Ivory Wedding Dresses
Are not just for the Second Time Around! Ivory Wedding Dresses have a soft elegance about them that White Wedding Dresses don’t have. Ivory usually looks better against anyone’s skin
color and tone, better than White. If you are thinking about planning to choose an Ivory Wedding Dress for your wedding, or planning an All Ivory Wedding, there are some things to consider.
When planning your Ivory Wedding, keep it simple and elegant. If you go overboard with many different styles and items to give it the interest, since almost everything is Ivory, you will junk it up and lose the elegant sophisticated feel.
Add different complementing fabrics for textures, which will create different shades of Ivory. Even though it is the same color the fabric textures will create shadows and look like different depths of the same shade of Ivory. However, make sure it is the same shade of Ivory. Like all colors, there are many shades or tones of each color, and if you mix together the wrong tones, it will look really bad resulting in Cheap!!
Selecting different fabrics and accessories for the Bridesmaids
Alfred Angelo
dresses and the Maid of Honor dress, from the Brides dress, may or may not work! You might select the same fabrics and accents but use them in a different way or place to compliment each other, but still maintain uniqueness. Again without it getting to be too much. That will also create the depth and interest in highlighting each dress and the elegance to the all Ivory Theme.
If you wanted to have all of your BridesMaids and Maid of Honor dresses to continue with the same theme, some Wedding Planners have suggested you purchase the same dresses, maybe very simple in style and decorate them with the same accents, making the Maid of Honors slightly more unique from the others to set her apart.
Creating slightly unique bouquets, or slightly different sizes, or adding one simple additional flower to the Maid of Honors bouquet or a different color ribbon will create enough of a difference.
Possibly have all of the dresses and the accents be the same, but att
ach a unique color sash or ribbon to either each dress for color, or just to the Maid of Honors dress.
Many different fabrics and re-embroidered lace on netting, pearl &
crystal beading and sequins and anything else that can be sewed or glued down, can turn any simple dress into an unbelievable one of a kind sensation.

Also, The Knot has some great ideas for your bridal party. I am pretty much buying everything off eBay! My flower girl dresses only cost me ! I don’t know what your budget is, but look into it. QUESTION:
Non white or ivory wedding dresses. Sites to look at?
My friend is getting married in January. She is a large woman and doesn’t want to walk down the aisle like the Staypuff Marshmallow Mam. So, she zapped the white or ivory dress. Her hubby doesn’t want her dressing in medieval-like garb either (which looks great on her-she has several formal medieval gowns). Both she and her Mom sew, but they need ideas on appropriate dresses that perhaps use more than one color to break up the expanse (for want of a better word). She also doesn’t want a strapless gown. So, do any of you gals know of sites for them to visit to get ideas? Also, suggested color schemes that aren’t pastel, but would be still appropriate for a modern wedding. Thanks!
Wow, ladies! Some of the dresses at your links are fabulous and would easily look good on her in white! Some really great styling there!-

QUESTION:
Ivory bridesmaid dresses? Pink wedding dress?
If I wear a light pink and ivory dress. My fiance told me in the very beginning that he wanted an IVORY wedding. Everyone in IVORY. Since we live in Hawaii I really took over the entire event and advised him he can wear Ivory and I will also. And the BM and MOH will wear Yellow. SPRING colors. However… now Ive found a pink dress, identical to MY Ivory dress, but its a light rose color with ivory tulle (maggie sottero dress, named Rasharna) and I think I like that better! Pink is totally my favorite color! Im re0thinking my spring 2010 wedding and thinking of returning my BM dresses I bought and getting Ivory dresses now… What is everyone’s thoughts???
I bought my dresses from jcrew and was told its not an issue to return them, so I dont think it will be a problem! My fiance told me that he loves the ivory idea, and i dont want him to know that Im wearing a pink dress!-
ANSWER:
im sure the pink dress is beautiful. when you find THE dress, you need it, no matter what your fiance’s opinions are now. truth is, either way you will stun him with your beauty that day and he’ll forget all about “i want ivory” and see his beautiful bride.
congrats and good luck

QUESTION:
Marine blue and ivory wedding dress Marine blue BM dresses…flowers?
I want to have a wedding that is Marine or Navy Blue Silver and Ivory for colors. My dress is going to have Marine or Navy on it and the BM dresses are going to follow that color. I’m at a loss though as far as flowers are concerned. Should I do all white bouquet for me or should I include color? How about the BM’s bouquets? I just don’t know.-
ANSWER:
I’d add something with a little color to it, like a pale pink or yellow. You don’t want to use all white or ivory, as it will get “lost” in pics. Whatever color you add to your white bouquet, just use that color for the whole BMs bouquets. I’m using silks that are identical to hybrid peace roses (pale yellow with pale pink). My dress is white with cornflower blue around the top and bottom on the front and down the middle on the back. My BMs will be in cornflower blue and horizon (royal blue) and we’re all carrying the same flowers, mine will just be bigger.

