Wedding Guestbook

Your wedding guests are obviously a very important part of your celebration, without them there is simply no party at all. So it’s logical that you want to remember each and every person that came to support you on your special day so that you can give them a personal thank you for all the things that they’ve done to help you enter into your marriage. That’s why a guest book and pen set is a very important part of your wedding because it allows you to have a little something personal from each guest that came to celebrate with you. Have each guest sign the guestbook when they come into the reception and drop off their cards or gifts with their many warm and well meant words inside.

Having a guestbook at your wedding reception is a great way to keep in touch with all your guests after the party has ended and you can then send each and every one a personal thank you card or call them up just to talk about the memories you shared on the magical night of your event.

Try picking a guestbook and pen set that not only fits well with your theme but also enhances your theme with its elegance and stylized beauty.

In addition to being a great addition to your special celebration, a guestbook makes a fantastic keepsake from your wedding that you can peruse years later and see all the special people in your lives that care about you and support you in your growing love for your new spouse. This can even become something that you put on display in a special place in your home and can share when you entertain guests at your home or share with your children in the years to come after your wedding day event.

  6. QUESTION:
What type of Pen should we use to ensure no smudging in the Photo Guestbook we want to use at our wedding?
I have a coupon for a free Photo-book from Shutterfly. My fiance and I would like to make a Photo-Guestbook for our wedding using many of our engagement pictures.

Our concern is what type of pen to use that a) would not smudge, b) would dry quickly to not transfer ink to facing photo page, and c) would not bleed through the paper. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Try a pen used for scrapbooking. They are photo safe and will not yellow. If you don’t want to buy off the internet, try your local art supply store or scrapbooking store. They should have sales people who know their products and know which pens will not smudge.

      good luck and congrats!

  7. QUESTION:
Better ideas for a Wedding Guestbook?
I found this helpful article on new ideas for wedding guestbooks:

    http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1599162/how_to_personalize_your_wedding_guestbook.html

What would you suggest? I’d like a unique wedding guestbook idea.

    • ANSWER:

      http://www.idoengravables.com/wedding_guest_books_c/mat_intro/Signature+Photo+Mats.html

I love these! They are so much nicer than just a regular photo matte, I don’t like how messy all the signatures look

I also like the idea of making a small photo book on picaboo.com of you two and having guests sign that.

  8. QUESTION:
In lieu of guestbook for wedding, we want a wishing tree. What would work for this?
We want to have a small tree or branches in a pot, with cards for guests to hang their well-wishes and names. We would keep the tree or plant if possible, and scrapbook the cards with the well-wishes.

I just don’t know what to get for this. We just need a small tree with lots of branches, or just potted branches. But how much do these things cost? What would look the nicest?

    • ANSWER:
You might look for a potted ficus tree –they have a lot of branches and small green leaves. Some have braided trunks that are rather attractive. They run anywhere from to over 0 depending on the size and the store you buy them from. Norfolk Island Pines are attractive too (the ones that look like upside down Christmas trees. Same price range.

Another option would be to make an artificial tree: get large full bare branches from a dead tree or some that were pruned from a tree, spray paint them white or silver and place them in a heavy pot with plaster to weight it and decorative gravel on top. Then string the branches with tiny glittery lights. You could also add silk flowers for a little color. You could wire or glue mini wooden clothespins to the branches (you can get these in craft stores) so the guest can easily attach their cards.

Having people clip the things to a live tree might be a little rough on the tree itself.

  9. QUESTION:
Where can i find a wedding guestbook with a palm tree? I would also like to be able to personalize the book.?

    • ANSWER:
I would get a light coloured cloth book, either a scrapbook or an actual guestbook and i would create an image that I liked on the computer of a palm tree and our names and wedding date and print it out on t-shirt transfer paper and iron the image on to the book :)

  10. QUESTION:

  11. QUESTION:
what’s a real rude comment to leave on someone’s online wedding guestbook?
what’s the rudest thing you could leave?
    best answer 10 points-
    be creative.
okay, something rudely funny- I can’t help it, I’m immature and jealous.
something like : I hope you have a wonderful future together and you don’t get fat like whale again after losing all that weight- good luck with that.
    how mean is that?

