1. QUESTION:
   Wearing a fascinator as a wedding guest?
   I’m going to a wedding next week, to the full thing. I wanted to do somethng with my hair that makes it a bit different and not like I have it every day. Was going to curl it and wear a fascinator on a hairband. But do you wear the fascinator through the full wedding, even at the reception? I don’t want to take it out and you can see where its been sitting all day. Thanks in anticipation.

     i think you just wear it to the wedding, but you could wear it at the party aswell. i dont think it would do any harm.
     if u want to take it out and are worried about having a kink where it has been then maybe just pin yiour hair back with a hair grip/ bobby pin.

   Should I wear a fascinator to this wedding?
   I’ve got a nice fascinator I’ve worn in the past, and it’ll go with the dress I’m wearing to my partners brothers wedding.

   Both sets of mothers aren’t wearing hats to this wedding, so I was wondering if I should wear my fascinator.

   I’m not doing anything special to my hair so I thought, as its on a thin hair band, it can keep my long hair off my face nicely.

     I say go for it, just because they arne’t wearing headgear dosen’t mean you shouldn’t, it is a special occasion and that means dressing up and wearing something you might not wear everyday, hold your head high, be bold!

     no i personally like a fascinator better than a hat and its so much more practical and dont have to worry about any unexpected wind blowing it away hehe also hats can get in the way

   What part of the wedding does this look like im invited to?
   I have an invite from someone who isnt very close (but shes worked with my partner for years) for their wedding at a banqueting suite. Im not sure what religion they are so i dont know whether they could be having the ceremony at this place. Its 2pm and my partner seems to think were invited to all of it but I dont think we are. Do people sometimes get invited to the meal and not the ceremony or not? Also would i be too overdressed to wear a dress and fascinator or should i dim my outfit down a bit?

     Without knowing the actual wording I can’t tell you what you’re invited to. What I can tell you is you’re obviously invited to that place at that time. If the invite doesn’t mention the ceremony at all I would just assume you’re invited to only the reception. If it mentions the ceremony I would assume that it’s both and they’re in the same location.

     Yes, people sometimes get invited to the reception and not the ceremony. We’re doing that ourselves, but have nicely mentioned that it’s an intimate ceremony and that they’re being invited to the reception only.

     A nice dress is always a good option but I would scrap the fascinator. Obviously even if this is a ceremony, this isn’t in a church. Meaning that you would be overdressed.

    What is the British tradition of wearing fancy hats to weddings (I’m American & have a UK wedding to go to)?!
    I have lived in the UK for 5 years, but have only just been invited to my first wedding in this country! It’s my understanding that women usually wear fancy hats (or sometimes feather fascinators) to weddings? I am a bit reluctant to do so because I think I’ll look stupid! Am I expected to wear a hat, and/or if I don’t, will I be the only one without one? Is it OK to wear a fascinator instead, as I think I may feel a bit more comfortable wearing one of those (plus they’re a bit less expensive than hats!) Any advice would be really appreciated!!!

      There’s no obligation for you to wear a hat, except if you’re one of the principles. A feather creation will look good, depending on the style of outfit that you choose.

    Anyone know where to buy very simple and fairly small fascinators, or buy the accessories to make your own?
    My mum is wearing a pale blue dress to my wedding in Lindos in June and I’d like to buy her one or make one, just with the simalay material and maybe a few matching pearls or jewels. Any ideas? She only wants to wear something fairly simple, small and elegant. Can anyone help?

    I have a wedding to go to tomorrow and need to wear a fascinator how do you do it?
    I have bought a fasicantor and it has a hair slide attached to it. How do i put it in my hair? Meaning do i put the hairslide down, up, side wards?

    Once it is in how can i stop it from falling out?

    Where abouts should it sit on my head?

    • ANSWER:
      By hair slide, do you mean a comb? If so, the comb would go down. If it’s not staying in place, back comb a tiny bit of my hair so it stays and then pin it. You can also spray the hair really well where you’re going to wear the fascinator and let the spray dry a little and then put the comb into place.

      Wear to wear it depends on the fascinator. Some wear them just off-center. Some people pull their hair back, and place the fascinator just above the band that holds their hair back. It’s really up to you, I don’t think there is a wrong way to wear them (well never wear a fascinator mid-on or you’ll look like a potted plant).

      I’d say light tan or beige, something neutral. Black may look to ‘heavy’. Although if you wear strappy sandals they would look nice.

