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. there are directories in the back of websites for different things like cakes, dresses, florists and all the rest of it, top table seating plans for situations like separated parents of bride/groom etc….

i’ll stop now, i’m starting to sound like a promotion agent!! ha ha!! but they really are brilliant, i think the published books tend to go into a bit too much detail

  24. QUESTION:
Just got engaged!! Need a good wedding book/planner/organizer. Any suggestions??

    • ANSWER:
I would recommend you take a trip to your local bookstore (i.e., Barnes & Noble, Borders) and compare the wedding planner/organizers they have available. Most large bookstores carry a large selection of planners to choose from. Once you’ve had the opportunity to compare, you can pick out books that best suit your needs. I choose to purchase a wedding planner that provided both suggestions on wedding planning and an accordian binder to hold all of my contracts and wedding related papers, but I can’t recall the name since it was over 4 years ago.

  28. QUESTION:
booking wedding/wedding planner- can i pay a deposit and then by installments without a credit check anywhere?
im planning on getting married abroad in a couple of years but wanted to get the ball rolling with a wedding planner asap. i dont have the funds to pay for everything yet but i have a small deposit and would like to pay a couple of hundred quid a month until its paid off before the big day. (without a credit check or a dodgy wedding planner who may run off with my money!)

    • ANSWER:

  29. QUESTION:
Where can I find a website to sign up for wedding cake catalogs?
I’m getting married in April and I need to have some options for a wedding cake. I don’t always have access to the internet and when I do I don’t have long and don’t have access to a printer if I find one I like. I’m also looking for a free wedding planner book. Not the online kind. Please tell me of any good sites to go to sign up for any of these things.

    • ANSWER:
Good question, i got a lot of catalogs just subscribing on wedding sites try wedding wire.com

  30. QUESTION:
Where can i get free wedding material?
I am 24 I am getting married next year I was wondering does anyone no where I can get any wedding planning stuff! You know like wedding guide books, wedding planner books free anyone help please!

    • ANSWER:
theknot.com, weddingwire.com, the Martha Stewart wedding website, snippetandink.blogspot.com, offbeatbride.com and indiebride.com are very good free websites that are quite helpful with wedding planning.

I didn’t need any magazines or planning books during my engagement. The magazines are basically just advertisements for wedding gowns and useless products. You can easily use a regular binder or a small notebook for keeping track of your lists and plans. Don’t waste your money on these things .. rely on the free websites and use a binder/notebook and a folder to make notes and hold onto your contracts and receipts.

  31. QUESTION:
What are things I can do now in order to become a wedding planner?
im 15 now and i really want to be a wedding planner…im looking for books or magazines and the ones that ive seen are expensive but i was wondering which ones are better LOL

im also wondering what are some tips for college or are there things i can do during the summer while im still in highschool?!?!?!?!

    • ANSWER:
Find out things that must go into a wedding. I would suggest buying a wedding planning book, and use it as a template. Learn how to budget, coordinate, etc.
Take a look at Preston Burke’s stuff, he has designed a lot of beautiful weddings! That is something I would like to get involved in, right now I’m studying Interior Design, hopefully I can work that into a career with weddings as well.
One thing you might want to do is start researching wedding venues, florists, dress shops, bakeries, caterers, etc in the area and make yourself a bookmark file to all of these. I’ve heard that David’s Bridal has a very extensive colour coordinating section. That may be good, and you also might want to look into the extras like monogrammed napkins, centerpieces, confetti, wedding favours.
Read up a lot on wedding traditions, and symbolism. If you really want to do this just start looking at everything to do with weddings and immerse yourself in it. Books may seem expensive, but they are a good investment. Just decide before you buy it, if it is just nice to look at, or if there is lots of valuable reference information. Also if you go to a bookstore in your neighborhood, find books you like and make note of prices, when you go home check on amazon.com and barnes and noble to see if you can save money.
And, if you do end up changing your mind about your future, at least you decided young, and won’t have to worry about a career switch later on.
      Good luck!

  32. QUESTION:
How long Should I book The hall for my Wedding?
I am getting married in august, and need to book my hall i also need to get quotes for my dj.
The hall will be used for both the ceremony and the reception and they will follow one after another. How long should I book the hall for considering set up and cleanup and how long should i book the dj? 1 hour? 2 hours? I need help, we are trying to make this wedding inexpensive so that we can have a big honey moon in Japan so a wedding planner is out of the question.

    • ANSWER:
I’d reccomend the whole day. That way things won’t be all rushed, nobody likes a rushed party. And no one will remember your wedding half as much as they do the reception. My sisters wedding was also done inexpensively. Catered by the Safeway deli and lots of it, lots of soda, beer and some wine. A cousin acted as DJ. The reception started at noon, the bride and groom left at 4, the party lasted until after midnight. 19 years later and people still talk about it. Another cousin had hers at a very expenesive hotel, lush expensive everything, booked for two hours. All anyone remembers is the hotel staff clearing stuff away while people were still eating.

  33. QUESTION:
Am i the only girl that does not fantasize over her wedding day?
All my friends are like, Oh, let’s go look at the wedding planner books! And I’m like, Dude, who cares about weddings?

Seriously, what is so special about weddings? Yeah, it’s cool because you get to wear a pretty dress, but I don’t get all the hype for it.

    • ANSWER:
i am the same way me and my hubby just had a small wedding but I look at it as the money u spend on these big wedding is money U can use to buy a home lol

  34. QUESTION:
Too young to become a wedding planner?
Do you think 21 is too young to become a wedding planner?
Im interested in becoming one but im just wondering how many brides would let a 21 year old plan a wedding when most wedding planners are 30 plus, and have planned their own weddings first!
Ive always loved weddings, Ive compiled a list of all the wedding venues etc in my area, read loads of wedding books and even helped my mum plan her wedding last month but I am just wondering is 21 too young to make a business out of it?????

