After choosing your bridal gown the most important and probably one of the most difficult decisions you’ll have to make is choosing the bridesmaids dresses. Your wedding party girls come in different shapes and sizes. What looks great on one looks not so great on the other. Since your bridal party attendants will most likely be paying for their own dresses, choose styles and fabrics they can wear again.
Styles
One of the easiest styles for almost anyone to wear is an A line which is narrower at the shoulders, skims the body, and is wider at the floor. Most figure flaws are hidden when the dress is made with a fluid fabric.
Another dress that flatters most wearers is the slip dress. Keep embellishments in the accessories and these two styles are currently fashionable and most probably will be in the future. Both of these styles can be hemmed to cocktail length without ruining the lines for wearing later.
Strapless dresses are the rage right now, but are not easy for everyone to wear. Both small and full figured women do not look their very best in a strapless style. A draped neckline on a sleeveless dress gives the same impression as a strapless dress but is more forgiving.
Keep comfort in mind. The average wedding ceremony, travel to and from, and the reception lasts about five hours. That’s a long time to be stuck in a dress that pinches, irritates, or just does not feel right.
Color Run
If you are lucky your bridesmaids have all agreed that the style you have chosen, or that they have convinced you to choose, looks good on them. What may be the stumbling block is the color. One color may not work for all of your bridesmaids. The solution is a color run: The same dress in various colors.
One alternative is to keep the color palette all in the same family say pastels, deep jewel tones, or various shades of a color, say pinks. If certain colors are just not acceptable to you make sure your bridesmaids know that when they order. Or have them select the color in the bridal salon for your approval.
Same Color Different Dress
When the bridesmaids have wildly different figures, one is tall, one is short, one full figured, one thin and so forth, there may be no one style of dress that looks good on all of them. There is a solution and that is for you to choose the color and fabric and for each bridesmaid to choose the style of the dress. It is okay for you to lay down some ground rules such as no ball gown styles, dresses must have sleeves, or no embellishments such as embroidery, sequins, or crystals. The same dress different color also allows bridesmaids on a tighter budget to choose a dress that matches the others but is less expensive. Again ordering all the dresses at one sitting may save future problems. And you’ll know that each dress has actually been ordered.
Two Piece (and we’re not talking bathing suits)
The latest fashion trend in bridesmaid dresses is two pieces or separates. The top and skirt are chosen and fitted separately. For example: narrow hipped but full figured women can choose a size 8 for the skirt and size 12 for the top. Other alternatives include choosing the same skirt style but allowing each bridesmaid to choose the blouse or top of her dress.
Most brides choose two colors for their wedding. Those colors can be combined in the bridesmaid dresses. Or a light and dark shade of the same color can be chosen. If purple is your color the colors could be a deep rich amethyst and lighter lavender. The dark color would hide figures flaws and the light color accentuates positive attributes. Sashes, different necklines, and sleeve choices allow your bridesmaids to choose dresses that make each of them look terrific.
Tying the Knot at the Top
A fashion innovation is the Six Ways to Tie the Knot Top. It is pure genius. The top can be tied as a halter, off one shoulder, cap sleeve look, strapless, under the bust line for an empire effect, and wrapped around the bodice. Each member of your wedding party will look coordinated and show off her figure at the same time.
Different Dresses Or All The Same
Selecting the attire for your wedding party can be fun for both you and your bridesmaids. Don’t get stuck in the old fashioned rut that every bridesmaid has to look alike. A little creativity will add to the festivities. Your wedding attendants will be happier knowing that this isn’t one bridesmaid dress that gets stuck in the closet to never to come out again.

QUESTION:
What colour bridesmaid dresses would match a Champagne coloured Wedding Dress?
Im bridesmaid for my sister and her Wedding dress is a champagne colour, any ideas for nice colours for the bridesmaid dresses that would be nice with champagne. Thanks-
ANSWER:
When you look at the spring collections for 09, you will see that one of the hottest color combinations for brides who don’t want the “white” wedding is black and champagne. This combination is truly stunning and I think you will even see more of it in the fall collections as well.
If black is too dark, then consider a light blue. French blue and gold have long been a color combination that makes a very opulent statement. Best of luck to you and your sister.

