      For CHEAP venues- look west!
      I got married last year in the Pan Pacific Peace Gardens at Redbank it costs nothing to book the gardens for a wedding and they have a seated chapel for ceremonies (unroofed) and a LARGE covered BBQ area on the other side of the lake from the chapel. The BBQ area will sit 60 comfortably, for 80 it would be a bit of a squeeze.
      As it is a remote park you are not likely to be bothered by local hooligans either and the chapel is nice and shady!
      Council is agreeable to setting up marquees for the reception (you have to provide these) and there are wheelchair accessible toilets.
      To book the park you need to phone Ipswich Council- I can’t remember the number and as I am using hubbies computer(he has my laptop at work with him!) I don’t have the webpage bookmarked!

      Downsides- no electricity, summer storms, close to train line (and I mean CLOSE!) park closes early so any reception would have to wind up fairly early.

He made my wedding so fun, so exciting & so very memorable!!

      Wedding Limo: The Best Limo service I found was a limo company called “A Dynasty Limo” in Downers Grove. (815-577-7705) They were on time, friendly, easy to work with, my bridal party LOVED riding in their limo.

      We also rented a Photo Booth from The Fun Ones in Addison. (www.TheFunOnes.com) Their phone number is 630-495-3200. That was a very nice touch. Everyone loved getting their pictures taken in the photobooth. Their prices were great. Our event planner Scott was so knowledgeable & easy to work with. We used the photo booth for our “guest book”. When our guests first arrived, they would have their picture taken in the photobooth, they would keep one copy, then put the other copy “in” our guestbook & then wrote a note to us next to their picture. It was such a great idea.

      Tuxedos: Regarding Tuxedos, we decided to go with a smaller company “Lorenzo’s” in Lisle (630-983-7771) and we are so glad we did. Vince was amazing to work with. They have great prices, a great selection & they do in-house alterations. My fiance loved working with Vince.

      I don’t know what’s available in Belfast, but I’m getting married around Columbia, MD. We, too, are bringing in our own caterer to do a buffet style dinner and chose a historic, county-owned mansion where we can have the dinner outside. It was a LOT cheaper than other venues (like hotels) we looked into and it has a lot of charm. I would suggest looking into something like that, a county-owned or public property. Even a public place like a state park would work for bringing in your own food.

    We are having a small wedding with about 75 guests. Although not the cheapest options, there are a few things we’d really like to keep (but not necessary), such as a Saturday evening wedding with an open bar or possibly pick up the tab since it’s a small group. Are there any ways at all to have a small 10k wedding in season?
    We were looking to start planning next year for some time in August/September of 2012. For unique….we were looking at things like chartering a boat or having it at the transportation museum in brookline, ma….which all proved to be somewhat too expensive. We thought it would be interesting to look around the museum at see the vehicles. But in general, we were looking for something not so elegant and classy, but possible more modern and contemporary.

The best way to save money is to do the wedding and reception at the same location, and even more ideal is having the guests be able to stay at the same location that evening. My friend just pulled off a wedding in August with 140 people on the cape for a little under 6K…. her trick? Keep things simple. Have an open bar, yes, but it doesn’t have to be open for the entire celebration. She had a 2 hour (or 1 1/2 hour) open bar just after the wedding but before the reception where appetizers were served and everyone got some drinks…. and only have one bartender. it keeps people in the line and staying busy talking, and seriously cuts down on the amount of alcohol served. Make dinner simple but Delicious… having fancy food is had to eat, you get messy, and someone always gets sick. If you keep it simple they get served, they eat, and move on to dancing and enjoying themselves.
      Great indoor locations you can jazz up ina hurry – A Barn, A winery, A distillery, A marina…

      Try public buildings maybe through your parks and rec department or go for an off-season or off day. I was married on a Friday of a holiday weekend. Everyone was off (minus one guest) already and we saved nearly K for having it on a Friday at lunch time. A Sunday afternoon wedding was available at the same price. I’d also REALLY scale back the guest list. That alone would save you a ton of money – table linens, tables, chairs, invitations, postage, china rentals, drinks, food and take-home gifts get very expensive when you multiply it by 50 people who are invited just because you felt pressured.

      If you’re looking for some places then I’d suggest the Knights of Columbus on Prosperity Rd (Va Beach). The 67th Street Shore (they’re pretty cheap). Redwing Park off of General Boothe in Va Beach (they have special events and such and it’s rather cheap not to mention gorgeous if you want it outdoors). Ramada Inne on 39th St. They do alot of weddings and they’re not overly pricey.

      I’ve been researching in Charlotte, which is where I will be having my wedding. I know Catawba is not exactly right there but very close. In fact, I checked out the Botanical gardens there, but decided that is out of my price range. The cheapest place just for a wedding is St. Mary’s Chapel, if you want a church wedding that is. It is 0, and is located in uptown Charlotte..so you would have to worry about parking.

      Other places are the local parks, if you want to do it outside. I would check out the Waterfront Deck if it is going to be a small affair. It holds about 50, probably more if just for a standing ceremony.

      I am personally really considering the Colonel Beatty Park facility. It has an outdoor wedding site overlooking a lake, and the rental comes with use of a beautiful building, tables, chairs, equipped with electricity, A/C, kitchen for a caterer, restrooms. You can take a 360 tour online. It is like 0 for the first hour then about for each additional hour. So, about 0 bucks for the whole thing reception and all. But, if you think about doing all the cold appetizers yourself, or bringing in hot food from local grocer deli and catering yourself, this could be sooo affordable. Congrats on the wedding!

      I’m afraid I’m a bit out of the loop these days price-wise, but you might look into the Holiday Inn San Diego on the Bay. It’s located on the coast just a minute from downtown. Close to the airport, too.

      They have an outdoor terrace that accommodates up to 800 for receptions. Multiple packages offered. Includes stuff like centerpieces, discounts for guests, champagne, even the wedding cake. Oh, and a honeymoon suite for the lucky couple, of course.

      Check parks in your area to have an outdoor wedding. You’d be surprised how beautiful some areas are and how cheap they are to rent for a few hours. There are many gazebos or awnings to have a lovely ceremony in. We even have a band shell at one of the parks in my city where my brother got married.

      My sister is getting married on the steps in front of a beautiful stone gazebo at our local park. It only cost to rent the area, including all the benches for the guests! Doesn’t get much better than that.

      If an outdoor wedding is out of the question for you, stay away from churches because those can cost quite a bit (not to mention you may have to be part of the church to get married in it). My advice is to check out town halls in your area – you can get married and have a reception in the same place, which is usually the cheapest way to go. Good luck!

      Go on craigslist and look for mansions. You can have it indoors or outdoors and bring your own catering. We live in CA and our wedding is going to be outdoors. We rented a very beautiful mansion and our wedding is going to take place in the garden with 120 guests. It was 00 for three days! you should go for a catering company that has delicious food, but is barely starting up. That way you get it for a very cheap price. We’re doing that as well, but he is a good friend of ours. Less than 2k! Good luck.