    • ANSWER:
May the groom be as turned on and sexualy satisfied by his bride as he’s been by his best man for the past year.

  12. QUESTION:
how to make my wedding guestbook?
i want to make my wedding guestbook in a funky way, please help quickly

    • ANSWER:
What I’m doing is different. I’m making a big scrapbook for the whole entire thing from engagement to honeymoon, which will include the guestbook. This way, it doesn’t just sit in a box covered with dust for years, it’ll be a fun way to display it. Anyway, what I’m doing is making the pages ahead of time and displaying it with this wish bowl poem.

As we begin our new journey
a brand new Mr & Mrs
      We could surely use
      your advice and wishes.
      Share with us your wisdom
      about marriage, love & life,
The secret to being a good husband
      or top-notch first-rate wife.
      Jot down a memory
      a reminder of our day.
A doodle or picture will do
if you don’t know what to say.
Please don’t forget, it would be such a shame
if you left us your card,
      without signing your name.
What ever you pen, we’re sure to treasure
long after this day has passed,
your words will bring us pleasure.

The point is, guests will find their page and write a piece of advice or a well wish and sign it. There will be a space on the page framed for their picture, and a framed area for the well wishes and signature. I will have a friend/family member in charge of taking their picture most likely at the beach after the ceremony while my fiance and I are having ours done, or at the reception. That pic will go in the frame after. I think I’m doing 1 page for each family, example.. Uncle Russ, his wife and kids. The space you leave for the well wishes and signing depends on how many are in a group.

If you don’t have time to make the pages ahead of time, then try to do just one page, and display it so they can see what you’re doing and what the point is. Then have them write their well wishes and sign a pre-cut and sized piece of paper. It sounds like a lot of work, but it will be so neat when your done! Reading all the advice your friends and family left you should be really sweet and some hilarious. My family is pretty dysfunctional, so I’m guessing I’ll laugh at all mine. It might also help with the wedding withdrawal after all is said and done to have a big project to do.

Oh, I almost forgot. (yes, there’s more…) I’m also putting the card they give me in the opposite page. This way when you look thru the book, 1 family gets a whole spead. (card on left, scrapbook page on right). If my book gets to big, I’ll just stuff the card in between the pages instead.

I’m probably only having 30 people, so it’ll be about 12 pages for my book.

      ADDITION:
You can still do a wish bowl. Just buy a large (& kinda wide) clear vase, a bunch of small cards with or without envelopes and display the poem (type it out in a pretty font and stick it in a frame). http://www.weddingbee.com/2005/02/22/wish-bowl-2/

You could also do a questionaire page like this http://guestbookstore.com/wedding.html You can make up your own questions, and it could be done on your computer at home, or you could go to kinko’s for help. It shouldn’t take too long to do. If you do it at home, try to get acid-free paper so it holds up longer over time. Stick them all in a photo album or scrapbook album. Good questions to ask: what every new wife/husband should know? Tips for getting thru hard times? How to keep the romance alive?

You could do the signing the photo mat thing, except instead of having a picture of you guys, get a huge group photo of all your guests after the wedding. After they pile out of the church or something, just have them all gather around, tell the short people to stand in front and the tall people in the back and have your photographer take the picture. On the way into the reception, have them all sign the mat (use an acid-free mat). http://www.thisistheplan.net/image/guestbook.JPG

You could skip the “book” and do a video guestbook. Have someone interview your guests as they come in (their names, how they know you, any well wishes/advice, funny stories about one of you…)

If your having a beach wedding have them sign a surf board http://chicweddingideas.blogspot.com/2008/05/surfs-up-unique-guestbook.html or have them sign the back of seashells and put them in a basket, have them sign a (large enough) piece of driftwood…

You can buy the vinyl record of your first dance song, and have everyone sign it in silver paint pen. (I would do the last dance song as well if you don’t think all your guests will fit on one record) hang it in a shadowbox after the wedding.

