Rental Wedding Dresses

Renting wedding attire becomes very common nowadays because more and more people experience financial crisis. Obviously, some couples choose to rent their attire to save money or spend it for other details of the wedding. Many people opt to rent clothes including formal suits and designer suits for special occasions because they consider renting as the most practical way these days. It 00004000 is the reason why some businessmen get interested in putting up a rental business. The following tips will help surely those who are planning to start a rental business for wedding attire.

Step 1- Consider the area.

Before starting a business, the first thing you need to consider is the location where you are planning to establish it. The best places to put a business include those close to wedding festivities, reception venues, or churches. Your business area should be easy to find and has good ambiance.

Step 2- Set a budget.

You can start a simple and very small or big rental business, depending on your budget. If it’s your first time to establish a business, you may opt to start in a small one and expand it once the first trial becomes successful. However, if you’re already an experienced businessman and you have no financial shortage, you may instantly start in a large business.

Step 3- Decide on what rental services you are going to offer.

All wedding rental business offer men’s suits or tuxedos and bridal gowns for rent. Other types of clothing you can offer include dresses for bridesmaids, tuxedos for groomsmen. There are some couples who take charge in renting the dresses for mother of the bride so you may also offer them in your establishment.

Step 4- Register your business.

Register your business in the city or state. This allows you to purchase rental items in wholesale stores. Buy wedding items and start promoting your business by making advertisements in local newspaper.

Step 5- Look for trusted suppliers.

You can never operate a business without suppliers of the items you are going to offer for rent. Take enough time to choose your suppliers and maintain good relationship with them.

Step 6- Look for potential clients.

One of the best ways to look for potential clients is to find small businesses related to yours such as wedding photographers, catering services, wedding dress makers, wedding cake bakers, tuxedo rental establishments, local jewelries, and wedding invitation printers.

Step 7- Create manpower.

If you are planning to start in a small business, there’s no need to hire assistant. But if it would be a big establishment, hire someone who has enough knowledge about rental business.

  1. QUESTION:
where on line can i look at pictures of rental wedding dresses?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi there

      check out weddingcentral.com.au

Hope this helps and good luck!

  2. QUESTION:
    Pre-Owned (or Rental) Wedding Dresses?
Hi, I am in Chicago and am looking for a place that sells (or rents) couture wedding dresses from designers such as Romona Keveza, Amsale, Reem Accra, Vera Wang and Justina McCaffrey.

I was preparing to pay 00 for a Justina McCaffrey gown but something in my head told me to pump my brakes…and get off of Oak Street.

This is very popular on the East Coast but I am finding this to be really tough here in Chicago. If you have any info on this please let me know! I’ve got exactly ONE YEAR to go!!!

    • ANSWER:
I ran a quick search, and came up with “White Chicago”, located at 222 West Huron, phone number 312.397.1571. The website indicates that they sell new, sample, and “once-wed” gowns, and have a couture seamstress onsite. Vera Wang is on their list of designers, as is Badgley Mischka, Demetrios, Scaasi…

Going through consignment is a smart way to save money on a dress you love! Your search through local bridal shops and consignment shops should yield better results than my quick Y!search – mostly because you’re there and I’m in New Jersey :) Your local newspaper may have gowns listed in the classified ads (apparently more weddings get called off than we think), or if there is a fashion design program in a local university, a professor or senior student may be able to help you design the look you love at a considerable discount.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and happy shopping!

  20. QUESTION:
Marriage is to buy or rent wedding wedding?
I would like to get married, but now should be hesitant to buy a wedding or a wedding dress rental, buy, though not expensive, but it is a waste ah, rent it, wife heart uncomfortable, so to learn from you about!

    • ANSWER:
If you future wife is set on buying a wedding dress, maybe you could cut back on some other things, and let her have it. Most girls dream about their wedding dress for years and love the idea of having their dress forever.

I personally would rent the dress if that was an option where I live, but I have no intentions of keeping my dress.

If my fiance was set on buying his tux instead of renting it, I think I would try to find a way to fit it in the budget. Your fiance needs to know that she has to make cuts somewhere else though.