QUESTION:
Last night i dreamt of coloured wedding dresses. What does this mean?
I almost always have significant dreams and i usually look them up, dreammoods.com doesn’t seem to be helping lately. There’s only so much a website can do. Well last nights dream from what i remember is that i was on some trip away from home and i was driving around in a truck with this man.. we start driving through a farm field and suddenly it jumps to me and i lady. I’m on the dock she is in the water I just stare as the water is at her chest and i worry she will drowned. She convinces me to come in.. I take off my socks but i don’t remember if i got in.. but I know if i went in it would be much deeper. And at another part of my dream i saw coloured wedding dresses.-
ANSWER:
I praise God for granting you significant dreams. Yes, they have significance most of the time unless they occur by the busy-ness of your mind or your disturbed/agitated mind. The dream means that you are going to get an opportunity to serve from a very responsible position from which you can help many others who are in deep trouble. The opportunity is probably from a Church or mission group. Prepare yourself now whether you will get yourself into it to help those in need or you are going to stand and just watch.
Also, I would advise you not to just randomly search for your dream interpretation. It is for God to reveal a secret and hence, ask the Lord to reveal it to you. He will reveal it to you when you ask Him – the delay is just your asking.
God bless!

QUESTION:
If you are wearing a coral color wedding dress, what color dresses should bridesmaids dresses be?-
ANSWER:
If you are going with coral, this sounds summer and tropical to me. Black just isn’t right at all.I’d say either a bright green or a bright blue. A pattern would be great but I think something light and airy. Something tropical and bold. Coral was one of my wedding colors–kinda more on the tangerine side of coral–and I used turquoise as my second color.
You are wearing a coral dress. I don’t think you need to make your bridesmaids bland to pop. After all it’s CORAL. You are going to pop out in the pictures anyway.

QUESTION:
does anyone know where to find decent champagne/ivory or light gold/ivory wedding dresses online?
im looking for an online wedding gown store that sells ivory/light gold or ivory and champagne colored wedding dresses and wedding dress colors similar to those. also i was wondering about help with bridesmaid/floral and jewelery help. pretty much everything down to the flower girl and hairstyles…thanks.-

You should look at eBay. Many gowns are made overseas, in China and cane be made in any color your heart desires! I got mine off eBay, and it cost me 0 with shipping. The quality is great, the fabric is the softest satin, and it looked exactly like the picture! It’s a Moda Sposa knockoff, and the original gown would’ve cost me over ,000! Also, The Knot has some great ideas for your bridal party. I am pretty much buying everything off eBay! My flower girl dresses only cost me ! I don’t know what your budget is, but look into it. It might just free up some moolah for your honeymoon!

QUESTION:
What colour wedding dresses do you think are ok to use, other than white/ivory?-
ANSWER:
Any color! Mine was a sandy-champagne color and my wedding was on the beach so it was perfect. I tried on an awesome green dress but decided on the champagne instead cuz my mom helped me pick it out. I also went to a friends wedding where her’s was red & white & black. I love different colors and even if green and red dresses sound aweful when you picture it in your head, you can make anything classy and it’s good to be different!

QUESTION:
Where can I find burgundy/wine colored wedding dresses on-line?
My fiancé and I are not very traditional people so we’ve decided to throw out most of the wedding traditions. The white wedding dress is one of the traditions that is being thrown out the window. Burgundy is my favorite color so I’m pretty set on having a burgundy/wine colored wedding dress. I’ve looked at bridesmaid dresses and they just won’t cut it for me – I want it to really look like a wedding dress. If I had more sewing experience, I would likely just make it. In fact, if I can’t find something that I would be happy with, I will probably make an attempt at making it despite my lack of knowledge in this department. But that’s a last resort kind of thing – I would really prefer to find one already made.
So, really, I have two questions which are associated…
Can anyone direct me to some web sites with burgundy/wine colored wedding gowns?
or, if not,
Can anyone give me information (book titles, web sites, just general tips) on how I could make my own wedding dress?
I have looked on ebay and most of the local shops only do more traditional wedding dresses. I have not tried the classified ads, however… thanks for the suggestion.-
ANSWER:
have you tried eBay or your local classifieds or only shops that do unusual clothing???

QUESTION:
What do you think of wedding dresses in color?
I’m getting married next year I designed and I’m making my own wedding dress,Since this is both of our second wedding we want to be a little untraditional. If you think about it,when your looking for a wedding dress in a differant color then white, off white or ivory and maybe black all you can find is prom dresses.your wedding should be exactly what you want. And for the untraditional bride I think there should be beautiful wedding gowns in shades from the lightest pink to the darkest blue what do you think?-
ANSWER:
I have seen 1st-time brides use color in their dress.Second marriages use to be done quitely & without much a-do. But not anymore! You have lost love and found it again. I think that calls for a celebration!
Do the wedding however you want, in whatever color you want.
It is advised that a 2nd-time bride not wear a veil. I don’t necessarily go along with this, but I do think the veil covering the face should be reserved for the 1st-time bride. But that’s just my opinion. With you sewing your dress, you have sooooo many options. Have you chosen a design/pattern yet? (email me!) I made my first wedding dress, but then, there were only about 3 wedding dress patterns then.
Good luck with your planning & Congratulations!