    • ANSWER:
If you are passionate about being a wedding planner, then you have won half of the battle. You know what you want and you should take the steps to achieve your goals. If you want more experience, perhaps working for a wedding planner is the first step. But, if you feel confident you can delegate responsibilities and be accountable for thousands of dollars in bride’s deposits/down payments, then go for it.
I was a 22 year old bride, made my own dress and those of my bridal party. Next thing I know, I am getting calls to make wedding gowns left and right. That natural talent started my business. And when the bridal fashions were no longer a challange, I became an interior decorator, specializing in making window treatments.
So, my dear, go for it and do not look back as your heels smoke.

  35. QUESTION:
What is the BEST Wedding planning book?
I am looking into purchasing a Wedding Planner. But there are SO many! If anyone has had experience with any certain one, or can just recommend one for me, that’d be great. Links are appreciated as well (preferably to the certain one on amazon.com)

    • ANSWER:
I have three suggestions, that I’ve personally used before. (as a maid of honour each time) I liked them all, they each offered their own pros and cons.

      http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Wedding-Organizer-Checklists-Worksheets/dp/1593376405/ref=pd_sim_b_42

      http://www.amazon.com/Bridal-Bargains-Wedding-Planner-Planning/dp/1889392308/ref=pd_sim_b_2

      http://www.amazon.com/Wedding-Small-Budget-Planner-Organizer/dp/0898795303/ref=sr_1_52?s=STORE&ie=UTF8&qid=1281751017&sr=1-52

Each of them proved to be really useful in keeping track of things and keeping things on budget, and on time.

  37. QUESTION:
How on earth do I plan a wedding?
Alrighty…I just got engaged…**YAY**…I’m so excited!

Problem is, I don’t know the first thing about planning a wedding….I will probably get married around Oct 2007…I’ve started making a scrapbook of ideas and found a dress thats to die for….I got a wedding planner book…actually my fiance got it, but won’t let me have it til Christmas!!! hehe

I’m on my own in a lot of ways…so I need girl advice on how to get started! Any tips, lists, suggestions, etc…would be much appreciated! Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
The best thing to do is to go to the message boards on theknot.com. They have local boards so girls from your area can recommend vendors and also tell you which ones to stay away from. I had no idea where to start either but after being on there for a couple months, I’ve found a lot of GREAT deals, booked vendors I would have never heard of otherwise and gotten some great tips.
Book your reception and church as soon as possible- they book up fast (a lot of times it’s a year in advance or more!). Then photographer, videographer (if you’re having one), dress, bridesmaids dresses, and florist, etc. (Those are just the most important ones to get done).
And go to bridal shows! They start up again in January and you can find tons of great deals and win GREAT stuff! I’ve won waterford crystal toasting flutes, 0 off my dress, a bridal bouquet, a night in a suites hotel, gift certificate to a florist, and a hand mixer! You’ll definitely win stuff that will help you out!

  38. QUESTION:
what was your best wedding resource (other than a planner/consultant)
ok, this is just an opinion question, there is no right/wrong answer, all i ask is that you answer in a polite way (no bashing or harsh words please!) BUT… what wedding planning book or software have you found to be the best and most usefull for you, i am in the PA area, and do not want to hire a wedding planner, we have a consultant, but that’s just for the reception. but which book/software/website have you found to be the best singularly or combined and why?

    • ANSWER:
This will probably sound so cliche but I found the Martha Stewart website the most helpful. It give’s you step by step list of things you need to do. Also you can find her wedding planning book at Wal-Mart or Barnes and Noble. I’m getting married in Oct. and this book was exactly what I used to plan my own wedding of 250 people. Hope this helps.

  39. QUESTION:
About how many customers does a wedding planner have at once?
I’m thinking about becoming a wedding planner and I want to know about how many weddings a wedding planner usually does at once? To make more money I would have to be doing more then one wedding at a time….so what do you think would be a good number of customers before I’m “booked”?

    • ANSWER:
i believe it is up to your capabilities. Never accept more than you can handle.

      Good luck!

  40. QUESTION:
Should the wedding planner give back the deposit?
A friend says that she once hired a planner, had given her the initial deposit and made an additional payment for the planner’s services.
The planner did do a good job, and the planning was moving along very nicely but my friend called off the wedding only a couple months in.

The planner told her that when the time comes, and she does indeed need a planner- that the amount she’s paid can go toward the new amount. However, the planner did not offer the deposit back.

This all took place a few months back and now my friend has decided the planner was wrong to not return the deposit- since it was described as the “reservation of services” for her wedding date. My friend believes that since the planner can now freely book another wedding for that date- she should return the deposit.

I think my friend is bitter, and…wrong. AND, it was only 0 deposit.

    What do you think though?
she claims that the contract does not specify the deposit being non-refundable, only “payment of services rendered” being nonrefundable. Because of the lack of specific wording- she feels that she is owed her deposit back.

    • ANSWER:
Sorry honey she doesn’t get it back. She is actually quite lucky to have a planner who is willing to apply it to a future wedding. She had done some of the planning and is therefore due her payment and actually the planner is within her right to recharge again in the future. Sounds like she is going out of her way to be nice to me.

  41. QUESTION:
Anybody know the order of the series “THE WEDDING PLANNER’S DAUGHTER?”?
I just got this new book and I LOVE IT!! Its called Forget Me Not by Coleen Murtagh Paratore. I looked it up and I think there is a series called “The Wedding Planner’s Daughter” Am I right? If so what is the order of the books in the series?