You can have everyone sign a huge wine bottle (crappy example, but you get the idea) http://www.mustloveweddings.com/forums/showthread.php?p=340944 or anything that means something to you guys. I have seen suggestions for a guitar, chalkboard (if you’re a teacher by chance..) a vase or a platter… You could have them sign smooth rocks or river rock and display them in a fish bowl, basket, clear vase or with floral arrangements/ in the garden at home. scroll down about an inch http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=84227

You could buy a new family bible, and have your guests sign the inside and outside covers with their very own blessings for your marriage.

You could write your vows out on a pretty paper with a nice design and have everyone sign under it, kind of as witnesses. They DID witness it, so it makes sense.http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.emilysb.com/images/portfolio/weddings/sara.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.emilysb.com/portfolio/weddings/sara.html&h=720&w=450&sz=100&hl=en&start=1&sig2=9WI3cUUBOSIJVENgu_-rOA&um=1&tbnid=D_wANDYNZqBeZM:&tbnh=140&tbnw=88&ei=o8ZvSP3DH5iuiAGA5uWcAQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dguestbook%2Balternatives%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address%26rlz%3D1I7GGIC http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.emilysb.com/images/portfolio/weddings/valerie.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.emilysb.com/portfolio/weddings/valerie.html&h=591&w=450&sz=131&hl=en&start=2&sig2=SDzC4GSD8iBttuYtnXpd-Q&um=1&tbnid=KKox2bdn_9FQxM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=103&ei=o8ZvSP3DH5iuiAGA5uWcAQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dguestbook%2Balternatives%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address%26rlz%3D1I7GGIC

This is all I can come up with right now. It sucks you’re in such a time crunch! There’s a lot you can do if you have the craft skills and time! I hope this helps…

What are some modern ideas to replace a guestbook at a wedding?

Does anyone know of an individual or company where I can submit the fabric pieces and they can sew them together in a lovely pattern?

There are tons of quilters out there. You could try the crafters on etsy.com. I know many people who quilt and would love a project like this one. What a great idea!! Wedding Guestbook Alternatives?!?!?!?!?
Does anyone have any ideas to do instead of just the guestbook? I am debating doing a picture framing (one wher ethey sign it) But I was just wondering if anyone else has or is doing something different out there? We are having a beach wedding too if that helps! Thanks! :)

    • ANSWER:
I am having a becah wedding. You could do a pail and then do wedding wish bucket or vase as I am doing. Someone from the shower got me the vase and can’t open it up till a year later.

  20. QUESTION:
is it ok to place the wedding guestbook next to the bar because a lot of people will be around there?

    • ANSWER:
Okay, I have to answer this one. If you know that is where most of your guests are hanging out at your wedding, what kind of wedding are you expecting to have? Secondly after a little while near the bar just try to picture that drunk uncle walking over to look at the book and spilling his entire drink on your guest book. Have a fun, but I would find a dryer place for my guest book.

  21. QUESTION:
What is the purpose of a guestbook at a wedding?
How common are they to have at weddings? Did you have one? If not, did anyone comment about it?
We’re gonna have about 70-80 people at our wedding.

We are having our ceremony and reception at the same place… here is the schedule:

    ceremony: 4:00
    cocktail hour: 5:00
    reception: 6:00

The ceremony will be outdoors on a terrace, the cocktail hour will be just inside from that, and the reception will be in the room next to the cocktail hour room. Where and when should we put the guestbook out for people to sign?

    • ANSWER:
It is your wedding and you can have it or not but most people do. It is a way to know who came to your weddding. The day is so crazy sometimes you might forgett someone being there. It is also a way to know who to send thank you notes to.
Plus it is nice to look at years down the road.

  22. QUESTION:
Where can I find a celestial (star) wedding guestbook?
I’m getting married in November, and I can’t find a guest book anywhere. Our colors are blue and silver. I can’t find any guest books with stars on it. Can anyone help me?
If I was to get someone to make one for me, how would they make it? I love making things, maybe I could make one…but how? Can anyone find instructions?