QUESTION:
What flowers would work well with an ivory wedding dress?
I read somewhere that white doesn’t look so nice. Does anyone have a picture of someone in an ivory dress with white flowers? My other colors will be a pale yellow and a nice purple. Not too dark but not pale either. Wedding is in July. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
How about you do flowers that mix your pale yellow and purple together.Like for example, florists take the pale yellow roses and they brush the tips into a purple pastel, then you got both.
Therefore you will have three different flowers and then you’ll have a pretty flower with your ivory dress.

QUESTION:
What color sandals do I wear for a beach wedding with an ivory dress?
I am not sure if it matters what color sandals I put with an ivory wedding dress. It will be a beach wedding so I need sandals. Do I do white, silver-ish, beaded? Does it really matter? Please help!-
ANSWER:
It doesnt matter — its what you like and what you feel comfortable in!
sandals are a good go-to for a beach wedding because you’re not going to want heels on a beach. depending on the look of the dress — flowy/beachy, glamorous, relaxed– you’re going to want to match your shoes to the same style.a vibe of glam:
http://www.journeys.com/shi/product.aspx?id=157278&p=shoes&c=938&m=SM
less flashy of a style:
http://www.journeys.com/product.aspx?id=162578&g=girls&p=shoes&c=820&m=SM
honestly — if your wedding has the soft, flowy, beach vibe, i think barefoot would be a great way to go. you will make anything beautiful all on your own, and the lack of shoes in this situation will show the relaxed vibe a beach wedding usually has.
i hope you have an amazing wedding!

QUESTION:
what colors/kinds of flowers would be good with navy blue bridesmaid dresses & ivory wedding dress in February?-
ANSWER:
I would avoid anything white ivory or blue, maybe add a pop of color with the flowers in a pink. You can do almost anything in pink, rose, carnations, daisies. Or, you could go with a orange, I think orange really pops against blue. The kind of flower is just your preference, they can dye most of them.

QUESTION:
What color shoes is best to wear with an ivory wedding dress?

QUESTION:
Will my ivory wedding dress look good with white calla lilies?
My wedding dress is ivory, and the bouquet I’m considering has pink roses (they are lighter pink on the bottom and brighter around their edges), pink hydrangeas, white calla lilies, and white stargazer lilies. Will this look odd with my dress? I’m worried about pictures, primarily.-

I think that it’ll be just fine and it’ll look stunning. Remember, white, combined with the other blooms you mentioned, will soften the look of the bouquet and still look beautiful. (BTW, the bouquet sounds spectacular!)I hope this helps!

QUESTION:
Is there a big difference between a white and ivory wedding dress?
Is there a big difference between a white and ivory wedding dress? To me they look they same. In person can you tell that the white is brighter? Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
It’s hard to tell in photos, because those models are all airbrushed and spray-tanned. But I’m one of those fair-skinned people who looks better in ivory – bright white makes me look sallow. I can tell the difference when I look at the colors, but it becomes really obvious when I put them on.My advice is to try on dresses in several shades of white and ivory to figure out what looks best with your complexion.

QUESTION:
Is there anyone who agrees with me on black gloves with an ivory wedding dress?
Every one of my friends say that they will kill me if I wear them on my wedding day. I personally think it will be hard to match ivory with ivory. I really like the black gloves though. And I thought it would be easier to match. On the other hand I don’t have any black in the wedding dress itself I thought of putting a black broach or rose on the top part of it since it is sleeveless. But I really don’t want have to cover any of my dress.-
ANSWER:
White is for weddings black is for funerals but it is your wedding and you should do whatever you want. I’m pretty sure your fiance would say the same thing.

QUESTION:
What kind of shoe to get with ivory wedding dress?
I am going crazy trying to find a shoe that I like to match my wedding dress. My dress is a very simple, plain ivory halter dress. Its so hard to find ivory shoes!! Is there possibly another color that would work?-
ANSWER:
Having matching shoes is not a requirement. The truth is that noone hardly ever get to see the shoes. If you are going to invest 0+ in a pair of shoes, may as well get something that you will use again.Treat yoruself to a faboulous pair of shoes that you like, regardless of the color. In a wedding that I attended a couple of months ago , the bride was wearing a lavish pair of red Jimmy Choos under that white dress. Very chic.

