3. QUESTION:
   Why is it socially unacceptable to rent wedding dresses in the USA?
   1. The excuse for spending several hundred to thousands of $ for a dress you will wear for ONE DAY that “it’s going to become my family heirloom” is totally bogus because if that happened, why aren’t you wearing your grandma’s?
   2. I know it *was* once the case that dresses were passed down, but this changed so long ago that you’d think some businesses would have caught on. (Buy expensive designer dresses, rent them out, everybody’s happy except the price-gouging manufacturers.)
   3. It’s sexist because the groom can rent his tuxedo.
   4. Yes, women do come in a huge range of sizes, but brides rent dresses in lots of other countries so there must be a way to work around this.

   So…WHY?

   • ANSWER:
     I don’t think it is socially unacceptable to rent a wedding dress. I have known people who have rented a dress from a store or borrowed on from someone else. No one had a problem with it. A lot of people still have grandiose ideas of what they plan to do with their dress (pass it down, turn it into something else to wear, trash the dress taking photos, make christening gowns for their children, using parts of it for a quilt, etc.). While many dresses are horribly expensive, you can find affordable, lovely dresses given time and patience. A man can buy a tux, he does not have to rent. A woman can rent a dress, she does not have to buy. There is no set rule or law stopping either from doing either. I’ve seen two strangers who both loved a dress but couldn’t quite afford it split the cost of the dress!

   How much should I expect to pay for amendment of my wedding dress in the USA? ?
   I am loosing weight these months, so I need some amendment of my wedding dress.

     Amendment? Meaning you need to get it altered? It all depends on how your dress is and where you will need it to be fixed. Call around to a few shops before thought because people will rip you off.

5. QUESTION:
   Does anyone know of a great beading place or person to add beading onto my wedding dress in the USA?
   I have found my perfect wedding dress but would love to add beading or embroidy of some kind on it. I would also love to find a short sleeved jacket to go with it if it’s cold out. Most out of the dresses I’ve found come with the dress and you cannot purchase it separate.

     Ask around for a seamstress reccomendation. Or buy a veil that has beading on it instead.

   I have been searching for a wedding dress at Ebay and notice lots of good prices (CHEAP) from sellers in Hong Kong and other countries… The dresses can be made to fit my size- plus size, and the styles are great. I am just wary of buying from another country… ANy advice?

     its cheap because its being sold from china. I would not buy clothes online because it may bot fit you the way you want it, especially if this is for a wedding, and returning it is a complicated hassle. If you still end up buying from someone international, especially china and japan, i would 1st. be risking your money, 2nd. not expecting the best quality. This is kind of liek buying clothes as the store, when things are good on you, escept like something is to wide, or long, or doesnt feel comfortable.But this is more importanbt cuz this is for a wedding.Even though you mght want to keep it after, i would just rent a dress, which is ussualy teh better buy/deal, unless you plan to reuse it alot. A wedding is not a everyday thing, so its better to use something something good, and once, than bad, and have it forever. Personally, i have had a few cases where i ordered things from canada, and they never came. It is really complicated to ship from china, and expensie, so i would include sum extra 50 bux for it.

    Where can I buy Cambodian dresses in the USA?
    I already asked this question, but no one gave me real answers and they didn’t read what I posted and gave me stuff I didn’t want or need. Please read in entirety before replying, if you do not know, please do not answer. I am looking for a place that sells Cambodian wedding dresses, but not in Cambodia or Vietnam, because it will take far too long to have them made in my small size and shipped to America.       Have a good starting captial and good credit
      well contact the people who make these dresses
      2nd find a good importer company who delivers on time and gives good prices
      Always have a back up plan in case the importer has a slow down
      Make sure you have a good business model and have a strategic market you are going to tackle

15. QUESTION:
    If buying a wedding gown online from USA what size should I get?
    I keep reading that they run small, but how small? When they give the size chart measurements will it be the measurements in the chart or smaller?
    I am a size 16 Australian but will probably be a 14 by the time of my wedding (16 weeks away!) and have been looking at dresses online but would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to sizing… What size should I look for to fit a TRUE Australian 14?

