   Wedding Guest Outfits?
   I’m going to a wedding next week and weve been told the women are meant to wear cream or choc brown… I cant find any nice dresses or anything anywhere! I’m 20 and all the dresses or skirts ive seen seem to be a bit old fashioned..? Does anyone know any websites where I could buy something online? Thanks.

   • ANSWER:
     The only time I have seen colour co-ordinated wedding guests in on the pages of Hello magazine when the rich & famous or “wannabees” get hitched. Personally I find it pretentious and unbelievably rude – not all colours suit every one and I would never dream of telling a guest what they can or can’t wear. Unless it’s an outfit that you’ll wear again forget the whole thing and don’t go. How much money would they like you to waste?

     Since it is your SISTER getting married, I suggest you choose something formal but not so overly extravagant, that you’re going to look better than the bride

     If I were you, I’d choose a ‘special occasion’ dress from Forever21. I also saw some great party dresses that could be used as formal wedding guest dresses from Dillard’s.

     Worst: Fergies girls, especially the one with the ill-fitting multicolored dress.

     Don’t be too formal, don’t outshine the bride, and don’t wear too much black. If you wear a black dress, for example, it gives a slight impression that you’re unhappy about the wedding.
     A sort of association with funerals.

     Wear something pretty, respectful(?) and preferably a brightish colour.

      Yes it does. A teen girl at a wedding looks pretty wearing a dress if u don’t and wear jeans they might think ur a tomboy. sry bt i had to say that. what king of dress? I’ll say a mini one. One with the color of ur choice. The pretties would be a light pink on thats thight around ur waist so u could show it off and one that has no sleeves 2 show thoose arms. Ot has 2 have a deep V not 2 deep cuz member it’s a wedding and the bride always wants 2 be the center of attention. It has to be knee lenght that flows away 4rm ur legs. With some pretty heels or flats. Ur hair should be down and it would look totally pretty with curls. (u can do that with the curling iron) No headband and if u have bangs even better they looke so cute on dresses. 4 assesories u should wear a simple dimond necklace a dimond braclet and dimond ring. Big hoop earings that sparkle and say i’m pretty look at the awsome dress i picked out. Plus a hand bag u now the ones u hond with ur hands. Don’t get the ones that u have 2 put over ur shoulder and hang they just ruine the dress completly. Thats all i have 2 say hope i helped and have a great time at the wedding. Remember the dress can be any color u want. The color u like. Just remember it has 2 match and the most important don’t stand out 2 much cause the bride likes to be the canter of attention. BYE

      Black or white are the usual colours that you can wear, but these are often boring. Pink (usually a dusky one) goes lovely with grey. Also, how about blue? Dark or light, whichever looks better. I think that’s about it that would look nice, hope you have a wonderful time. ^^

      The hat’s not outlandish at all. Believe it or not, it’s very much the sort of thing that one would wear to a fashionable wedding. Have you ever looked at the hats that upper-crust British people wear to weddings and to Ascot? I like the dress, too.

      However, it’s true that the hat and dress together, both in black, could look rather funereal. The last time I wore a black sheath dress to a wedding, my hat was deep pink and I also wore a cashmere shawl in a slightly different shade of intense pink.

      So you need color. And I’d wear some bright bangles — gold or in color –on one of your arms but avoid much other jewelry.

    Wedding guest outfit ideas!?
    I’ll be going to a co-workers wedding near the end of June. So it will be spring/summer and it’s an outdoor wedding (given the weather is nice). I have no idea what to wear and how to wear my hair. I don’t want to look too “weddingish”. I am blonde, blue eyes, tan-ish skin, and 5’4 if that helps.       I don’t expect the points, just hope it will give you some ideas. When shopping for a dress, look for the colors aqua blue, pink, and baby yellow colors look good on blonde’s with blue eyes and tan skin.

      Go for classy, not clubbing, and not a prom style dress. An A line dress with spaghetti straps. The skirt should go to your knees not poofy but not skin tight either. Then a matching wrap if it gets cold. Cleavage is fine but not have the girls bursting out.

    WEDDING GUEST OUTFIT?
    I have a wedding to go to at the end of March. What can I wear? I’m not a dress kinda girl but will wear one if need be but am trying to think of an alternative! I’m nearly 30-ten lol.       Hillary Clinton pantsuit!
      It’s not a dress, it’s warmer than a dress, and it comes in a variety of muted or deep colors(or non colors like black and grey, sometimes lightly patterned) for people such as yourself who don’t want anything too loud or bursting with Springtime estrogen.
      I can’t recommend good colros unless I know the colors of your skin, hair, etc. but maroon/deep red, deep purple, cream, and the slight possibility of navy seem like good color options.
      A nice pantsuit, some heels, simple make up, and a lovely updo will pass just fine for a formal event and if you feel underdressed, add a flower hairpiece(like a hairclip or fake flower instead of a wreath) and/or a nice purse.
      Wouldn’t add too much jewelry though, and if you instead would like to wear your hair down that’s okay too but it’s not as classy as the updo.