  24. QUESTION:
Help with table decorating ideas for a rental hall wedding?
We are on a very tight budget, and going with fall for our theme. The dresses will be apple red and I was thinking of white linens for tables but somehow incorperating fall colors without making it look cheaply done. We are going to use paper napkins, so I was thinking yellow for one table, orange for another, and red for another and so on. I dont want it to look tacky but I need some ideas. We dont have much money so nothing extraordinary please

    • ANSWER:
pumpkins and leaves. a friend of mine got married a few years ago and had those little mini pumpkins on the tables. carve hearts into them too. pick up CLEAN leaves from a local park, make sure to clean them, and scatter them on the tables, but not too much that it’s in the way of anything. keep the tables covered with brown cloth, it’s a more neutral color and will make the pumpkins and leaves colors pop! maybe some “indian” corn too… ya know, the dried brown/orange/yellow corn used for decoration. hit up a craft store too… like ac moore, micheal’s, joanne’s.

  25. QUESTION:
    Rental Wedding Gowns?
I live in the bay area does anyone know of a good place I can rent a wedding dress. Since times are so hard these days I want to have a nice wedding (-) the dollar amount. Can anyone help me? Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Odd, a couple weeks ago someone was on Y/A wondering if she should allow a dear family member to borrow her dress to rent out…

A generation ago, there were places to rent dresses, (and it sounds like a good idea, too) but so many people have succumbed to the hysteria of the wedding industry that it’s rarely done any more. Women are harder to fit than men, though, and altering a dress not as easily done as altering a tux.

Scour craigslist.com, maybe theknot.com will have (former)brides in your area who would love to sell that gown taking up space in their closets. I even fitted a bride this past summer who wanted me to hem her dress without cutting any off so she could re-sell it in it’s original condition on craigslist! You can limit your ebay search, too, to people in your area.

Our goodwill and Salvation army stores have only homely, outdated dresses, but if you live near a bigger city you may have better luck. You can try consignment shops, too Check the yellow pages for them. Some have current clothing, some specialize in vintage clothing. A vintage dress in white or even a color would certainly be something that the guests won’t see three more times next summer.

  27. QUESTION:
is it okay to ask bridal party to pay for own dresses/tux rental?
were on a budget ! like most! and i want to have my future sisters in law in my wedding how ever i don’t know if we can afford to pay for their dresses and rent the tux’s for the groomsmen also? – Is it appropriate to ask them to pay for it?

    • ANSWER:
Its actually pretty standard for the wedding party to pay for their own attire and rentals. It might vary according to where you live, but I’ve been in 10 weddings in Texas and paid for my own attire every single time. I wasn’t asked to, it was just expected. Unless you offer to pay, they should know they’re responsible for the cost.

For my own wedding we did pay for part of some of the tux rentals because it was a hardship for them to pay full price and we had room in the budget to pay for it.

  28. QUESTION:

  30. QUESTION:
    Wedding dress rentals?
Any suggestions or tips on renting a wedding dress? I think I may prefer to rent my dress rather than buy one, but I cannot find much information on rentals.

    • ANSWER:

  31. QUESTION:
How expensive do you think a 250 guest wedding is?
I’m curious as I plan my wedding. Consider the price of the church, the flowers, the photographer, the wedding dress, the tux rental, the honeymoon trip, the presents to the wedding party and parents, the centerpieces, the DJ, the invitations, the reception hall rental, the food, the drinks, the cake, the limo, the rehearsal dinner, the champagne toast, the engagement pictures, and even the engagement ring. I’m probably forgetting some things…

    • ANSWER:
It really depends on where you live, the quality of the food/liquor, the elaborateness of the flowers etc etc. We had 200 guests at our wedding 2 weeks ago in the NYC area, and the price tag was slightly over 70K. This included the reception venue (top shelf liquor, cocktail hour, full course dinner, Viennese hour) photographer, 14 piece band, photographer + assistant, flowers (including centerpieces, and personal flowers), limo, and my dress, make-up and hair. It didn’t include the honeymoon, rings, various gifts, or any printed materials. Depending on where in the U.S. you live, the same wedding could cost 25K.