      There isn’t any easy way to figure that out with out taking your measurements. I would go to a shop and have someone take them for you. Keep in mind most wedding dresses run small, its easier to take in then out. Just make sure you give yourself enough time to get alterations done. It can take up to 6 weeks to ship things internationally. Good luck!!

      It’s never a good idea to buy from a web-site that hides it’s address/telephone number from you on their contact page – why would they do that if they were honest? I hope you get your dress, but it’s a harsh lesson isn’t it.

    What is a nice place to buy my wedding dress?
    I’m going tu USA in january to buy my dress, but I need a place of quality, a good brand, cause a was told that David’s Bridal was like the wal mart of the wedding dresses.
    Probably they have pretty dresses there, but why are they so cheap?

      It is true about David’s Bridal being the walmart and anyone who says it different is lying. The reason they are cheap is because they manufacture them themselves in mass quantities. You will never find a one of a kind dress there. Also, for the most part, they are VERY plain. Not a lot of details. I’m not saying they don’t have pretty dresses there, it is hard to find ugly dresses but they are the lower end of wedding dresses. You will find the same dress in all sized there. Look up their website and you will get an idea of what they have.

      My dress was a one of a kind (for only 0) but I also made some changes on it (like adding straps). It was a 00 dress that I got on sale because the designer is no longer designing. I was very lucky. I’m not a rich snob or anything, I am just being honest about David’s Bridal. That was one of the places I looked for my wedding dress but I wanted something with more detail!

      I got my dress at a local family owned boutique. My dress was also 2 sizes to big when I bought it but I bought it off the rack. You can’t complain though for the price tag!

      It depends on what your budget it for your dress on where you should go. If it is higher, then go to New York. They have some awesome dress stores there (like the TLC show “Say Yes to the Dress”). Your best bet would be to find the area you want to go, come up with a budget and Google it. Call them in advance for an appt and price range!

      Look at wedding dress pictures on lifelovebeauty/love/weddings.com. Most of them are Irish, but could be made Scottish by adding a sash in the same plaid as your grooms. A dressmaker or skilled sewer could copy the designer styles.

    What should I wear to a Friday night wedding in September in Connecticut USA?
    I rarely, if ever, wear dresses or skirts so I was hoping a pants suit would be acceptable. I want to look coordinated and classy and do so on a limited budget.

      I live in CT, and it tends to get cool in the fall, so you may be able to get away with a pants suit if you wear it properly. I’d reccommend a gray tweed one (so not to look like a man’s suit) paired with an eggplant top, pumps, and clutch.

      I am from the united states and just moved to Europe, with my husband for work. I purchased my wedding dress in the US and aboslutely loved it. All your daughter needs to do is find out what her size in UK converts to in US size and order the dress that way, and if it needs a little taylor work when it arrives, just take it and have it hemed up or let out or taken in, but as long as you figure out what her UK size is converted to the US size it shouldnt be a problem.       If you’re getting married at the end of next September you have plenty of time. If you’d rather not worry about shipping, then I would look into going to a dress shop near wherever it is that you live.

Some of the women will come to the wedding hiding under her abaya/hijab, then whoop that thing off to reveil the most alaborate dress you’ve ever seen..       Isn’t he going to be planning with you? And what do you mean “how should you plan”? Are you talking about how to plan around the Marine issue, or how to plan in general?

      As for your fiance’ and his dress blues, I would check with his friend or former superior. I’ve seen old men, out of the military for many years, wear their uniforms on special occasions. On the other hand, I have also heard that no matter the reason you’re out of the military, you’re out, so that means not wearing the uniform.

    To wear to my cousins wedding and then to homecoming the next day. I need help figuring out how to do my hair for both days.     Your experiences with a custom-made wedding dress maker on ebay?
    My daughter is getting married and she is considering the possibility of getting a dress custom-made by someone through ebay. It seems quite a bit less expensive. However, most of these dressmakers are not in our country (USA.) Has anyone had an experience with any of these-good or bad-they are willing to share? I don’t entirely trust ebay’s ‘feedback’ system so I’d like some ‘real people’ experiences. Thanks!