    • ANSWER:
      1 The Wedding Planner’s Daughter
      2 The Cupid Chronicles
      3 Willa By Heart
4 Forget Me Not, From the Life of Willa Havisham

There are 2 more planned in the series, 1 of which is supposed to be released in 2009

  42. QUESTION:
What would be a creative way to do my book report?
The book is Maximum Ride: Max by James Patterson. Some examples of creativity would be:

someone who did a book called “Just Listen” made her book report in the form of an iPod.

someone who did the book “The Wedding Planner’s Daughter” made a wedding invitation.

How can I portray MY book in a creative, but relative way?

    • ANSWER:
Make the design(like the plot, exposition, climax, etc.) into the form of a rollercoaster.

  43. QUESTION:
I read a romance novel about a wedding planner and a prince–anyone know the title?
My mom got it for me randomly last year from a library. From what I remember, there’s a wedding planner hired to help a prince get married, but instead she marries him to please his dying father. Of course they end up falling in love, etc, etc. It’s a series, and in one of the other books I think (I think) the plot involves a detective. It’s been driving me crazy–any help would be great!

    • ANSWER:
idk but now i want to read it

  44. QUESTION:
What can I do now to plan for our wedding that’s next December?
How soon are you supposed to book your reception site? Would a wedding planner/organizer book help me plan for the wedding? Or is it unnecessary?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Personally, I had a planner/organizer and I wrote maybe 10 words in it and that was it – so I think it’s not worth it. I wound up writing notes on scraps of paper or on a legal pad that I kept in my oversize purse – lol. Honestly, I think they’re a waste of money – do what works for you as far as organization.

As for the reception site….don’t wait too long. I would say book at least a year and a half in advance, but if the venue you are looking into is a very busy, popular place, you may want to start looking now and at least put a small deposit on the room to have them hold it for you.
      :)

  46. QUESTION:
    Wedding planner templates?
I recently got engaged and I am starting to plan my engagement party. I’ve been looking at Wedding planning books and such but I would prefer to make my own. I’ve been googling “free wedding planner templates” and stuff like that but I haven’t really found anything worth using. Any ideas?

    Thanks, MJ

    • ANSWER:
Hey I know few links which help you alot in this situation:

  47. QUESTION:
When you’re meeting with your wedding planner for the first time, what do you want to see?
I usually bring letters of recommendation, a sample “notebook” (the book that holds it all), contracts and receipts. What would you want to see?

    • ANSWER:
previous weddings that they have done and proof that they did them.

  48. QUESTION:
    Monica’s(from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.) wedding book Idea?
Ok this is silly cus I’m so young, but my mother and my sisters and I Love, i mean loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, wedding shows we watch dozens of them, its how we bond, talking about how we each want to do our weddings, where they are going to be…ETC.
My mother had the idea to start writing them down and collecting things like Monica does in the TV Show FRIENDS.
But I went to Borders Book store and saw they have wedding planners on the shelves.
Which should I do? Get a binder and things like that.
Or buy a premade one and fill it with things. If so have any of y’all seen one like that? All i can really find locally is books about wedding planning not really a binder type book that i can fill with ideas.

    thanks. :D

    –lauren alice.

    • ANSWER:
I dont recommend buying a planner because you it may have categories that dont apply to you, or you may find that you need more space than they give for one section. Its not flexible enough.

I suggest getting a binder, some pretty envelopes, or even a blank scrapbook so that you can organize things your way. You can glue the envelopes into the scrapbook pages. You can get some pretty scrapbook paper to cover the blank pages, and you can glue your ideas right on that. Write notes or ideas next to magazine clippings. Use cute paperclips to attach other ideas and notes. You will get lots of ideas at a scrapbook store, you really should visit one for ideas. It should be a blank slate that you work from, not a premade book.

      Have fun!

  49. QUESTION:
what comes after forget me not in the wedding planner’s daughter series?
does anyone know the series the wedding planners daughter? well, i want to know the book that comes after forget me not in the series. thank you!!!!!!!!!!

    • ANSWER:
The next book is “Wish I Might”.

And, just so you know, “Forget Me Not” and “Wish I Might” are actually part of a different series that branched off of the Wedding Planners Daughter series. The series is called “From the Life of Willa Havisham”.

      Good luck finding the book!

  50. QUESTION:
Which wedding planner/organizer should I buy?
I am planning my wedding myself and the book store shelves are overwhelming!

    • ANSWER:
buy one that has it broken up into sections and after each section there are websites for that section IE flowers, cakes, ect. also buy one that has a long running check list and one that has a budget sheet.

Wedding Organiser

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Preparing for 00004000 a wedding is always a time of great joy and also great stress. This article includes some tips that would apply to preparing for a marriage anywhere in the world, but is specifically about getting married in Spain, as the Spanish culture, bureaucracy and weather make certain preparations different than elsewhere.

If you plan on having the full legal marriage ceremony in Spain, then be aware that different regions of Spain have different legal requirements and for some being a Spanish resident is necessary. It’s not Las Vegas and a quick legal ceremony is therefore not an option, so ensure that the actual legal ceremony and the church or wedding venue fit with your desires and your faith.

Again, for a full legal wedding, the bureaucracy can be substantial and it normally takes a few months to obtain all the necessary documents you need from different authorities. This is an area where a wedding organiser can help, particularly if you don’t speak Spanish.

Before you make a firm decision on where and when to marry, it’s therefore best to research different options and the first decision is perhaps to marry in Spain, or to have the legal ceremony in your native country and have the non-legal wedding ceremony in Spain.

If you have the opportunity to visit both the wedding venue and the accommodation in advance (preferably without announcing your intentions first, so you get a more objective view), then this is certainly a good idea. If not, then see what other people recommend and find as much information out as possible through the internet or other sources.

The most important thing is that you agree with each other. If you and your partner have different faiths, then it’s possible to create a ceremony that is respectful of both your faiths, be they religious, spiritual, humanist, alternative or if one or both of you are of no faith.