QUESTION:
Flower/wedding colors for a summer wedding with a champagne gown and taupe and champagne bm dresses?
I am getting married next august and my gown is champagne satin. The bridesmaids may be wearing taupe colored dresses with champagne accents. Our reception is being held in a ballroom with a fairly dark decor, ivory walls but the carpeting looks to be a mix of tan, deep gold, navy, and maybe burgundy. What types of flowers or centerpieces colors can I use that will still make it seem like a summery wedding, but won’t clash?-
ANSWER:
I would think that burnt orange, reds and yellows would blend well with that decor – but still give it a somewhat summery feeling. Of course, you can always go with a simple white and champagne color – that would look nice as well.
I would try looking at some pictures of ballrooms with darker decor. Does your ballroom have a website? Maybe they have some pictures of past events posted on the site so you can get some ideas as to what works well with that decor. Here are a few pictures that you might find helpful. QUESTION:
What are the ‘proper’ colors for wedding dresses?
I know white was for untouched brides.. but there were other colors for brides that weren’t so pure. Seems kinda archaic these days but I’m curious about this particular antiquated etiquette.
Not getting married.. Just remember hearing my moms aunts talking about it when I was little-
ANSWER:
Colour, style and ceremonial importance of the gown depends on the religion and culture of the participants. In western culture, white or cream is the preferred colour dating back to 1840 when Queen Victoria married Prince Albert wearing white. Prior to then, brides could wear any colour except black (the colour of mourning) or red (associated with harlots). In China and India, red is the traditional colour although many brides are now wearing white. There was a poem about the colours of the wedding dress.
Married in white, you will have chosen all right.
Married in grey , you will go far away.
Married in black, you will wish yourself back.
Married in red, you’ll wish yourself dead.
Married in blue, you will always be true.
Married in pearl, you’ll live in a whirl.
Married in green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in yellow, ashamed of the fellow.
Married in brown, you’ll live out of town.
Married in pink, your spirits will sink.

QUESTION:
wedding dress and bridemaids dresses colour?
I need your advice/help. I will be getting married in next July 2011 at hotel in UK. I will wear wedding dress colour ivory satin or orgeanic so do you think it would nice to choose colour: light green with strap light plum or purple satin or chiffon? I really hope to hearing from you asap, thank you very much
-
ANSWER:
With it being in July I’d use light green. I’m not sure what color purple you mean in the purple satin but usually that’s not a good look. Satin usually makes people look fatter plus in summer it is very hot. Dark colors are more winter colors as well.So I’d stick with the light green.

QUESTION:
Other than white, have you seen some pretty wedding dresses in other colors?
I am thinking of having either an all black, black and white, all red, or red and black wedding dress. For those of you who are a tad adventurous–basically not an open question to those who want to write negative remarks–what other colors other than white would you consider for a wedding dress? It doesn’t have to be as drastic as my choices (my friend was married in yellow). I am just curious.-

I’ve seen a custom made bridal gown that was fuschia! It was gorgeous, and I loved it because it has never been done before out of all the weddings I’ve been to. The colors you selected sounds good. As long as the dress is fabulous then to hell everyone else girl!

QUESTION:
I have a royal blue princess style wedding dress, what colour should the bridesmaide dresses be?
My two bridesmaides have very different body shapes, 1 is slim but very booby. 2 is larger and bottom heavy.Do you know what shape/style dress might suite them both?
Or a colour, I think Navy would look good, with maybe a sapphire blue sash……but open to any ideas.
The wedding is Peacock, Sapphire themed.
Thankyou
-
ANSWER:
Just wanted to say that I recently went to a wedding with a peacock theme and it was rather lovely! I love the idea of the navy blue dresses with a saphire blue sash, sounds beautiful to me! But I just wanted to point out that maybe the bridesmaids could wear different style dresses with the same sash and length of dress. Maybe the two dresses can be the fabric as well… but just different. No two bodies are ever alike so I am not surprised that you have run into this problem. I would say to tell your maids the general idea you have for their dress and let them do the rest! For afterall, no one will know their bodies better than themselves. Good luck and have fun planning!