      Beatrice’s wasn’t a fascinator, it was a hat. Anyway, it was Fugly with capital F, it was plain ridiculous, so was her sister’s peacock creation.

      Answer: First of all, don’t upstage the couple. That means don’t wear white, don’t be tempted to go more formal than you think the couple will be, and don’t dress to call excessive attention to yourself (e.g. a super short miniskirt or a sequined tie.) After that caveat, try to dress appropriately for the time of day and the setting. A Sunday afternoon wedding generally means a coat and tie (perhaps with light-colored slacks) and flowing dresses. An evening wedding calls for a suit, or coat and tie with dark slacks. Unless the invitation specifically calls for it, never wear blue jeans, even if the invite says casual. Casual in this case means your best casual, not your weekend at home casual

      Most people don’t wear hats to weddings, so personally I wouldn’t. It’s probably going a little overboard, I would play up the jewelry instead

    Hi everyone.

    I need your help. I am getting married in September and was just wanting your advice. I want to have a fingertip veil and I was planning to have it on all night, but I am tossing up whether I should have a hair feather fascinator. I really like them but really want a veil as well. I am a bigger girl, so I am wanting to feel more secure on the night by having my veil down my back covering some of my arms.. Is it too much to have both? Which one should I opt for?       You could wear a lightweight tiara with your veil, that would look pretty, or you could wear the veil for the wedding and the reception and then replace it with a sheer bolero or shrug for the dancing. Have a happy wedding!

    I am going to the UK for the first time with my Scottish boyfriend to visit family and friends and most importantly, attend a wedding on the west coast of Scotland. I have been to many American weddings and almost always wear little black dresses, along with many other guests. Is this acceptable in Scotland?     Namely, on the point of quality. I’m only wearing it for one day so not like it has to stand the test of time, but I don’t want it to look cheap.

    I would be pairing it with a matching bolero and a large fascinator in my hair. Wedding location is in the woods right off the beach, to take place this July.

    Yeah, the straps are a concern for me. It’s hard to see them in the picture, they do look a little flimsy and I do have a large chest. I would have no problem changing out the straps for something wider if need be.
    I want a bolero/shrug because that’s my part of my vision, not trying to hide anything! When I try on dresses and then add the bolero I just feel it completes the look I’m going for. Yes, it would hide the straps though, which I’m okay with, not like I would wear the bolero the whole day either.

      Oh Perse, this dress is really nice!!! And, the price, well, you cannot beat that!! I especially like the detail in the bust, that it is not strapless and does not have a train. Sounds perfect for your wedding.

      A word about boleros: this may not be the dress for that jacket style. Please consider looking at shrugs. A shrug is not a shawl. A shrug is a very short jacket type garment with sleeves, a back and a teeny weeny front. This style will be ideal for your dress as the shrug will not cover that beautiful bodice and halter neckline. Think about it.

      Edit: if you do widen the straps, here is the way to do so: Leave the present straps exactly the way they are and add a wider strap BEHIND them. This will not interfere with the design integrity of the dress while making the straps wider by this slight, easy alteration. You may also want to be absolutely certain the closure fasteners behind your neck are strong, if not, change them out or reinforce the stitches as it is ultra common for a wardrobe malfunction to happen with these type of halters. Lastly, this is your opportunity to make the straps a criss cross back style. In which case, I would still use as much as the original strapping as you can while backing it as mentioned above to make up the length difference of the criss cross style alteration.

    Why don’t wedding sites or magazines have more pictures of brides with short hair?
    I am having mine cropped short, like Kylie Minogue has hers as my b/f (bravely) confessed that he thinks my long hair ages me and I have decided to cut it really short again (he met me when I had hair like a pixie) but I cannot find any inspiration for head-dresses or suggestions for really short hair, why do they presume that all brides have long hair??? So annoying!!! Would you go for a small tiara or a feather fascinator? (kind of like a plume thing on a clip or comb)
    Long hair looks prettier on some people I agree, but if it doesn’t suit you it just makes you look old and ugly, so why have long hair just because it’s popular? I have to say that everyone is different, and long hair just does not suit me at all, and at least my b/f was honest and told me, so that I don’t look haggard on my wedding day!!!

      The bridal magazines do not feature brides with short hair because it’s not good for advertising.