    • ANSWER:
You might consider checking out scrap-booking supplies and use a star themed paper to cover an already-made guest book. Or make your own! That would really be special, especially if some takes photos of your guests. Congratulations!

  23. QUESTION:
How do I decorate the cake, guestbook, and gift tables at my wedding?

    • ANSWER:

      http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-planning/wedding-reception-planning.aspx

Check out the photos at site above for ideas.

You can also go to the Wedding Recap message board at the Knot. Many brides post their photos there. It’s a good place to get ideas.

    Wedding Guestbook help?
I’ve been looking around for guestbooks for my wedding and the style I want seems to be very hard to find.

I do not want a padded/silky/cloth covered book.

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
Have you tried Etsy.com? You could look under handmade books…or blank books….you’d find lots of fine pieces I’d bet-for a very good price that would be totally unique. And you’d be giving the money to a fine artist who is trying to make a living. So everybody would benefit!

I’d like to make my own Wedding Guestbook
Does anyone have any ideas or pictures and directions?

    Anything would help :)
    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
I had considered doing this, but it was just too much work for me at the time. I was told to get some scrap booking materials – card stock could be the pages and you’d have to fill in the headings and lines.

For the covers – front and back – you could use thick card stock or cardboard and attach fabric – you’d probably have to attach it with glue.

For an easy route, you may want to check Wal Mart – then add your colors to it. That is what I did with the ring pillow I bought.

  32. QUESTION:
    where can I buy a wedding guestbook…?
That isn’t the normal, name date bs. I want one that asks funny questions so my guests can pass it around during the reception and me and my fiancee can read it and get a good laugh.

    • ANSWER:
Make your own, take it over to Quick Copy or Kinkos and have them bind it into a pretty book.

  33. QUESTION:
wedding guestbook ideas. really unique please!?
I would like to know if anyone has any unique ideas for a wedding guest book?

The picture-frame mat, the plate/vase/tray, the quilt, the card-wish-in-the-jar, and the picture puzzle just aren’t unique anymore. They are everywhere! I have found one website that does the fill-in-the-blank pages… www.guestbookstore.com …. which is a great idea. But only half my wedding guest speak English, so those non-English speakers would be excluded. Not what I want to have happen!

Anyone have any NEW ideas? I would love to hear them!

    • ANSWER:
I love this idea! A unique combination of wedding photo album and guest book combines Polaroid instant photos and hand written personalized sentiments from your guests virtually replacing the traditional name-filled guest book and wedding photo album. Best yet, there is no fill in the blank questions that need to be answered! Non english speaking guests can write in their own languages. Hope this helps :0)

I really hate the questions Celebrity couple, what will the names be, and draw a picture. I think you’ll get a lot of “I don’t know” type of answers. Plus unless everyone knows you really really want children, if someone says No kids–the next couple questions are blank.

I love how do you know them and words of wisdom. A couple of quick questions would be fun. Prediction type questions.

If you rent, when do you think they will buy their first house? Or where do you think they will move with multiple choice. (_) never move more than 30 min away (_) out of state but not more than 8 hrs (_) leave the country within 5 years

The Complete the Phrase is a great one. Maybe do a couple of those.

      Love is ______
      Marriage is _______
      Kids are _______

Avoiding the words “beautiful” and “wonderful”, describe the Bride and Groom’s Wedding Day in 3 words.

Are you with the Bride or Grooms side?
From your knowledge of that person, what is the one thing you think the new spouse needs to ensure happiness?

Or something along those lines…what do you think is one trait that the Groom’s significant other needs?

If you have multiple signature drinks, maybe ask which one was their favorite.

where do i buy rocks that my wedding guests can sign? I want to do an alternative to the traditional guestbook?

I plan on putting the rocks in a lantern with a candle for decorative purposes. I am aware that rocks are free (thanks :) , but the rocks I would like are polished and about 2-3 in in diameter. The guests would sign the rocks and maybe write a message – depending on how big the rock is, then it would be placed at the base of the lantern surrounding an ivory candle.

