Mistakes And Miscommunication

Throughout the wedding process, there are many different people that you have to communicate with. There’s the florist, the bridal shop, the caterers, the minister, and the decorator. With all of the people involved in planning the wedding, it’s no wonder that miscommunications and mistakes are common.

If your florist calls you the morning of your wedding to inform you that they no longer have roses available, or if the caterers are an hour late with the cake, the important thing to do is take it in stride and negotiate the best alternative that you can. After all, these things are only minor parts of the wedding. Being patient and flexible will help you to enjoy your wedding day even more!

The most comprehensive free wedding planning checklists are those that address the needs of the couples who start planning their wedding twelve months in advance. Most such free wedding planning checklists are built on sections in reverse chronological order: that is from the moment you start planning to the final days before the wedding. This functions like some sort of general checklists that can be afterwards completed with more detailed and specific free wedding planning checklists. Not only the bride, but the groom and the parents are involved in the complex construction of this exciting project.

I didn’t need any magazines or planning books during my engagement. The magazines are basically just advertisements for wedding gowns and useless products. Don’t waste your money on these things .. rely on the free websites and use a binder/notebook and a folder to make notes and hold onto your contracts and receipts.

  19. QUESTION:
Are there any websites that have wedding stuff donated?

Ask around- check on craigt’s list.

  20. QUESTION:
What are some things that you can get free for your wedding?
I saw somewhere that someone was giving advice to their crazy friend about her wedding and this girl wrote about getting some stuff for free. I was just wondering what that stuff may be? I’m assuming not much, but hey, let me know if you know!
Yeah, I don’t EXpect free stuff, don’t get me wrong. I just thought I’d ask~ you never know!! Thanks for all the answers so far!

    • ANSWER:
Normally it’s a package deal….. like we have a cater and she is giving us certian things for free… our DJ, centerpieces, cake and decorations are all free and included in her cost. Also she picks up the rental fee for the hall. Granted it’s ,000 for 150 people but it helps to get all the perks for free because they do add up. When talking to a cater ask them what they will give you… do I get a free cake? do you supply a DJ? Basically, my friend is doing it backwards and buying all the small crap first and booking the big stuff later- I was telling her to book the big stuff and see if you can find a person to give you the little stuff. Like don’t buy the cake before you book the cater cause a good cater should either give your a free cake or a huge discount.

    • ANSWER:
I have a couple ideas that I hope will be helpful and ignite your creativity!

I love planning parties, weddings, any type of event.

      1) Favors

You can place your favors in a nice setting at the entrance to make a “Wow” impact.

      –Example– http://embellishoccasions.tripod.com/main2.jpg

Depending on your color scheme, you can get cute boxes for these favors that match it.

      –Example– http://www.favorideas.com/shopping/prod/GS65657.htm
      –Example– http://www.the-wedding-printer.com/black-ivory-flourish-favor-boxes-p-732.html

      2) Place Card Holders

Why have a regular place card holder in the shape of a tent, when you can put each guests name in a picture frame that they can take home?

      –Example– http://www.buycheapweddingfavors.com/DesignDescription.asp?ProductID=PR061606174759JeNRwSgYuqIiBRD09653&ReferringID=CWFGoogleBase

      3) Reception Centerpieces

Keeping them lower to the table makes it easier for conversation to be had more smoothly.

      –Example– http://www.onesourceweddings.net/WeddingDecorationsHomepage/Rec_Guest_Table_Centerpieces/Monica–White-Centerpiece.jpg

      4) Get a guest book with a running theme. Make sure it matches your flower basket, ring bearer pillow, etc.

      –Example– http://www.myjeanm.com/engine.cfm?iCatID=46668
      –Example– http://www.myjeanm.com/engine.cfm?iCatID=46666

      5) Invitations

The new big thing is having folders for invitations, such as this in the example. They come in many different styles and colors, versatile for your wedding theme.

      –Example– http://www.rexcraft.com/WE_ViewEns.cfm?prev=1&TempPrev=0&blnPreviewRequestSubmitted=0&recordsperpage=33&CompletedOrder=0&sBasketID=0&sItemCode=WedEns8049&FromHome=1&Search_intTotalSearchLevel=1&Search_strInputString=1Fabulous&Search_strInputKeywords=1fabulous&Search_strItemGroup=&Search_blnAccessoryCategoryPage=0&Search_blnSingle=0&alogo=1&menu=none&morethanonepage=YES&HostDomain=0&FirstTimeThrough=1&option=WE_ViewEns.cfm&format=WedEnsRR&CFID=56625310&CFTOKEN=63367097

      6) Lighting

Some reception halls forbid candles, and that angers many brides. Candles are such a huge symbolism of romance. So… this is why technology is amazing. Here are some LED Votive Candles, amazing, flameless yet realistic-looking candles.