QUESTION:
I have an ivory wedding dress. Can the groom and groomsmen wear silver vests and ties?
Black tuxes and white tux shirt? Flower girl dress is ivory and bridesmaids dresses are pink.-
ANSWER:
Silver and ivory are not typically complementary…my dress was ivory and his tux was ivory, my MOH’s dress and the groomsmen’s tuxes were burgundy…my maids of honor wore a muted shade of dusty pink…Gold goes with ivory better than silver, but then you might look like part of a Vegas lineup…

QUESTION:
Does a Ivory wedding dress go with a black & silver tux?
I bought my wedding dress and it is a Ivory with silver thread and pearls on it. My fiance, from the beginning has visioned himself wearing a black tux with a silver colored vest. His groomsmen would match the color of the bridesmaids dress. ( a medium blue) My question is will that look ok? Ivory and silver!-
ANSWER:
As a wedding planner I am trying to envision your wedding colors. My opinion is that you have your groom wear a ivory tux and maybe the vest could be ivory with a touch of silver in it if the tux shop has it. He can wear the traditional black tux, ivory shirt with a black vest with silver in it then. Have the men wear black tux with black-silver vest and blue tie (not bow tie) and the ladies wear their blue dresses. Be care how your wedding is also decorated because colors can throw your bridal attire colors into chaos. Try to stick to the color scheme as close as you can.

QUESTION:
Ivory wedding dress, is it ok if I have never been married before?
Is it just a old tale that you wear an ivory gown only if you have been married before? I found THE dress, but it is Ivory, almost white its actually like an off-white, in the light it looks white. I cannot find the link to show you guys. Its a casablanca dress.I have never been married before, but we do have a almost 9 month old daughter together, we have been together 4 years.
-
ANSWER:
Ivory is THE color to wear. White looks God awful on me so of course my dress is ivory. I am only 21 and this is my first marriage and ivory is what I want. Go with the dress you truly love – it doesn’t have to be white. Ivory looks so much softer and warmer anyway! In my opinion it even looks more expensive.

QUESTION:
What type of jewelry would look good with an ivory wedding dress thats accented with chrystal/glass beads?
A friend is getting married she has a dress yet she needs ideas for accents/jewelry any original good ideas that arent costly/tacky would be appreciated. Vegas wedding. Thanks-
ANSWER:
Pearls are a classic for wedding dresses. Also, look into a jewelry made with Swarovski crystals. I make jewelry and have not seen crystals that can match their sparkle. The cuts are incredible. Everytime I see a necklace or bracelet with those crystals I can’t get over how lovely they are. The beads are not too expensive, so the jewelry made with Swarovski beads are much, much cheaper then diamonds or precious stones. I would go with a champangne color- just a suggestion.

QUESTION:
Can I wear white shoes with an ivory wedding dress?
I found a pair of really cute white shoes online but my dress is ivory. Do my shoes need to match my dress or is it okay if the color is different?-
ANSWER:
I would be very careful about wearing white shoes. Usually the rule is – the shoes need to be a darker shade than the dress. This is because if the shoes are lighter, the contrast is too great. Sort of like putting florescent yellow against a regular yellow. You could definitely try it out, especially if your ivory dress is a bit closer to white, but I would try to avoid it. Even gold shoes would look better than white. There are a lot of great ivory wedding shoes here if you are still looking: http://www.weddingfeet.com/ivory

QUESTION:
Is ivory wedding dress good for first marriage?
I and my finace are going to get married in this May. This is first marriage for both of us. Is there any special issue about the color of a wedding gown that I need to concern? Is ivory an appropriate color for a first marriage couple?
I have tried several gowns: white or ivory. Both of us like an ivory one the best. That is a strapless satin A-line gown featuring a cascading side drape with a flower at waist and a sweep train. The flower and drap are in champagne. We do like the contrast of ivory and champagne. It is very elegant and classy. So, we ordered that gown in ivory although they do have white one available. However, now I am worrying if that color is an appropriate choice since I noticed some people would suggest second marriage brides to wear off white/ivory wedding dress. Could somebody please help me? Thank you so much.-
ANSWER:
there is no rule about color. Queen Victoria is generally credited with having started the white wedding dress craze. In Victorian times, a woman who could afford an expensive white dress for a one-off occasion was thought to be at the top of her social tree.
Because delicate garments were near impossible to keep clean, a wedding dress could be worn just the once and only people with a lot of money could afford to purchase one.
“It was a clear indication you were a wealthy women and that you were marrying into wealth,” Dr Summers told Annie.
Prior to Queen Victoria women used to wear every day clothes for the wedding ceremony with a white veil and Orange Blossom to indicate the significance of the event.
It was after World War II the white wedding dress became an indication of a woman’s virtue.
Dr Summers said she believes the reason the tradition of the white wedding dress has survived, is due to the lack of romance and excitement in a woman’s life.