Particularly if a large group are staying in the same hotel, it’s worth trying to negotiate a discounted rate if someone mentions that they’re part of your group, or perhaps some other offer for your party.

Many people can be involved in creating a marriage ceremony – florists, caterers, entertainers, etc. If you can afford it, then hiring a Spanish speaking wedding organiser can make this go more smoothly and only you to enjoy yourselves more and fret less about the details. Whether you decide to co-ordinate everything yourself, or pay someone else to co-ordinate things, it’s best to get everything in writing from suppliers – how much will be supplied, when, etc., as this reduces the likelihood that things will go wrong at the last minute, and also adds clarity to the process.

If you feel that you need to make a lot of final plans before you can be absolutely sure of the venue, you can always send out save the date invites, with a full invite sent later, as this allows guests more time to arrange leave from work, find good flights and organise a hotel and car hire, etc.

In this day and age, it’s quite common to create a wedding website where you publish the most important details of your big day. Make sure you add photos to the website after the honeymoon, for those who couldn’t be there.

For winter weddings that you’re holding outside, make sure you have a contingency plan if it rains. Equally important for summer weddings, you need to take into consideration that Spain can get very hot – particularly during the day in August. If you’re having a summer wedding, then I would recommend starting the wedding proceedings in the late afternoon or evening, when it’s cooler, making sure that there’s plenty of water for everyone and if possible a source of shade.

Alcohol also quickly dehydrates people and while it is accepted as a normal part of most marriage ceremonies, it may be best not to offer too much alcohol too early in the proceedings, but wait until the evening party, so your guests don’t dehydrate during the hottest part of the day.

When choosing the bride and groom’s outfits, you’d be wise to choose one that will keep you cool enough in the summer, or warm enough in the winter.

If a guest offers to sing or play an instrument at your wedding, then it might be worth making sure that they can play or sing well before you say ‘yes’ – this is your special day, so be willing to say ‘no’ to any suggestions that you’re not comfortable with or that don’t fit your desires. If, however, you ask guests to sing or give a speech, check that they’re confident enough to talk or sing in front of the assembly.

While it’s traditional for the bride to be a little late, it’s best not to be too late. For the wedding itself, ideally arrive a day or two before and allow time for delays. This also helps both the bride and groom to be more relaxed.

Your marriage ceremony, whether in Spain or anywhere in the world, will be a day of great joy. It’s also only natural to be nervous, so while much of this article encourages consideration of your guests, remember that this day is for the two of you. Be willing to ask for what you want and what you need and may your day be blessed with happiness and love.

My sister has never done a course in her life for wedding planning and she took on the responsibility of organizing my two sisters wedding parties, and whenever someone walked past the venue they had to ask for the contacts details (my sis), so i personally think taking a course is a wate of time and if you get experience its much more valuable. Wedding Organiser – Book?
Anyone recommend any wedding organising / planning books on the market. There seems to be loads on Amazon, and eBay… can’t seem to choose the best one..

Looking for something so i can write down all my ideas, dates of dress fitting appts, as well as having advice, and a system of planning the wedding.

    Many thanks

    • ANSWER:
i think it just depends on what type of wedding you want to have. they have books for weddings on a budget, weddings that you have to plan quickly, etc. Look for one that caters to what you expect from your wedding. Most of them will have pockets or ziplocks for your receipts etc. I made my own book (i hate spending money on things like that even though i know it’s helpful). i just got a 3 ring binder and printed off pages from sites i found helpful. you can find templates of budgets and everything online. then i printed off dresses i liked, flowers, etc. and put them all in the book. then when i narrowed it down a little i’d tear the page out with the dress i decided not to get, eventually i was left with everything i really wanted. but that worked for me… everyone is different.

  16. QUESTION:
small wedding venue in Sri Lanka please?
We want to get married in Sri Lanka, no guests, no big fuss, no big resort, just somewhere nice, different, simple, not too expensive. Dont want a package or a wedding organiser, we’ll book flights independently and get ourselves there, we just want a private nice place away from most of the other tourists and not in a hugh concrete chain hotel – but preferably with ayurvedic treatments and mediation.. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like a small spa is going to be your best bet. This site has several options.
      boutiquesrilanka.com/ayurvedi…

You might also find this site very helpful. srilankanexpeditions.com/acti…
The left side column lists many hotels and spas and there is also a list at the bottom of this page.

This link includes places that specifically offer the treatments that you are looking for. Some of these will be bigger hotels, but there are probably several small ones that are just what you are looking for srilankanexpeditions.com/acti…

I should also mention a warning that I found on another website. It is probably best to stay in the southern part of Sri Lanka because of the violence in the north. I would advise you to research that further and get advice from the government (both of your country as well as Sri Lanka) before you travel there.

Traveling all the way to Sri Lanka for your wedding could be expensive. You’re very wise to steer clear of wedding organizers and big chain hotels. If you’re looking for other ways to save a little money on your wedding, check out http://www.savemoneyonawedding.com.

  27. QUESTION:
Hi Can anyone recommend to me the best online wedding planning organizer site?
Why do you reccomend this one over another. The wedding is for this July so I am running out of time!

    • ANSWER:
      www.theknot.com

I am a very particular person and it seemed to be layed out exactly how I would want it. I didn’t end up using it too much because wedding planning got too insane to keep track online and I needed a good old fashioned paper notebook.

      Good luck and congrats!

  33. QUESTION:
I want to plan a simple wedding?
We are getting married March 28th, 2009. I already know we are having a church ceremony and short reception there for our church family. I want to also rent somewhere to have a bigger reception for all friends and family. I need a wedding checklist/organizer but all that I find are for fancy weddings. I’m a simple girl and we want a simple wedding. (I’m not going to wear a traditional wedding dress, probably something springy and light)

Can anyone suggest any websites or resources?