15. QUESTION:
    Wedding Guest Outfit Advice Needed!?
    I am invited to a wedding on a Saturday at 3pm (in mid May). It will be held in a garden (unless it rains, in which case it will be at their church). The reception is then being held at a local restaurant that is self-described as “expensive” at 7 or 8pm in the evening.

    Is it better to wear a cotton navy dress to accommodate the afternoon wedding venue or a black chiffon cocktail dress, which is more appropriate for the reception? OR, is it better to change in the 2-4 hours we’ll have in between the wedding and reception (its all local, so we’ll just be going home in between)….

      i think you should wear the navy one for the reception because you wouldnt want to wear black to a wedding…. then you can change into the black one after (if you want).

    What kind of outfit does a young lady wear as a wedding guest?
    This is my first wedding as a guest. Any ideas of what brands to look at? What length is okay to wear?

    • ANSWER:
      A dress in any colour but white or black is appropriate (white is reserved for the bride, and too much black will look like you’re off to a funeral). If you only have a black dress, lighten it up with some colourful jewellry, a belt, or a scarf/shawl.
      It’s also appropriate to wear a skirt if you like.
      Just make sure whatever you wear, it’s not to short. If you look in the mirror and you are wondering if it’s too revealing – it is. Whenever you have the slightest doubt, you shouldn’t wear it. Slightly above the knee is a good length (for a young person. Over 35 you shouldn’t go above the knee, in my opinion).

    Guest outfit for outside wedding in October?
    My friend’s wedding is October 11th. Its going to be outside almost in the Catskills of NY state. I’m trying to figure out what would be a good outfit to wear for it. I don’t believe its going to be very formal. Ideas?

    • ANSWER:
      If you don’t think it’s going to be very formal, I’d dress as comfortable as possible. If it’s going to be outside, you probably don’t really want a dress (think wind…lol). I would get a new pair of grey or khaki pants and pair it with a hunter green or maybe burgundy sweater/long sleeve dress shirt. (Not totally sure what the weather is like up there at that time of year, but I’ve worn sweaters before around that time here in NW Ohio.)

    I’m attending a really fancy wedding in early October and I like to get a leg up on things, especially when it comes to outfits.       Look for what’s referred to as a “cocktail” dress… usually something that hits at around knee length in a dressier fabric (satin/silk/or something with a sheen to it). Definitely no white/off white/cream — you don’t want to look as if your’e competing with the Nothing too short or too low-cut — you don’t want to be known as the ‘hootchie” of the wedding.

      They don’t have to but it would look nice. Since you’re going as a couple you could do subtle coordination. If her dress is red, wear a red tie or shirt underneath the tux or jacket.

      go for a salwar kameez, you can wear it later on and its always in great style , you can even wear the kameez( the dress part) with jeans later on.

      lehenga is a long skirt and tops…..

      saree might be quite unmanageble for you if you havent worn it before

      Go with the dress on the first link. My sister wore something very similar to that at a wedding in June. She looked very nice. I think the first one would be a bit easier to move around in if you were dancing or something. Either one though looks good. You made nice choices.

    For an “average” wedding amongst your family/friends, I’d like to know what you might wear as a guest – if you can post a ‘typical’ picture, that would be great!

      I normally wear a tea length dress with straps. Pastels for the summer and spring, and darker colors for the winter. I have a closet full of gowns LOL! I’m guilty of buying one dress every time a get invited to a wedding. I have worn pink 3 times, green once, burgundy red, black a couple of times, etc. etc. etc.

      Suitable attire as a guest would be a pencil line skirt with matching blazer and a soft pink or white blouse with long sleeves.
      Dark or black stockings and a pair of thin high heel shoes.
      Jewelery would be simple yet tasteful.
      A bracelet, pendant and matching earrings.

      This was what Princess Diana wore to a similar function at the same venue and it will always be in stylish fashion.