QUESTION:
Can I wear black shoes with my ivory wedding dress if I wear a black and ivory flower hairpin?
I don’t want to pay for ivory shoes when I know I’ll never wear again. any thoughts?-
ANSWER:
Not unless it’s a really huge hairpin that can be seen from the front as well as the back… though that that point it would be more of a hat.The only way you’re going to get away with black shoes with an ivory dress is if you incorporate some black into the dress itself. Either black trim, or a black wrap/shawl.
White, you might get away with. But not black. Just go to PayLess, get a cheap pair of shoes and toss them when you’re done. I’ve never paid more than at PayLess for anything. Unless your dress is a short style, people are only going to see the tips of them anyway.

QUESTION:
what is the meaning behind an ivory wedding dress?
I always heard that the color ivory stood for purity more so than white, is this true?-
ANSWER:
I’ve never heard that. In fact, I thought some brides chose ivory because it was “off-white” hence not exactly a virgin.
But I’m sure that some choose it simply because they feel it is more complimentary to their complexion than the stark white. Many people do not look their best in white, and ivory is their choice.

Ivory wedding dress, can’t decide on COLORS. Help me?
I’m getting married next July and have already ordered my wedding dress which is an ivory color with lighter lace detail. I can’t decide what my colors should be. ANSWER:
i had an ivory dress. since you are marrying in a summer month, black bridesmaids dresses will seem very heavy. try champagne dresses for the maids. you can also do ivory tuxes for the men, or try chocolate or light brown for the men. also, there will be lots of greenery present if you marry during summer so also incorporate spring green for an accent color. use flowers and shoes (perhaps bright red roses & high heeled pumps) for a splash of unexpected color.

QUESTION:
what color flower would go with an ivory colored wedding dress?
“i am getting married next september, my wedding dress is going to be ivory colored. i need some ideas as to what color flower would give the best contrast”-
ANSWER:
I am getting married in October and I have a Ivory dress. I chose Red Roses and Orange Calla Lillies for the fall. Almost anything will go. I would aim for something that goes with the season and is a pop of color with the dress. Obviously nothing white. Pink is okay but might be a bit bland. Bright is going to look best in your photos.

QUESTION:
Can I Wear An Ivory Wedding Dress?
I recently decided on a wedding dress that’s available in both white and ivory. I thought the ivory was much prettier, but when I mentioned it to my fiance’s family his mother seemed to think it was odd and that everyone would “talk.” My mom says it’s up to me, and so does my fiance.-
ANSWER:
There’s nothing wrong with ivory, it’s an elegant old -fashioned elegant off-white colour. I’d hate to see what they’d say if you chose a red one which several ppl do these days. It’s your wedding and her son’s. Not her’s! She needs to let you enjoy this special time and keep her opinions to herself. Little things like this are nothing for people to worry about, but mean a lot to you. Wear what you want to!

QUESTION:
I am looking for a champagne or ivory color wedding dress, any recommendations?
It will be a winter wedding. I want something not to inexpensive but not too expensive. I dont like puffy dresses, I do like the modern look type. Yes, real silk. Please help.
All comments will be helpful thanks!-
ANSWER:
I would go start trying things on. Go to a smaller, privately owned bridal shops (instead of larger chain stores), in my opinion the sales people are just more knowledgeable. Since you have a good idea of what you want, go in and explain it to them and they will be able to pull dresses that are what you have in mind. Almost all wedding dresses can be ordered in either ivory or champaign, even if the sample is white (I’m having an ivory dress too).Lastly, don’t be shy to try dresses on that a sales person might suggest. They have a great eye for body shape and what will look good on your and still be what you have in mind – it’s worth the 5 minutes to try something on, even if it isn’t exactly what you picture or doesn’t look great on the hanger. One of the salespeople at a little family owned shop suggested I try on a mermaid style gown and I fell in love!
The dress she suggested wasn’t “the one” but I did eventually find my dress, and it’s mermaid style – something I never thought I would like or look good on me! My reception dress will also be a mermaid style!
Good Luck and have fun! It may take multiple shopping trips to find the right one
Addition:
I noticed another posted recommended Casa Blanca – yes all their dresses are made of real silk, but at every store I’ve tried them on at (I actually like a quite a few of their designs) they are always overpriced. I don’t know why, maybe because they are a Canadian designer and made in Canada, but these dresses are always priced 0-900 more than they are really worth. And this is coming from my mother who used to design and make wedding gowns and owned a bridal store for 6 years.