    • ANSWER:
      www.theknot.com
      www.weddingcentral.com

      are my favorite sites.

This is what I did to help my friend plan her spring wedding.
A dear friend of mine and her husband pulled off a lovely garden wedding on 4/1/07. Yep that’s right April Fools Day. This was also the anniversary of their first date. So they decided to plan a surprise garden wedding for their close family and a few friends. They had a VERY small budget, and a very short amount of time to pull it off. Her brother was going to be home from Iraq for a short period of time, and she wanted to get married while he was home. So they decided to plan the wedding around his leave time. They know Im VERY VERY VERY frugal with money, so I offered to help them plan their special day. Their budget was 00.00, and we had 4 weeks to plan.

Venue: In the backyard of her rented house (Free)

Reception: Went to a local party event place and rented everything she wanted for 0.00. (0.00). (A friend of mine used her employee discount).

Photographer: Hired the church photographer for a small fee (0.00).

Officiant: Their pastor married them (free).

Food: A light brunch with grilled honey chicken, grilled salmon, asparagus, salad, croissant rolls, pasta salad, fruit salad, fruit punch, bottled water and cake for dessert. ( I used my membership at costco to get alot of this at cost.. she went with me though and she prepared the food). (0.00)

Music: Irish/Celtic singers and bands played through out the ceremony and reception. (Free)

Flowers and Decor: The flowers she got from the beautiful flower garden she kept. (Free)

Attire: They both decided to get really frugal for this part. They went to Ross Dress 4 Less, and spent less then .00 for their outfits. She bought a lovely strapless blue dress for .00 and matching heels for .00. She already had the jewelry. He bought a pair of black slacks, belt, and matching blue shirt for .00. He had black shoes. I love that store. (.00)

Hair, make up and nails: I am a licensed hairstylist, and I did this for free. (As my gift to them)

Rings: Since I worked at J.C. Penney, I used my employee discount to get them a really nice wedding rings for 0.00. (0.00)

Invitations: She is a creative sort of gal. She made some lovely invitations out of recycled paper, that were absolutely lovely. I’m not sure how much she spent on the materials, but they were breath taking. Im going to guesstimate she spent no more then say .00.
      (.00)

      Marriage License: .00 (I think).

      Honeymoon: 3 days at a B&B in NC. (5.00).

With taxes, fees, and other small items we spent about 0.00.

      I hope this helps. :)

      :)

  37. QUESTION:
Which wedding planner/organizer should I buy?

    Wedding organisers in Kefalonia?
Hi everyone, I am looking at getting married in Kefalonia next June and was wondering if anyone has heard of or had any experience with these wedding organizers there as the travel agents in the UK don’t seem to be-able to offer me the wedding package’s that i desire.

    My Greek Wedding – Kefalonia
Kefalonia Weddings (Ionian Holiday Services Ltd)
    Mythos Weddings
    Ionian Weddings

I am particularly interested in My Greek Wedding organizers as they seem to have the best services but I don’t really want to put my wedding in there hands without knowing anything about them or any other organisers you could recommend.

    Many thanks

    • ANSWER:
Well, I’m not from Kefalonia so I cannot help you with the services but the one thing i recommend you is to BARGAIN! :D
Those wedding organizers might take advantage of you seeing that you are not Greek. You will have to bargain about the prices for example if “My Greek Wedding” provides services for -lets say- 10$ and “Kefalonia Weddings” provides services for -lets say- 8$ , you should point this out to the ” My Greek Wedding” people in order to siege them for a better price.
You will save some money, believe me!!
      Hope that i helped! :)
Happy Wedding by the way. It’s going to be a perfect dream, especially in Kefalonia! :)

My b/f wrote off his car and we are going to a wedding soon. The Reception is about 8 miles from the church and we are expected to make our own way there. • ANSWER:

  42. QUESTION:
How can someone be a be a Wedding Planner, Consultant, Coordinator, Organizer? What do they need to do?
Whatever you want to call it LOL

I don’t think there schooling to become one … but I could be wrong … is there?

How can someone start doing and being one?

(I mean A Certified Wedding Planner, Consultant, Coordinator, Organizer)
opps didnt mean to put two ” be a” LOL

    • ANSWER:
Congratulations, you want to be a wedding planner! Have you got nerves of steel, a hard heart, patiences of Job, touch skin,
can you be yell at, scream at, cussed with a smile on your face?

I really want you to want Bridzella, then I want you to watch The Wedding Planner. First of all, you can take classes, I don’t know of any of just weddings, but their are event planning classes.
I worked for a wedding consultant for several years, I no longer no it, but for family and close friends. But you need contacts!
Get you some cards printed up, and go make nice with people you are going to dealing with…. bakeries, catrers, food suppliers,
restuaranats, hotels, DJ’s. Word of mouth is the best advertisement. Got any friends that are getting married, do their’s for free. get a few weddings under your belt, plently of pictures and testimonals from them. Come up with unusaual ideas, keep it under budget! deliever what the client wants when she wants it. If you live in a big city it’s going to be harder, but show your stuff.
Always…Always look put together, never go to the store, and look like you just crawled out of bed! Your clients wants a imagine! They want someone who looks like they know what they are doing, and looks good doing it. You don’t have to be drop dead beautiful, but you can’t go around in ratty jeans, and curlers in your hair. You are going to have to sell yourself, you are going to make nice, with some of the rudest people on earth, you are going have to bargin, plead, and kiss some tail, It’s a rough business, don’t let anyone tell you different. It’s rewarding when, you see that smile on the couples faces, but look at what you had to go through to get to that point. I loved it, but it is stressful, and hard work, but the money is good, I quit for personal reason, I got married, and started a family, and I didn’t have the time to really give the brides what they deserve.
Make sure you get a good decent lawyer to write you up a easy to understand contract. Everything in writing, if you call someone, you get their name, write the date and time down you talked to them. Document everything….
I wish I was younger, I might just try it again. I hope I helped some. Remember one thing, never let your client see you stress or worried. Never-ever! You are super-planner, and you can fix or solve any problem! Best wishes in your new adventure!