  32. QUESTION:
    Wedding dress rentals in OKC?
I am looking to rent a wedding dress or find a dress around 0. I am a size 14 and am wanting a ball gown-type dress. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas please let me know! Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
The problem with a rental is that you can not have it altered specifically to you!

Why not search on Ebay for a gown? Make sure, though, that you check out the measurements. Know that bridal gowns usually run smaller, so if you wear a size 14 dress now, you may want to opt for a size 16 wedding gown.

      Here is one on Ebay:

      http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-MOONLIGHT-WEDDING-DRESS-SZ-14-Store-Liquidation-/180537276763?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Wedding_Dresses&hash=item2a08dc395b

I don’t know if you are familiar with Ebay selling/buying or not, but you should contact the SELLER directly through the link provided in the listing to ask any questions.

Good luck in your search! This is only one of a few hundred that are listed. Go on Ebay or Craigslist and see what you can find. Much better than renting one!

  35. QUESTION:
Whose names go on the wedding invitation?
My parents are paying for most of the wedding, the entire reception, dresses, flowers, musicians, invitations…. all that jazz, but his dad paid for the rental of the wedding location and he is paying for the rehersal dinner and giving us airline miles to use for our honeymoon. So, whose names go on the invitation? My parents think just theirs since they are paying for the bulk of the wedding but I almost think that his dad and step mom should be on there too. But I am conflicted. What does ettiquette say and what is your personal opinion.
Generally if the bride’s parents pay for the wedding it is hosted by them and just their names are on the invitation. But the only thing his dad paid for was the wedding site. Everything else is being paid by my parents. So that is why I am unsure as to if his name should be added to the invitation.

    • ANSWER:
Well, there’s what etiquette says, and then there’s what modern fad and fashion masquerading as etiquette says. You’ve already had a chance to hear the latter.

What etiquette says, is that the invitation must state:
      - WHO is issuing the invitation, that is, who is hosting
      - WHOM they are inviting
      - to WHAT
      - WHEN, and
      - WHERE
There’s nothing on that about recognizing funders, “recognizing” important contributors, or any other public flaunting of private financial matters, because etiquette forbids disclosing money matters in public as gauche.

So your question is really, who is “hosting” this event. There’s more to hosting than just paying the bills. The host is the person who takes personal responsibility for the well-being, comfort and entertainment of the guests. Regardless of who is paying, if you are the one deciding that a cold entree is “good enough” and that a two hour drive between venues is a good idea, then you are the hostess and need to take responsibility for those decisions. Or take the *credit*, if you have decided to have an in-town wedding to accomodate your grandparents who cannot travel and are scheduling your photographs before the ceremony so as to not leave your guests hanging. Or your mom and dad should shoulder the blame or credit, if *they* are the ones making the decision.

Airline miles are irrelevant to the guests — that’s just for you and hubby; and your fiance’s dad is going to have his name on the rehearsal dinner invitations as the host of that, so it too is irrelevant.

But, there’s nothing to stop you from putting your fiance’s parents name on the invitation as part of explaining the “what” part of the invitation:

      Mr and Mrs John G
request the pleasure of the company of

at the wedding of their daughter
      Angela
      to
      Mr Handsome Guy
Son of Mr and Mrs Parents Guy…

  36. QUESTION:
How much does the average wedding cost?
I know there are a lot of statistics on the web right now but I would rather hear how much it cost all of you married people out there. Break it down to how much the main things cost you. Use this template to list how much each thing cost you:
    Wedding reception site:
    Wedding ceremony site:
    Wedding cake:
    Photographer:
    Wedding Dress:
    Tuxedo rental:
    Caterer:
    Wedding/engagement rings:
    Honeymoon:
    Limo service:
    Invitations:
    DJ/Music:
    Total cost of your wedding:
What other costs did you have extra? If you didn’t have all of these then you can just put [FAQ-QUESTION] next to the ones you didn’t have. I am trying to do research to find information about wedding costs. Anyone willing to participate would be a great help and I would really appreciate it.
I just want to know how much it is costing everyone else, no matter where they live but I live in Idaho.