      Yes, I bought a dress on eBay and the seller was in China, so what I did was that I ordered a dress (custom made) almost 2 sizes too big, because I wanted to wait until a few weeks before the wedding to alter it to my size. The dress I chose is stunning and I paid a total of 0 including shipping from China and when searched for the same dress at other stores online I found a few extremely similar that were almost a ,000. I am very very happy with my dress. My reasoning was that if for some reason the dress wouldn’t look good on me I could always buy another and I wouldn’t have lost that much money, since a wedding gown at a store cost a fortune. So if I would do it all again, I would in a heartbeat. The key is to find a tailor you trust around where you live, or you can go to a bridal store and pay their tailor for fitting it properly.

    Wedding Dress for Civil Ceremony?
    I will be getting married in just a little over three months in a civil ceremony most likely at my fiance’s house. I’m having problems finding a the type of dress in the budget that I want for this small ceremony.

    You see – future husband and I live in different countries (I’m in Canada, he’s in the USA) and coming down on the fiance visa, we have three months to be married once I’ve crossed the border so we decided that we wanted to do a civil ceremony in February and then we’ll be doing the large wedding (vow renewal I guess) later in the summer. I already have the dream bridal gown for the large wedding but I’m looking for something like a white cocktail dress for the civil ceremony.

    I found some knee length wedding dresses but obviously I don’t want to spend another ,000.00 on the civil ceremony. I am willing to spend a few hundred but I can’t find anything that I like! I also think I’ve exhausted my options for having one ordered.

    Are there any good stores that people could recommend in either country? Or even online?

      User, it doesn’t matter that Nancy Reagan attended Prince Andrew’s wedding. That was a far larger and more elaborate wedding than a second son would normally have received (as remarked at the time, by the way), and the reason was that Charles’s wedding in ’81 had resulted in so much positive media attention and such a major tourist bounce that the country was hoping for a repeat. The economy of Britain was also in better shape in 1986.

People from the “Heartland” are outraged that they must suffer the “spiritual and patriotic bankruptcy” of places like Boston, New York, New Orleans, Los Angeles and Sanfrancisco. People of the coasts belitlle the people who live in “the Gap between the coasts” as Rednecks and hicks.

    What is the matter with severing our ties of federation such that if people in New York who favor liberal social policy no longer wish to call God-fearing Christians who “bitterly cling to their guns and religion” they don’t have to.

    Pentecostals in Nebraska would no longer have to fear God “removing his hand of protection” from them because people in San Francisco think that it is ok for men to wear wedding dresses and for women to have wives.

    If such a disollution of the USA were to occur, which regions/states, if any, do you think would emerge as the most prosperous?

    Which regions/states, if any, would prove to be breeding grounds for violent discontent, insurrection and even terrorism?

    Would there be any regions/states overrun by Warlords like in Rwanda? Would any regions/states resort to ethnic cleansing?

    Would any regions/states turn to theocracy, Taliban-style?

    What, if any, are the modern arguments for political union?
    I’m all about provoking thinking…

      That is what our Federal form of government is.
      Technically.
      Of we paid more attention to the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, it would work a lot better than it does.
      Except for Interstate Commerce, we could and should get rid of a helluva lot of Federal legislation and devolve most Federal functions back to the individual States for exactly the reasons you cite.

      The only problem with this is that some States might attempt to use the voting power of large cities to overpower their suburban and rural populations and impose laws that do not take their interests into consideration.
      In your example of New York, for instance, it is not as Blue State as you think. With the exception of Manhattan and the burroughs and a small section upstate, the rest of the State is RED – yet they out-vote the wishes of those folks in State-wide and federal election, usually electing liberal presidential, gubernatorial, and Senatorial candidates, because of their large populations.
      See also very RED California, where only the large population areas of San Francisco and LA are Blue and overwhelm the rest of the State because of the population.
      There are very few TRUE BLUE States.