  39. QUESTION:
Is it worth it to have a guestbook or comment section on your wedding website?
I am building my wedding website and am deciding whether to include a comment section or a guestbook. (I am making the site from scratch.) I had planned to do this, but now it sounds like a hassle and I don’t know if it would be worth it.

So, if you had a guestbook or a comment section on your site, was it worth it? Did people actually post anything?

I was thinking people could post music suggestions, any questions they might have, suggest fun things for out-of-towners to do, or just leave a comment. But I still don’t know if I want to bother adding this section. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I have like 8 postings on my site. We have had the site since January. Lol. And its funny because we have loads of friends and family so I guess people just dont care to sign? We have had 580 hits since January so clearly people have LOOKED at the page. Its really up to you but I would not count on that many signing it. Most of the older couples wont think to sign it. I dont know, maybe my friends and family are lazy but we havent had a tremendous response. Also, my friends getting married in August and has almost the same guest list ( except for the grooms fam) and has had like 4 people sign hers, one being me! Dont even bother!

  40. QUESTION:
I am the “guestbook person” for my friends wedding.?
What exactly do I do? And do I have to go back to the guestbook after the ceremony? Oh, and what should I wear? Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I believe the person responsible for the guest book is very important they make sure all the guests register in the book so the bride and groom can send thank-you notes after the whole shebang is over. I’m sure nobody wants to be left out. so make sure everyone signs the book. As far as what to wear well you would wear what you would wear to a wedding, something nice I guess it all depends on when the wedding is what time of year… what the colors are for the wedding party you could make yourself look like your a part of the wedding party. Maybe wear the same color as the bridesmaids just a different style. Oh yeah you may want to set the book out at the reception sometimes people go to the wedding reception and not the ceremony.

  41. QUESTION:
I am the guestbook attendant for my friend’s wedding?
What exactly do I do to keep from looking akward? And what do I wear?

    • ANSWER:
For starters, don’t feel awkward! This will show up in your body language. You are there to remind folks to sign the guestbook, so be friendly, polite, smile (after all, you’re friend is getting married today!), and relax!. Being relaxed will help immensely in not looking awkward. Your friend is going to be very busy & won’t be able to make sure the book gets signed, so she’s picked you to help. Just think of yourself as a friendly, happy-to-be-helping-type & you should do just fine.
As to clothes, ask the bride what she thinks would be appropritate. Your clothes should generally be nice, but not upstaging the bride & her party (nothing too immodest or overly-eye-catching). What to wear depends on the wedding: if it’s a casual wedding, then casual; if more formal, then something more formal; if themed (like a Rennaissance or medieval theme), then you might see if the bride wants you wearing themed clothes as well.
One thing I suggest is that you bring spare pens, just in case the one for signing doesn’t work or breaks (those feather pens can be such a pain!). Also, on the wedding day, test the pen on spare paper to make sure it’s working before handing it to the first guest.

  42. QUESTION:

  43. QUESTION:
How do invite my church members to my wedding?
How could I invite my church members to my wedding? And how do I know if they are gonna show? I thought about getting a cute “guestbook” just for the members to write their names so I know who will come or not..HELP!

    • ANSWER:
Post an invitation in the narthex (front entrance room), if you have a board, and ask the pastor to announce it. Have him/her add at the bottom, please RSVP to so and so (probably you or a family member who also attends). Once it is posted, people who you are really close to will respond, and those who you aren’t very tight with will forget about it. Most people at my church would probably make a comment about being excited for the wedding and that’s how I would know they were coming. It seems a little odd to have a “guestbook” before the ceremony just to sign up to attend. Maybe ask around and see what others in your church have done before their wedding.