      See, the tiaras and all that are made for up-do hairstyles. Also, veils are made so that they have enough hair to grip onto. Manufacturers of these tiaras want to advertise, but they can’t advertise if the models have pixie hair.

      There are some headband styles you could go with if you wanted a veil or tiara. But with all of your long hair pulled up and back away from your face, it will have that younger look that you’re going for. Why not keep it long until after the wedding, and then crop it all off?

    I am wearing a grey chiffon suit to my sons wedding and want to know the best colour to accessorize. NOT BLACK
    I would like something to bring the suit alive. It is grey chiffon with some frilly detail on the top. I don’t want to blend into the background. I need shoes, handbag and a fascinator not a hat! I have tried grey and black and did not like it at all.
    I am 40 something. Have a wicked sense of humour, and like to think that I am reasonably up to date with fashion.

      For a classic look, try neutral tone pearl accessories. Large faux pearls will look funkier than a thin strand. A multi strand choker would be good if it doesn’t fight with the trim you mentioned. A multi strand cuff bracelet and drop earrings should add enough detail.

      If your coloring is cool, then why not go all grey with the bag and shoes, but wear diamond jewelry (or tasteful faux)? Just a little touch of cool sparkle on your handbag–like a rhinestone clasp–l can pull it all together. Go with single, larger stones if you can.
      Cluster settings and cocktail rings are out of style right now.

      Or, pick a silver/platinum handbag and shoes instead of basic grey to kick it up a notch.

      There’s also a chance that the right green will work in jewelry, but again, keep it simple with large, clear stones in simple settings.

      If you haven’t picked out the fascinator yet, then that might help you set the color scheme as many have more than one color in accessorizing the feathers or flowers.

      Half the fun of something like this is in experimenting before the big day. Good luck. I really like your attitude!

      Try a smoky eye, you could even use deep purples with this…. but only do that if you’re really good at doing makeup.

    Wedding Etiquette – white dress embroidered with green?
    I have bought an outfit to wear to my boyfriends’ brothers’ wedding, and I am now panicking about whether or not it is appropriate!

    The dress is white, knee length, not too fitted or at all revealing, but has lots of green embroidery and thick green belt/sash around the waist that ties at the back. I plan to wear it with a green bag, green shoes, green fascinator and green jewellery. However I have now read that wearing white is NEVER acceptable at a wedding!

    The bride is wearing lilac but I am now worried that my dress may be inappropriate even though I thought it was just a pretty summery dress!

      Personally I think the whole not wearing white is a little silly. Are you planning to show up in a bridal gown? If not, then it’s pretty hard to outshine an all-done-up bride. It’s her day, there is no competition for attention, no matter what you end up wearing!

      Also, since she is wearing lilac the white thing really isn’t an issue anyway … and I just went to a wedding and wore a yellow dress. I didn’t know what the bride was wearing …. would I have been a bad guest for what I was wearing, if she had picked yellow? No. Because I wasn’t purposely doing anything. I really think the whole “outshining” the bride thing is more intention versus the actual outfit you pick to look nice for the day.

    What colour shoes with a porcini coloured dress?

    What colour shoes would look good? i do prefer heels although the venue has specified no stilettos.

      If you stick with Mushroom throughout you may look a little washed out.
      How about picking out the colour in the waistband and matching your accessories to that?
      Altenativley – Mushroom/Procini looks amazing teamed with “Teal” as will your hair.

      As for shoes – have a look for wedges – you still have the hight of the heel but no stilletoes to damage the floor.

    Sheer red lip for my wedding?
    My dress is a satin ivory mermaid dress. I’m wearing a cage veil with a red/burgundy-ish velvet hair fascinator in my hair. The theme is kind of vintage Hollywood. =) Anyway, I’m not big on bright red lips, but I think that a sheer red stain would look nice. The rest of my make up will be pretty natural with a little liquid liner on the outer half of my eye with full eyelashes. Not much eye shadow except maybe for contouring.

    What are some nice sheer reds out there? I have fair-medium skin (medium for the wedding lol) with a slight olive tone to it. Long lasting lip color would be best. =)

      Try not to go too far outside your comfort level… your wedding makeup should be an improved version of yourself! You don’t want to look back on pictures and say “What was I thinking?!” If you’re looking for a natural red tint, try Black Honey Almost Lipstick from Clinique. The down-side is it isn’t very long-lasting, but its sheer, so very easy to reapply with perfection! Congrats!