    • ANSWER:
Weddings can be whatever you want them to be. They can reach a fair amount, or a resonable amount depending on how you done things.
I live in the UK and my wedding cost about £5000, give or take. That was with us saving on things, getting them cheaper, and so on.

My dress, I saw for £650, found for half price on the internet.
Bridesmaid dresses were from a store and altered by a friend.
Cake, car and flowers paid for by in laws. About £400
The reception, food and DJ were together. About £3,000.
Invites, done by a friend. £40 for supplies.
Decs, about £60 in total. I done them myself.
Photographer, was my uncle. No charge.
The men brought their own suits,
Accessories were under £100 for all.
      Church fees £400
      Hair, Cousin is a hairdresser
Make up, Sister in laws mum offered. No cost
      Favours, gifts. £100 about.

      And so on.
We saved where we could, used family, friends and anyone else who could help.
So it is possible to make it a reasonable wedding for limited cost. Our wedding went off with NO hitches and we didn’t use proffessional florists, make up, hair, invites, table decs, seamstress.

If you want to save pennies, find friends, friends of friends etc to help if they have the skills and talents

  38. QUESTION:
help! chair rental dilemma for wedding reception?
I have the hall for my wedding reception booked. it was a great price for the location, unfortunetly the chairs provided by the lodge are an eye sore! this is the place:http://www.laparks.org/dos/reservations/grace_photoalbum.htm
I’m having a summer wedding, my dress is ivory and the bridesmaids will be wearing yellow. A friend suggested renting chair covers w/sashes but the prices are ridiculous! We’re expecting 150 guests and the most affordable rate so far is .75 per chair…crazy right?!! Another friend suggested renting wood folding padded chairs. It is more cost effective however, now it comes down to choosing a color. The tables will be covered with floor lenght ivory silk linens. These chairs are available in white and natural wood, i’m not sure what would look best! Would it look tacky to use these for an indoor reception?

    http://culvercity.classicpartyrentals.com/products/chairs/139

Any ideas on how to give these chairs an elegant touch yet affordable?

    • ANSWER:
      Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

What you should do about the chairs will depend on your level of formality. As you mentioned, the table linens will be silk, this is a luxurious and formal look! If you have spent the time in picking these linens, that it is your obligation to follow through with a cohesive and elegant look if you don’t you may regret it when you see the pictures …. for the rest of your life! Trust me on this one.

If budget is a real concern, I would scale back the florals enough to cover the chair costs, or pinch a little with the hors d’overs during the cocktail hour. No one will notice those as much as the chairs.

As for what to do with the chairs: Silk linens should be complemented with Chavari chairs period. However this is a huge cost. Your only other solution should be to cover the venue’s ugly chairs with nice covers and bows.

  39. QUESTION:
wedding/prom/formal dresses – question, then opinion?
Question – has anyone ever heard of, seen or used a store that rents or sells used wedding/prom/formal dresses. Dresses that are in excellant to very good shape

Opinion – if a place like this existed, would you ladies consider doing this. The rental fee would be much lower than buying, and the dresses can be inspected before renting. If buying used, you would have the option of selling the dress back minus X amount of dollars

    Need some feedback. Thanks
Dresses would be professionally cleaned before leaving/upon entering the store

    • ANSWER:
      HIYA FRANKIE!!

I was a part in my freinds wedding, we hired the dresses for all bridesmaids. They adjusted them to fit perfect etc etc… I didnt personally like the dress or colour so I was glad I didnt have to buy it and have it clutter up my wardrobe like the other two bridesmaids dresses I have in there already! Somthing I’ll never wear again as the previous poster said.

Wedding dresses I guess are more sentimental and I guess this is why people want to buy. Dont forget theres also a lot of people who dont like borrowing or loaning or renting. They dont like op-shops for example. These people wouldnt go for this idea..