      God bless us all…

Visit the churchs in your area, leave some cards with the ministers…florists are another….

    • ANSWER:
Some of you may be wondering why learning How to Become a Party and Event Planner would be of interest to anyone. But, if have always dreamed of owning your own business and having the freedom that comes along with it, then you will definitely be interested in the event planning industry. Worldwide, the annual sales generated in the party, business, and event planning industry exceed 0 billion dollars (Source: International Special Events Society). Anyone entering into this industry has a wide range of options available to them and a huge market to tap into.

      Estimated start up costs:
The start-up costs of becoming a party and event planner are relatively low but they will depend upon what services you intend offering. For most, the essential equipment includes: cell phone, laptop, business cards, Yellow Pages ad, and a good organizer of some sort. If you intend on offering catering as one of your event planning jobs, then clearly you will need a fully stocked kitchen but it is possible to outsource this function if you are coordinating the entire event. Bare bones start-up costs including a rough estimate for liability insurance would be less than 00 if you did your homework and found some deals along the way.

      Recommended experience, skills, and training:
Although college degrees are available for an event planner, most of the entrepreneurs within the industry do not have one. The majority of business owners started out in catering or business meeting planning and expanded into event planning. However, many owners have attended classes and attained certification. In addition to education, learning how to become a party and event planner includes experience in the following areas: marketing, accounting, management, and sales.

      Marketing tips:
To obtain credibility as a competent event planner, it is imperative that you present a professional image at all times. All of your invoices, e-mails, business cards, and correspondence should bear your company logo and have continuity in visual presentation. You will probably see good results from joining networking groups and the local chamber of commerce. Word-of-mouth will be critical in the early phases while working with the public but you will need a completely professional image and marketing strategy to land the corporate accounts.

Creating a website and filling it with a lot of useful content will land you a high ranking in the search engines and provide you with a powerful marketing tool to help promote your business. Be sure to include a link to this website in all of your e-mails and correspondence as a cheap but effective way of driving traffic to your site. Finally, use direct mail campaigns to local businesses that include some kind of promotion or discount for using your services.

I am looking for wedding planners to help me be organized and there are so many to choose from. Did you find an online website with an organizer, or a book/binder planner more helpful? Which ones did you like/recommend? Are there any to stay away from.

    Thanks!!!

      Good Luck!

  49. QUESTION:
where can i purchase a wedding planner organizer?

    • ANSWER:
Barnes and Noble, Boarders, any bookstore, really. I know for a fact that Martha Stewart Weddings makes one and so does The Knot.com

Fall 2012 Wedding Dresses Fashion Forecast

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 12, 2011

Ready-to-wear New York Fashion week has started, but come mid-October, it is New York Bridal Week that is taking over. New wedding dresses will be presented to the press to be sold in bridal salons in 2012. Parisian born Severine Ferrari, editor- in-chief of Wedding Dresses and Engagement 101 magazines, has just released her predictions for the 6 new trends about to hit the bridal runway. 2012 and 2013 brides and celebrities should consider wearing these romantic or fashion forward new trends.

1-Lace Wedding Dresses
Lace has made a huge come back through celebrity weddings and is bound to be everywhere on the runway. This timeless trimming can be used for discreet details, like on Kim Kardashians strapless wedding dress, or more lavishly all over like on Kate Middletons wedding dress.

2- Wedding Dresses with Sleeves
Short, 3-quarter or even puffy sleeves will be everywhere. Brides who still want to go strapless will have the option of picking a bolero jacket that they can remove for the reception. The sleeves fabric will be solid (satin or organza) or transparent (illusion net, chiffon or lace).

3- Wedding Dresses with Dots and Prints
Wedding Dresses are sometimes inspired by ready-to- wear and though we might see some stripes, polka dots, and painted silks or prints will offer some alternative wedding dresses options.

4- Halter Wedding Dresses with High-Necks
Again, either part of the dress or the jacket, we are about to see wedding dresses with lavalieres, Claudine collars and Queen Anne necklines. Halter wedding dresses are perfect for this trend in order to keep the look modern and hip.

5-Fantasy Wedding Dresses
Princess like statement ball gowns are going to be hot. But the fantasy could go even further and include a more costume feel to personalize the wedding. I am thinking period, old fairy tales, iconic movies Wedding Dresses are going to tell us the brides story. Check out the recently married Lauren Bush Laurens wedding attire.

6-Wedding Dresses Covered with Sequins
Sparkle mini and sheath dresses will light the runway.
Wedding Dresses Magazine is a 20 year bridal magazine published at WeddingDresses.com. Engagement 101 Magazine, the magazine for couples about to get engaged, is distributed on newsstands in the US and Canada. I need a bolero jacket for a wedding dress. I have been looking all over for them and can’t find a website?

  9. QUESTION:
I have to have my shoulders covered for my wedding next year. I am desperately searching for a lace bolero.?
I want it to be 3/4 sleeve so I am having trouble finding one in the stores. Does anyone know where I can buy one in Akron, Ohio? I also have someone who is willing to sew one for me. Where online can I find a good pattern?? HELP!