      –Example– http://www.efavormart.com/ledvotivelight-setof12.aspx

      7) Pictures

There are images your photographer won’t be able to capture… so why not let your guests do the job? Place these camera’s on each table with the instruction card telling them what to do. Have a family member collect them at the end of the night and develop the pictures in time for you to see them when you get back from your honeymoon.

Those are just some of the things I already have planned for my own wedding. I don’t know you and I know each bride has specific expectations, but I hope I gave you some ideas of things you would want to do for your special day.

      Congratulations! :)

      –Example– http://www.efavormart.com/silverbellscamera.aspx

  35. QUESTION:
what do you think of parents paying for child collegr , wedding, and lettin them live at homrent free after 18?
I just saw this question and a guy was asking why parents dont pay for this stuff. ANd i was wondering do you think you should if you can afford it. i know my parents wont be paying for that stuff since my mom cant afford it and were lucky to get a child support check from dad that wont bounce. so there for i work to pay for my stuff. But if you can afford it would you?

    • ANSWER:
Seems to that that these are private family decisions.

We plan to pay for our child’s college education. And her wedding, since it’s traditional for the bride’s family to foot the wedding bill.

I’m not sure why turning 18 means home isn’t home anymore.

      To each his own.

      All the best.

  36. QUESTION:
How to market photography for cheap or for free? Get wedding photography clients.?
My name is Brian and I am a recent college graduate. I studied graphic design, photography and printmaking among many other things. I have been trying to get a wedding photography business started but it is slow going. Most of my past work was through referrals and this year was the first bridal show I have ever done. Unfortunately, it was the exact same week as a major auto show and I had overheard someone say that there was 1/10 of the people as there were the year before. YAY, a great time for me to spend a fortune for nothing.
But out of the individuals that were there I got good reactions on my photography and screen prints. Here is a sample of some of my wedding photography.

I want to know if anyone has any ideas to help me market myself, get myself out there. And in a cheap or free way.

there is a small sample of stuff, websites under construction

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Brian,

Starting a photography business is the toughest part, but once you start then you build from there.

I would build a blog, as was suggested above, and post your photography there with updated information about you and what you offer on a regular basis. Let people get to know you.

Joint venture with local businesses like the florists, bridal shops, jewelry stores, caterers, etc, where brides frequent and use the services for their wedding, engagements and bachelor and bachelorette parties, etc. Show your work in these places with your contact info.

Put your mailing piece in with these other businesses to their clients to get your name out and leverage their database of customers.

Join the Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations along with local charities and network with people there. More often then not, there are high powered memebrs in the here who can refer you to others who are looking for what you offer. Don’t try and sell them, just get to authentically know them and business will come your way.

There are a ton of other things you can do but these are just a few to get you started. Be a second shooter and apprentice with other photographers who are looking for help. Learn what they do but interview them and study with those who are successful.

Definitely target the social media sites as was mentioned before like Facebook, Linked-in, Twitter, etc. But you really want to start meeting people in your community who are movers and shakers so they get to know the real you and can confidently refer you.

Be careful about where you get your names for clients as they may be difficult to work with. There are steps to take to qualify your clients but that in itself is another conversation.

  40. QUESTION:
How do I start getting ready for this wedding?
I’m getting ready for my wedding in six months, and was wondering, has anyone heard of this “first-time bride free-for-all”? It’s a program where your wedding planner provides the invitations, dress, bridesmaid dresses, tuxedos, food, the wedding cake, reception hall, music, all of that stuff, and they provide it all for free since it is your first wedding. My friend told me about it last night, and I have been searching the web all day, and can not find it. Can anyone please direct me on where to go to find this? Your help will be much appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
Sorry hon, but I don’t think you’re going to find anything like that. I think your friend was either sadly mistaken or trying to pull a fast one over you. If it were true, all the wedding planners would go out of business since everybody would claim it was their first wedding.

  41. QUESTION:
Anyone know of any Wedding Freebies?
Im getting married in 2012 and im having a hard time finding free catalogs and samples online of wedding stuff(invitations, dress catalogs ect)
    Does anyone know of any?