  44. QUESTION:
Where can I find potential Brides for my Wedding Consultant Business?
I am an Independent Wedding Consultant looking for Couples that need help planning there weddings. You can visit our website at www.shaydzofluv.com. We do video production, Tax preparation, wedding planning & supplies, Mary Kay Consultant, & much more. If interested in anything please email me off of my website and if you visit it please sign the guestbook. Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
I suggest a more romantic web address to start with. You can network at the many billions of bridal fairs that go on around the country, and advertise in the local Bride Magazine. (If you live in or near a metro area, there is probably a magazine just for local brides ~ Columbus Brides, NYC Weddings, SoCal Brides, etc)

P.S. I don’t think you want potential brides, you want potential customers who are already brides. If you want potential brides, log on to yahoo! personals.

  45. QUESTION:
Where can I get a large picture frame that people could sign at a wedding?
My fiance and I are getting married soon. Instead of a guestbook we’d like to get a big picture frame and have people sign that so we can put it up in the house. There’s probably going to be around 100 people at the wedding. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Do you mean the mat for it? Most people sign the mat that surrounds the photo of the 2 of you and then later you get it framed. You can always get a custom mat at Joann Fabrics or Michael’s. Or any local frame shop.
It depends on how big you want it!

  46. QUESTION:
Where can I go to have a photo guestbook made for my wedding?
Hi, I found a place online that makes photo guestbooks for weddings, but I need to find a place I can go to in person. What kinds of places makes these? For example, Walmart, Target, Longs Drugs, CVS Pharmacy photo lab, Walgreens, etc.. etc..??
Adrianne – I am getting married in 29 days and need the book ASAP. I was hoping I could get it done faster if I went somewhere in person. I’m just looking for my fastest options.

    • ANSWER:
Anywhere with a photo developing department can probably help you with this. I go to Target for my photos, and I know photo books area available there. I would think any full-service photo lab could do it, but most of them do outsource the work and don’t actually create them on-site.

Thing is, I don’t have a huge amount of confidence that the staff there knows a lot about the products – just that they’re available for sale. I’m thinking you’ll get a lot more information and help by using a website like Shutterfly, Kodak Gallery, Snapfish, etc.

I’m just curious why you’re trying to find a place vs. utilizing an online service? Is it turnaround time? Shipping costs?

Edit: Well, I’ve only used Shutterfly before (which, BTW – 20% off photo books this week) but I don’t think I ever waited more than a week or 10 days for my book with standard shipping. I’m not sure which online site you were thinking of ordering from, but with 29 days to go, I think you have more than enough time.

Here is the link for Father’s Day delivery (which has passed, I know) but it shows when you have to place your order for the different products, it says 10 days for standard shipping on photo books: http://www.shutterfly.com/info/shipping_guidelines.jsp

I’m sure other sites must have similar delivery timeframes. I think you’ll be just fine. :)

  47. QUESTION:
Survey: Which would you prefer a photo guest book at your wedding or the plain guest book to write in only?
If you were offered the choice, which want you pick for your wedding or party, an instant photo guest book that is compatible with a Polaroid PoGo Camera where someone takes a photo of your guest and while they write in your guestbook their photo develops and is place with there comments or the plain guest book where your guests just write there comments only?

    • ANSWER:
We did the photo guest book, and I actually go back and look at those sometimes. We enlisted our adult nieces to take the photos. They encouraged people to be funny and creative, and some of the pictures and captions are just hilarious. I would never go back and read a written guest book again, so that would have been a waste.

  48. QUESTION:
Can you replace a photo in an artist mounted mat?
I had one of those signature mats as my wedding guestbook, but I now dislike the engagement photo mounted in the mat and want to replace it with a wedding photo. I do not speak to my wedding photographer, so I’m not sure how to do this.

Could a frame shop change the photo for me? Any other suggestions on how to change the pictures would be appreciated. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
      Matted pieces are easily replaced.

If your good with your hands, you can do it.

If our not, and want a good look to the frame, take it to your local craft/frame store.

  49. QUESTION:
Opinions on “Working” At the Wedding?
What is your opinion about ‘working’ at the wedding(guestbook, programs, gifts, greeter)? Do you think that is an honor to be one or an ‘extra’ position? Has anyone ever been one and how did you like it? Did the bride/groom do anything to make the day more special (walk down aisle, stand at alter, gift,)? Any thoughts are appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