    • ANSWER:
      Pattern:

      http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/F1530.htm?search=bolero&page=1

This pattern would have to be adjusted to make the sleeves 3/4 length, but this shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the person willing to sew it for you. You could then decide if you want straight edged sleeves or the sleeves in the pattern.

      http://www.simplicitynewlook.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_8_32&products_id=8900

Again the sleeves would have to be adjusted (this may be more complicated as length would need to be added not taken away)

      http://www.simplicitynewlook.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_8_32&products_id=7889

The sleeves in that one may be 3/4 but it’s hard to tell from the top photo.
      To buy:

      http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LACE-Beads-Wedding-Bridal-Bolero-3-4-Sleeve-Jacket-Cust_W0QQitemZ110456506241QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Wedding_Clothing?hash=item19b7b88781#ht_5130wt_1158

That bolero is absolutely adorable if you don’t mind buying from ebay, which I’ve never had any problems with.

    The weddings in Feb.
Has any one ever made one ??
    Is it hard.
I’m needing help here so please any input would be great

    • ANSWER:
If you know how to crochet or if you have someone that knows how to, you could have one made for you from hairpin or broom stick lace. I can give you the site to teach you how to do either one. I have used both of these types of crochet and they are beautiful and I can give you the site to see them. Since your gown is lace I would suggest you use a very fine thread or go to a craft store and look at both the yarn and the thread selection. Also I checked and if you want to buy here are some sites you may want to check out or e-mail me for some sites for patterns for the lace boleros. If there is any way I can help you let me know and I may also be able to help you with the design if need be.

  16. QUESTION:
Is a lace bolero appropriate for a wedding?
I see a lot of them on bridal websites, so I’m not sure if it would be perceived as ‘upstaging the bride’ or somesuch. I’m thinking something like this:

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/62658313/radar-black-bolero-renaissance-romantic?ref=sr_gallery_7&ga_search_submit=&ga_search_query=black+lace+bolero&ga_search_type=all&ga_facet=

In one of the weddings, I’m a bridesmaid; in another, I’m a guest.
A black dress is a requirement, at least in the case of the bridesmaid wedding.

    • ANSWER:
      both are gorgeous!

i don’t think it would be – lots of women love the strapless look but have this thing about showing their arms off and boleros and the like are a great way to get the look without baring all!if you’re a maid in one of them,i would show the bride and ask her opinion (from a B2B’s POV,i wouldn’t mind a maid wearing something like this but i would like to OK it,if you get my drift).as for the wedding where you’re a guest,i’ve seen plenty of women wear boleros or other little jackets,it seems to be the norm, especially for a church wedding where it is considered good manners to cover your arms

  19. QUESTION:
Whats a good alternative to the over-used bolero?
I’ve seen so many wedding gowns with those little boleros and while I think they look nice, they are just so over-used. Do you have any suggestions on a good alternative? A shawl is too complicated and heavy to match with a long veil. Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
Forget the bolero, it will just give you “heavy” look.
What’s the neckline design of your gown anyway? If you have V-neck or off shoulder or halter then a bolero or shawl is tacky otherwise you’d look like “royal” if you’re tall and your gown and bolero is similar to this: http://images.della.com/wc/fash/dressimages/Fashion_BridalGown_HDBA_456_664.jpg

      Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

  21. QUESTION:
How hard is sewing a bolero?
I’m a beginner… and I’m interested in sewing a bolero out of either satin or lace (bridal). My wedding dress is strapless and I wanted something to cover up a little. I thought that would be appropriate.

My question: Is this possible? Given the fact that I can only sew pillows and curtains? haha Or any suggestions for an easy to follow pattern?

    • ANSWER:
You’ve picked a couple of really non-beginnerish fabrics to work on.

Satin tends to pucker when sewn, needlemarks (so you can’t use pins on the part you see, or do much unstitching) and often watermarks during pressing. It’s also a difficult to cut fabric for many people.. it really needs to be cut on paper to obtain accurately cut pieces to sew together.

Lace, likewise, has some difficulties. Depending on the type of lace, you may need to use hairline seams, very narrow french seams, or you may wind up altering the pattern to suit the lace motifs and appliquing the seam — this is particularly true with venise and similarly heavy laces.

Both of these, imo, would be best left to an experienced seamstress for your wedding dress.

I’m going to suggest something different… would you consider a bolero of tulle (bridal veil netting) or organza (sheer fabrics that aren’t that hard to work with) with lace motifs appliqued to the jacket after construction? You can also add pearls, crystals or other decorations to the lace this way.

If so, find a pattern you like and go play with the tulle or organza. Learn how to do hairline seams (tulle) or french seams (tulle or organza) on the extra, and then cut and sew the jacket. Don’t like how it turned out? Buy a little more fabric and try again (both organza and tulle are dirt cheap, on the scale of bridal fabrics. (Silk organza, btw, is much nicer to work with than poly organza.)) Buy some lace that goes with any lace that’s already on your dress, and cut out the motifs from the lace that you want to use and place them on the jacket, and hand stitch them into place with silk thread and add any decorations you wish.

Books to read: Claire Shaeffer’s Couture Sewing Techniques; Roberta Carr’s Couture: The Art of Fine Sewing, and Susan Khalje’s Bridal Couture. You’re looking for hairline and french seams, and the information on working with sheer fabrics and with lace. Claire Shaeffer’s Sew Any Fabric also has the seam information and suggestions.

      http://www.bestofneworleans.com/dispatch/2007-01-16/lim_men2.php

The next to the last photo is of a tulle veil with lace applique, to give you an idea of the treatment. Both the lace at the hemline and the isolated motif are appliqued to the tulle.

You could actually sew lace fabric with the same techniques as the tulle or organza, but nice laces tend to be so expensive that I’d hate to see you make a mistake with 0/yd lace. On the other hand, appliqueing lace to tulle or organza can make /yd lace trim or a quarter of a yard of expensive lace fabric look *very* couture.