Good luck with your new business venture :p

  40. QUESTION:
How much did your wedding gown cost?
I am planning a low budget wedding..
Is the dress really the most important part of it?
How much did your wedding dress cost??
How much would a decent/beautiful one cost??
No rentals please… i’m keeping mine (which i haven’t bought)

    • ANSWER:
i spent 0+ on my gown. it is more expensive then i really wanted, but just like the old saying goes. you get what you pay for.

a davids bridal dress can run in the low hundreds, but the dresses are mass produced and they wrinkle really easily and frankly are not all that good looking and probably 50 brides have tried that dress on before you.

Maggie Sottero makes very nice dresses that are good mid range. i got my first dress from her and it was around 0, the only problem i found is that it wrinkles really easy and the embroidery is really delicate. but her dresses are nice. (i have to sell it cause it’s from a wedding that never happened and i’m to big for it now XD

my new dress for my coming up wedding i bought a Mori Lee which ran me over 0 but the dress is of a quality i have never seen. the dress that i tried on in the store is stored in the plastic bad and every time we pull the try on dress out there is not a single wrinkle on it. the dress is very sturdy and even though the skirt has two layers of organza on it and very intricate beading i don’t really fear i have to worry about tearing it or loosing the beads.

so you may end up spending more but you won’t regret it in the end. i would find a dress you like and of good quality.

  41. QUESTION:
What do you think of a bridal gown rental shop?
With planning a wedding and looking at dresses, I was wondering if a Bridal rental shop would be a good idea. I always hear people say that guys are lucky becuz they can rent a tux, but girls have to BUY their dresses.

How much would you be willing to rent a gown for?

Around here, just getting a wedding gown cleaned would cost around 0.00 Alterations might cost another 0. If that’s the case, a gown rental would have to cover that and THEN some, wouldn’t it? So that would defeat the purpose.

Bridesmiad dresses might be a bit better. I think they cost the same as any other dress for cleaning. Maybe –

Girls, would you rent a gown? If so, how much would you pay to rent vs. buy?
I am not looking for one for myslef. I did get my gown for my wedding… it was just something that I was curious about. I just wondered how many women would actually rent it. The groom rents his tux, usually. Guys are soooo unsentimental! LOL

    • ANSWER:
I wish we had a bridal rental place for gowns around here. That would have saved me a lot of time looking for a dress.
I’ve heard that they run from 400-1000 bucks to rent a dress, and in my opinion that is absolutely absurd
I paid for my ,000 alfred angelo dress on ebay.
and I paid for BOTH bridesmaid dresses on there too.
So if you dont want to spend much, check out EBAY

  42. QUESTION:
I’m want to rent a wedding dress, does anyone know any websites that you can without have to visit the store?
I’m trying to rent my wedding dress because I have a really tight budget. Rental shops can be very hard to find, and finding shops online is even harder. There are several websites that offer renting, but most of them you have to visit the store before renting.

    • ANSWER:

  43. QUESTION:
What steps did you take and how hard was it to get the doors open?
What steps did you have to take in opening your own wedding boutique or rental?

What are some good names? It’s pretty much going to be a one stop place for B2B….small day spa, tannery, favor ordering, rental, dresses, rent dresses. a few other things, I am still drawing up business plans and Ideas.

    • ANSWER:
Check you local small business administration, I’m sure they have an FAQ. You may also want to check Yahoo groups or other sites that have bulletin boards that allow you to network with other small business owners. Small businesses are often difficult to get into and the advice I have heard is it may take a few years to turn a profit. So capital and the ability to manage your own business (previous business experience) is key.

      Good luck!

If someone hires a wedding dress it means they rent it for a time.

Or an adjective. “Michael runs a hire car.”

  45. QUESTION:
    Where can I find a men’s tuxedo/suit that would have a 1900′s style for a wedding?
My fiance and I have finally decided on a theme for our wedding. We’re going with a 1900′s (Titanic-like) theme. I found the perfect dress. It’s very simple, yet elegant, but definitely is very era-specific. I am just having a heck of a time finding something for him to wear. We really would like to find him something also from that era (preferably in a rental). Since my dress is so simple, it doesn’t even have to be a tuxedo, it could be a nice suit, or dress shirt and pants. I’ve searched several vintage websites (women’s wedding dresses galore, but nothing good for men). Any ideas???