ANSWER:
Colored dresses are very common in other parts of the world. It was only since the mid-1800s that white was even considered since no one before Queen Victoria’s time wore white to marry in. The royals wore silver. She introduced it as a symbol of wealth since no one else could afford such an impractical color that would never be worn again for any reason. Then later, it became fashionable to follow in her footsteps but they changed the meaning of white to mean purity when it had never symbolized that before at any time. If you wanted people to know you were pure and virginal, you wore blue. In many cultures, white is the symbol of death and mourning, not something to be worn by a bride. Which is why they wear red since it symbolizes love and passion. As far as brides who were not well-to-do during Queen Victoria’s time and prior, they wore their best dress they already owned, which was usually a jewel-toned color (red, blue, green, etc). So colored dresses are not a recent trend, despite what many people want you to believe.Even today, colored dresses are popular in England and Australia. If you go to a Renaissance faire, you will be hard pressed to find any bride there wearing white since white was not worn by commoners or royals back then.
That said, white and ivory aren’t flattering on most people even though they are the mainstream options and if you don’t like those, you have to get quite creative. Although most people would tell you that “it’s all your imagination that white doesn’t look good on you since it’s flattering on everyone and you won’t be properly and legally married if you don’t wear it.”
If someone wants to wear a colored dress, then they should do that. It’s their wedding, their body, their choice. If someone doesn’t like it, they don’t have to attend the wedding and they can wear whatever they wish when it’s their turn. No one’s opinion but your own matters in this case.
Personally I don’t own anything white, ivory or light colored simply because they are not flattering on me and I don’t like how they look on me. They look great on other people but I’m not comfortable with them. So it doesn’t make any sense for me to wear a white or ivory gown, especially when other people even agree that those colors don’t work with my skintone.

ANSWER:
When is your wedding, i.e., which month? My brother’s fiance is using chocolate brown (that beautiful, really warm brown) for bridesmaids and ivory for her wedding dress. It’s an October wedding. I think you should consider how the colors will look on all the peeps in the wedding party–does it enhance everyone, for the most part, like that……you may also try to find something that’ll be “timeless”, not too trendy or (trust me, I’ve been married 14 yrs.) the wedding photos will SCREAM the year they were taken. Look at wedding photos (vintage) for inspiration, e.g. Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly.
Just my thoughts, Good luck and blessing for a wonderful, lifelong marriage!

QUESTION:
Need suggestions for petite beach bride dresses. It would be a second wedding.?
What companies have petite beach bride dresses. It will be a second wedding for the both of us. We want to be married on the beach in the Caribbean. The wedding will be simple. I am 50, but am in great shape and look young. I’m 5’1″. What color wedding dress would be appropriate or does any color go. I don’t know if a long or short dress would be appropriate.-
ANSWER:
How about a sundress? You can wear any colour you like (including white). Any colours go, up to you. White is simply a popular Western bridal colour, you can wear any colour you like. Beach weddings typically have light long flowing dresses but some brides have short gowns. You could also consider a light pantsuit or tea length dress.
If you want to seem more casual and less “wedding”, then go for a coloured simple sundress or paintsuit. As for the length, short is typically more casual, but you may not consider it appropriate for your age. This is entirely up to you, the length of gown.
If you go with a white sundress, you can make it more “beachy” and casual by adding aqua coloured jewellery.

If you want to go with a formal beach wedding gown, you can choose from “destination wedding” gowns. Some designers offer petite sizes, otherwise you will need alterations. Some designers also offer coloured gowns, if you are going for something a little different.

QUESTION:
Okay…I need to know, is it wrong to wear an Ivory coloured wedding dress …?
My fiance says that I’m going to make a whole heck of a lot of people angry “because you are supposed to wear white” for your first wedding. Is that true? Are there any superstitions associated with wearing Ivory instead of White?
we have three kids…innocence and virginity are not words I know much about anymore…lol !-
ANSWER:
No it’s not wrong! Ivory is a perfectly normal and beautiful color for a wedding dress. I personally picked Ivory because we are marrying in the fall, and our ceremony and reception will be kind of dim as it is in the evening. Nowadays the bride has the freedom to do almost anything with the wedding. You should pick your dress based on how YOU feel, and how YOU want the wedding to go. All that superstitious stuff is a little outdated if you ask me!

QUESTION:
Summer Wedding Colors and Dresses?
I’m getting married in June and I have a few thoughts on summer colors. I’m initially thinking blue/purple, blue/yellow, or pink/green. I thought that summer colors were supposed to be more pastel, but now I’m learning that brighter colors are recommended? Also, my wedding dress won’t be plain white, I’m wearing white with a color accent (haven’t picked the color yet). Should my bridesmaids’ dresses match my color accent or should they be in the complementary color on my color palette?-
ANSWER:
great article on wedding colors:http://www.localnews8.com/Global/story.asp?S=8285513
I’d go with bridesmaids matching your accent.