They offer this one as an option that would work well…

I would personally do something a little more simple as to not detract from the dress – any bolero jacket or stole/shrug in matching purples, silver or black would be fine. Just match your shoes and bag with it too. Here’s another stole/shrug that would work…

  26. QUESTION:
would a wedding shrug look right with a one tier veil?
hi i am getting married in january in scotland and i have a strapless wedding dress and it had just dawned on me that it is going to be cold. so i was looking on ebay for shrug, shawls bolero jackets but i don’t no which one to get because i am wearing a veil. so what do you all think? oh an my dress is quite a biggish one with a long train which has red in it.

    • ANSWER:
I LIVE in Scotland so I know what you mean re the cold however im not sure about a veil and a shrug really, I would think one or the other.

What to do is take your veil with you to a shop and try on a SHruG from like monsoon or something and see what you think for yourself. If you really need something I would think more of a nice pashmina that you could kind of drape round your arms.

Im sure you have braved many a saturday night out here – go on you can do it!

  28. QUESTION:
Do bolero jackets make a bust look larger or smaller?
I’m going to be a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding this May and we all have matching dresses. They’re silk halters, just a little longer than knee length, and beautiful! The bride picked out bolero jackets (cropped jackets) for us to wear during the ceremony.

My chest is quite large (34DD) and so I would like to know if these types of jackets make your bust larger or smaller, so I know whether to wear a regular halter bra or a padded halter bra. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
They will make your body look shorter, so whatever your bust size(34dd is not huge) i think personally it will look fine provided your arms are not huge.

  34. QUESTION:
What to wear to cousins wedding?
    Well….
My cousin is getting married in August and well of course since I am blood I will be in most of the photos and I need to look good LOL.
I am wearing a tailored satin light pink dress and a light pink lace bolero, I am clueless to what Fascinator and shoes/clutch to wear – I need help PLEASE !

    • ANSWER:
Answer: First of all, don’t upstage the couple. That means don’t wear white, don’t be tempted to go more formal than you think the couple will be, and don’t dress to call excessive attention to yourself (e.g. a super short miniskirt or a sequined tie.) After that caveat, try to dress appropriately for the time of day and the setting. A Sunday afternoon wedding generally means a coat and tie (perhaps with light-colored slacks) and flowing dresses. An evening wedding calls for a suit, or coat and tie with dark slacks. Unless the invitation specifically calls for it, never wear blue jeans, even if the invite says casual. Casual in this case means your best casual, not your weekend at home casual

  37. QUESTION:
is it ok to wear a black dress to a wedding?
i have been looking around for dresses, and cannot find one that i like…or feel comfortable in…then i found a VERY VERY nice black dress…square neckline, straps so i can wear a regular bra, and goes to the knee…is this suitable for a wedding?? Also comes with a bolero shall like thing…HELP!!

    • ANSWER:
When there’s nothing else to wear,a little black dress should always be the go-to outfit. It’s simple but classic and you can make it look anyway you want with accessories.
If you don’t want to look like you’re going to a funeral or something, play with color.
Try wearing yellow, neutral, turquoise,or gold shoes and accessories instead of just black.Red might be too bold for a wedding.

That is a great dress for a wedding :D It’s beautiful and I think it would be fine is you wore nude stockings. Nude stocking will make your legs look healthier and good. 43. QUESTION:
What color bolero should my mom wear with her navy mother of the bride dress?
My mother has purchased a navy like (technically the color is “marine”) formal dress to wear to my wedding. The issue is that it is the same color as my two bridesmaids. I don’t have a problem with it as long as i can make her look different than the bridesmaids. They are wearing the same color sheer cover up, so I was thinking of putting a silver satin bolero on her. The wedding is in September and has a light fall/sunflower theme to it. I’ve gotten mixed opinions on this. What do you think?

    • ANSWER:
before reading the description silver is what i thought first of
i feel other good options would be white lace, or black sequins
or you could get something custom made with some patters of different blues and maybe a bit of nude
would navy crochet be too similar to ur bridesmaids?

  48. QUESTION:
What to wear with satin mocha color cocktail dress?
I will be a wedding guest soon and I have one satin cocktail dress of mocha color. Since the wedding is in November, cold… I would need some top, shawl, bolero… anything to cover my shoulders but stay elegant. It is very hard to fit anything with this color. Please, help.

    • ANSWER:
Maybe a gold-tone shawl, or try cream. Cream goes with brown tones very well and won’t clash with the bride.

  49. QUESTION:
What colour accesories to wear with a satin cream dress?
Im going to a wedding on Saturday and have just purchased a lovely cream satin coast dress from e-bay, was thinking of wearing either a pashmina or bolero jacket with it, but what colour to go for, does anyone have ideas? I have dark brown hair, was thinking of dark chocolate brown?

    • ANSWER:
hi…it depends on the color of your skin, time and motif of the wedding…

if the wedding is in the morning, your accessories should not be too dark…just wear something that would give a light contrast to your cream dress…an earth-like shade of gold would be nice. example, for an elegant sophisticated look, you might want to wear a simple medium-gold bolero or shawl paired with an elegant gold earing and a watch or a bracelet.
no need to wear a necklace.

if its in the afternoon or at night, thats the time you should wear a darker contrast. this is the time when you should try on that dark chocolate bolero.

  50. QUESTION:
What to wear with a black one shoulder dress?

Other than wearing a pashmina or wrap what else would suit it? Would a bolero or shrug look ok with it?

The dress is tea length and slightly flared on the bottom and has a bow on the shoulder strap.

    Thanks
And yes.. i do know that black is not exactly the ideal colour to wear to a wedding. Its too late to find another dress and I have a lot of trouble finding one that fits (i’ve looked on the high street, designer shops and online!).

    • ANSWER:
I think a pashmina it´s the best option.