    • ANSWER:
I’ve found some free wedding catalogues at a local chocolate and Cake shop in my hometown. It’s a local bridal mag, but it was free and we are having a local wedding, so it makes sense to me. You should check out local small-businesses that sell wedding stuff like dress boutiques or cake shops. Also if you research Bridal Expos, you can find some goodies at those. All my married girlfriends always rave about how awesome the Bridal Expos were and how I HAVE to go now that I’m engaged!!! They give the bride 4 free tickets, and each additional ticket is . They’re all over the place too. I’m going to the one closest to me in a nearby suburb.

  42. QUESTION:
How do I find info for a Free Wedding in DC? ?
I watched on TV a couple of years ago that a couple didn’t pay a penny, except for the dress, it was the suppliers that gave her everything as long as they could keep the companies names on everything. I wanted to know if anyone knows where that report is or where I can get that same stuff.

    Thanks
Of course its not free, its advertising for them, which is why I said they put their names on everything. Like getting a free shirt that has the name of a company on it. And its not an urban myth, it was on the news.

    • ANSWER:
Oh please, there is no such thing.

Nothing it’s free. I wouldn’t rely on urban myths to fund a wedding.

      Good luck

  43. QUESTION:
Where can I find free or cheap wedding planning software?
I know confetti has a few budget planner and things like that but does anyone know where I can find free or cheap wedding planning software to help me plan my wedding? I’ve already got the summitsoft wedding planner CDROM but I’m finding it really confusing I really don’t know how to use it to it’s full potential. I want somewhere where I can keep all the guest list, budget, and stuff like that together. Or would it be easier to do it via Microsoft Excel? Brides and brides-to-be lets unite to help me with my issues:). All help is greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance for your time.

    • ANSWER:
Go with Xcel and/or a notebook. It’s free and won’t spam you (yes, the purchased CDROM stuff has ways). Theknot.com has a pretty good free guestlist manager and budgeter, though it takes some getting used to, and they love spam, so I’d steer clear of your real email address.

  44. QUESTION:
Taking your wedding rings off for free drinks?
I had a friend who is not my friend anymore take her wedding rings off at my bacholorette party and pretend that she was not married and didn’t have a family all night long, she was also making out with guys and groping and stuff. So here is my question, would you ever take your wedding rings off and pretend you weren’t married for free drinks? Also she told me that her husband said it was okay to take off her rings and that it was his suggestion. So my other question, do you know any guy that would tell his wife its OK to take off her wedding rings and makeout with other guys to get free drinks? I don’t, its called honoring your husband, right? As far as Im concerned guys are pretty possessive of their women and I don’t know a single guy that would tell their wives to do that. What do you think?

    • ANSWER:
As much as I would love free drinks, that is a condition I cannot abide by, so I will pass

  45. QUESTION:
What should I tell my friend about spending more of my money on her wedding?
I have been her wedding planner for free, but I have spent over 0 on decorations and flowers, she needs more stuff bought and I dont think I should buy it. What do I tell her or what do I do?

    • ANSWER:
      Yeah you need to say something. Ok here’s what I would do;
      Next time it comes up in conversation, where she wants you do do or get her something, say;
“Becky, you know I’d love to help you, there’s only one problem. I starting to run low on funds…I’ve already spent 0.00 helping you out and to be honest, I don’t have that sort of money to spare at the moment.”

That’s the way I’d go about it. I’m pretty clear about these things in the beginning though. Also, you’re the only one that know’s your friend. You’ll have to think about her personality before you address the situation.

If at all possible, get it in writting – Just incase she has a change of heart later. It’s sad to say, but I see it all the time (I’m a Court Tv Fanatic)

      Good Luck!

  47. QUESTION:
I just got engaged, and I am ready to start planning my wedding.I dont know where to start.?
I know the basic stuff like colors and wedding party and date. but other than that i dont know. I was wondering if anyone knows of any websites that are free and useful.

    • ANSWER:
http://www.theknot.com is a great site, it has a wedding checklist and budgeter.

First, choose your budget. You’ll need that to plan pretty much everything else.

Also, before you get your heart set on colors, check out venues. You may find a venue you’re in love with, but the decor may clash with your selected wedding colors (for example, you’re not going to choose lime green and yellow as wedding colors if the venue you choose has red and gold carpeting and wood)

Start interviewing caterers as well, they can get booked pretty quickly.

      Good luck!

You need to call some local wedding planners around in your area.

Better yet, I recall plusrecipes.com having a wedding section where they offer great deals, like free estimates from local wedding planners and vendors in your area–heck right now one ad-link says you could save 50% through the use of competitive bidding, etc:

      http://plusrecipes.com/PlusRecipes_Free_Estimates_Wedding.htm

Yeah, so call around or use the above link. I hope this is helpful. Good luck!