    What to wear as a wedding guest?
    It is a formal wedding, my husband is wearing a kilt and tie, i’ve been to weddings before but they were more “relaxed” and i could wear anything really… I thought short frilly dress wouldn’t really fit with his kilt, trousers are out of question and this leaves only a long dress…I just don’t want to look funny, i guess my outfit should somehow match this kilt…Have no idea what is the best.       You don’t have to match him, just wear what you think is appropriate based on what the couple is like. If they’re easy going, they might not mind if you wear a flowly, patterned dress. You said it was formal, though so a more formal dress may be more appropriate.

    My sister in law (she is my husband’s brother’s wife) and I went shopping for a wedding next week. Our husbands other brother is getting married and my sister in law does not lik his fiancee and has been very vocal about it, causing other family members to get pretty mad about it. I bought a simple blue and brown wrap dress, and my sister in law bought a white dress (with tiny silver lines sewn in, and a few small brown beads at the top), but it is a white dress nonetheless.       She is out of line, and should not have a white dress. Remember, though, she will make a fool out of herself, not you. Stay out of it, if someone in the family says why didn’t you stop her, tell them you mentioned it and she didn’t care. You are not her keeper and don’t need to get in the middle of parents and in-laws – present or future. You are not your sister-in-law’s keeper, she’s a big girl and can be tacky all by herself.

      I’m sorry you feel you will be put in the middle, don’t let them do that to you. Stand up for yourself and just tell it like it is. You don’t have any control over this woman, she’s a adult. If it were me and someone started to give me grief over it, I would hold up my hand and say “Don’t get me involved in this, I didn’t make the decision” and walk away!

      Wear something with spring colors but not loud enough so that you stick out more than the bride or even the bride’s maids.
      Depending on the guest total, a lot of people will mean a bigger variation in colors, designs, etc. so even if you happen to wear something that might not seem appropriate, there’s probably some other person who didn’t wear something appropriate either.

      The color of this dress is great for a wedding set for spring. I think the collar and back makes it look more elegant and formal. I think that pumps are a better match with this dress. Sandals would go better with a flowy casual dress.

    Wedding guest question?
    Is it offensive to wear white as a wedding guest? I have a long white skirt with a nice, light green tank top. It is an outdoor wedding and it is supposed to 90 degrees. I don’t really have anything else to wear and this outfit is very tasteful and dressy for the occasion. Do the old rules on this still apply? Would you be offended? The entire outfit isn’t white, just the skirt.
    The bride and groom are not people I am very close with. They are my boyfriend’s college friends. I have known them for 5 years, but as his friends, not mine. They live 2 hours away too, so it isn’t like I see them very often. I don’t think the bride would really care; I was just uncertain as to the ettiquite. The skirt is just a long, linen skirt.       I am getting married in three weeks, and I would not be offended. I think as long as you do not wear solid white you would be fine. And it’s the lower half and would certainly not be that obvious. I would assume also, that the bride would have more going on that day, than to really notice what color your skirt is.

      1. Shower – I would keep the flats and loose the satin purse, it is more of an eveningwear look. I would keep it casual and sweet.

      2. Couple’s Shower – Stick with the espadrilles. It is a Luau, outside likely… Save the heels for going out to dinner another time.

      3. Rehearsal Dinner – Definitely wear the heels. Be careful not to go overboad with the jewelry. The dress has alot of interest already!

      4. The second outfit looks a bit dressier for a casual wedding. I would wear the asos heels and the purse with the red handle. Maybe bring along a pair of white flats just in case.

      try not to wear too much black
      (possibly its just my opinion but i was under the impression its kinda rude for girls to wear black to weddings as its the colour for funerals)

    Wedding guest dilemma?
    One of my old friends dresses very inappropriately for weddings. I am not sure if she does it intentionally or not, but she always seems to wear dresses that scream “LOOK AT ME!!!” One of our friends from HS that got married a few years ago, she wore a skin-tight strapless cocktail dress that just came 1/3 of the way down her thigh (I’m not exaggerating either. It wasn’t even close to mid-thigh). Another friend’s wedding, she wore a hot-pink slinky dress that clung to her body and was only mid-thigh, but would bounce really high when she was dancing. Another wedding we went to, she wore a skin-tight leopard-print dress that again, was only 1/3 down her thigh and strapless.
    My dilemma is that I don’t think I should invite her to my wedding next year because she dresses like a $Lut. But I know that it will destroy our friendship if I don’t invite her. She’s a good friend and she really likes hanging out with me, but seriously, I’ve confronted her about her outfits before. So have our mutual friends, and she just acts like that’s what people wear to weddings. What would you do in this situation?

      and tell her exactly how you feel. I would tell her that because i value our friendship i would like to invite you to my wedding but i noticed in all the other weddings you attended it was like you were dressed for a night club and that she is on display to her fshion which not everyone approves of.