    • ANSWER:
      Here’s some formal-looking gentlemen from 1900:

      A pic from a 1900 fashion book:

You could get a basic long coat tuxedo and have a professional alter it.

Or contact your local costume bank, if you’re lucky enough to be near a theatre.

  46. QUESTION:
    Gold Coast wedding? Help?
My husband and I are already married. We didn’t have a big wedding or ceremony. We are going back to Gold Coast Australia and want to get the following:
Wedding dress and tuxedo rental for one day
My hair and make-up professionally done
A photographer to come to the rainforest retreat we will be staying at. We want some wedding pics while we are still youngish.
Does anyone know a provider who caters to these things in a kind of all-in-one package?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi there.
I couldn’t find any site that puts them all together in a package, but I did a quick google and found heaps of sites that cater for each different area and even offer a free planner. Some of them are:

      http://www.goldcoastinfolink.com/html/weddings.htm

      http://www.goldcoastweddings.com/

      http://www.brideonline.com.au/directory/QLD_Gold_Coast/index.htm

      www.weddinglinks.com.au/weddings/goldcoast/
      www.weddingqld.com

You could also try and find out through the rainforest retreat whether they have wedding packages, if you have not already done so. Hope this can help. Good luck:)

  47. QUESTION:
Would it be a cheesy wedding party gift?
Would it be cheesy for our gift to our wedding party be money towards their dress and tuxedo rentals? i feel it would be helpful considering the economy. This is coming from the fact that i spent 0 on a bridesmaids dress and the wedding lasted 3mos. Is it cheesy?

    • ANSWER:
Well, thats not REALLY a gift for them. Yes, it lightens their burden, but after all, its for your wedding.

The bridal party gifts really should be something for THEM. Even if it is a simple luxury bath and oils set. It doesnt need to be expensive, just something for them to enjoy!

If you can afford to help out with the dress and tux rentals, that would be lovely. But that should be separate from the gift.

  48. QUESTION:
Can i rent a wedding dress?
I live in maryland and my boyfriend and i are tight on cash. I want a nice wedding, but i was wondering is it possible to rent a wedding dress for the day? I know thats kinda silly but i think it would be cool if i could rent a 4000 dollar dress out for the night and look gorgeous and then return it the next day…for a rental fee of course idk any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
I would look for a resale shop and ask to see their Never Worn dresses. There are people out there who buy a wedding dress and break up or have another life changing event that keeps them from the ceremony. You can’t return a wedding dress so they decide to take it to a resale shop. When someone buys it at the shop, the original bride gets some of the money. In my opinion, it’s a win-win-win situation. You get a great deal on a new dress, the original bride gets some of her money back and the store makes some money so it can continue to stay open and offer this service.

  49. QUESTION:
How can I save on THIS wedding dress?
So I have a very non-traditional and inexpensive dress for the wedding that I was happy with. But my in-laws suggested that I at least try on traditional dresses. By way of background, the dress I have is from their culture, and I don’t have family nearby, so most of the wedding planning has been with them.

I agreed to go, and then fell in love with this dress:

    http://www.morilee.com/Bridals/Bridal/dressint.php?idves=2507&idcat=1&idscat=1&npic=6&npag=1

    in white.

Now my wedding is only months away, and I would have to pay extra to get it rushed in. Also, while it’s not a lot of money for a wedding dress (about 00 Canadian, plus rush fees 0, plus alterations 0 and taxes $? makes it almost 00 Canadian) I still don’t want to pay that much for it.

I looked into renting it, and while that is still an option, I’m concerned with accidental damage to the dress and with the rental shop reneging on the deal (they were less than savoury characters).

Is there another way to get this dress? I would be thrilled with a knock off if it looked identical.

    • ANSWER:
The dress is absolutely beautiful! I agree with the first poster that this is your wedding and you should wear what you like. I bought my dress of a website that lets you upload pictures of any dress you like and they will copy it. I didn’t pay more than 0.00 for mine and got it within 3 weeks! I am going to leave you the link in case you want to check it out.
