Wedding Hair Combs

The nicest of your accessories for your wedding is often the wedding hair combs you wear in your hair. These come in many ways from having flowers on them to jewels for bling, or you can have ribbons if you so choose. You might think these combs went out with the Victorian Age but you would be wrong.

Women of all ages can wear these combs regardless of their role in the wedding, even the little flower girls can. Many a bride also decides to use the wedding hair combs in place of the veil traditionally worn. The brides also like the combs for the reception because they can take off the veil and still have their hair nice. This also keeps the veil from getting torn.

There are so many veils that come with beautiful wedding hair combs on them to secure them to the hair of the bride.

It is an interesting idea to work the wedding hair combs into the whole wedding. This way the combs can be gifts for the ladies and girls in the wedding party for your wedding.

These combs are often very detailed in design and the base can be made from various materials. Plastic, wood, jade, ivory, bone, and even wood have been used for the bases; all can be great looking with nothing else added.

If you want to add some other decorations to your hair combs though, you can. You will need a few supplies to do this such as: ribbons, flowers, pliers, shiny ornaments or jewels, hot glue gun along with the glue sticks to go in it. Get all these together, then it only takes some patience, energy, and time to make some unique wedding hair combs for use in your wedding attire.

When planning out your wedding you could even have a party for the ladies only to decorate the wedding hair combs that you and they will be wearing. What a fun way to make memories.

  3. QUESTION:
where can I get hair flowers for a wedding party?
I’m wearing metallic pink with goldish embroidery on it and I’m looking for something in pink or gold for my hair. hair combs or flowers would do fine. I have thick wavy hair so bobby pins or other small pins won’t work! I’d prefer clips, combs or claw pins attached to the back.

I can’t find them anywhere! any suggestions if i want to make my own or any online stores?

    • ANSWER:
Actually you can find alot of stuff for your hair in the dollar stores if you don’t want to spend to much money. You can create your own. If not go to store that sells just accessories.

  4. QUESTION:
Can I wear an ivory wedding dress with white gloves & white feathery hair comb?

  5. QUESTION:
Beading: I want to bead my own hair comb for my wedding.?
I will use crystals and pearls.

Does anyone know what ‘size’ wire i should use. I bought 26 gauge but it doesnt bend around the beads properly, so i’m thinking perhaps it is too thick or something.

    • ANSWER:
When you go to the craft shop look at wire that is smaller than 26 Gauge..But not too small that the crystals and pearls roll around too much.
You can buy a pair of craft nose pliers that way it will be easier to curve and hold the wire.
Make sure the wire is still not too thick because you do not want the wire to show up alot in between beads.
      It should be beautiful.

  6. QUESTION:
How to use a [french?] hair comb? PIC?

    http://simplystated.realsimple.com/beauty/images/2008/07/06/wedding_hair_comb.jpg

    it’s cute and timeless
I would like to do that but the comb keeps on coming loose. Do i need to twist my hair in a specific way because it’s not working :(

    • ANSWER:
I have a bunch of similar combs and mastered their use at one point. There’s a small trick to it.

You know how the comb has a very slight U-shaped curve to fit the shape of your head? When you comb back the hair that you want to comb to hold in place, turn the comb over so the curve goes the wrong way, so the center of the U touches the scalp, or almost does, and the ends are farther away from your head, instead of the whole comb being uniformly close.

When you get the teeth of the comb where you want the comb to be, hold the tooth-tips right there and carefully rotate the head of the comb 180 degrees, in a half circle using the ends of the teeth as the circle’s center. Push the comb into the hair the length of the teeth (usually another 1.5 inches or so) and it will stay pretty securely.

This takes a little practice, and hair that’s very straight and fine may not hold a comb securely. (Hair spray helps.)

  7. QUESTION:
Is it an insult to the monarchy that the guy conducting the wedding didn’t bother combing his hair?
He looks like he just rolled out of bed. Shouldn’t he have at least made himself look presentable for such a big occasion?

    • ANSWER:
I get your point, and you’re right, but that’s the Archbishop of Canterbury and his hair is ALWAYS like that. I think it can’t be tamed.

Also, formally, the church is allowing them to be married in Westminster Abbey – it’s not that the monarchy is blessing the church with their presence, technically, but the other way around. So church officials are the ones doing their daily job, while the royal family is the one asking for the privilege of being married there. Obviously, in fact this is not what’s going on – the monarchy and the church buttress one another up with this ceremony – but still, in technical terms, church officials can do what they want within their own rules today, while the royals have to follow the church’s rules for them to agree to do the marriage.

      But yeah… the hair.

  8. QUESTION:
how do i comb my hair for my wedding to make it look full?

  9. QUESTION:
I need a unique half up half down hairstyle for my wedding??
I am desparately trying to find something different to do to my hair for my wedding, i have a small hair comb and a floor length one layer veil. My hair is long, definately past my shoulders….if you can give any help it would be greatly appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
Curl you hair, and tie the top half up with a thin hair band. Get the section of the hair that comes from the top part and twist it until it turns into a tiny little bun. Then pin it up! Couldn’t find a very big picture, but I mean something like this…

Something a bit less original would be to pull your hair back like this…

  10. QUESTION:
How do you wear a comb hair clip?
I got one today but it’s really small. It’s not like those regular wedding type comb clips that are big and fancy. Can you wear it with your hair down? Most people wear it with updos…?

    • ANSWER:
hold the clip flat in your hand with the teeth toughing the tip of your fingers and grasp it with your thumb. (kinda like your holding a sock puppet)

then you grab a small piece of hair and comb it back using the comb part. once you brushed it back, you need to tuck the comb teeth under your hair by pushing forward. you can play around with the clip and see what hair would look best if it gets put back.

      good luck! :D

  11. QUESTION:
why didn’t elton hohn comb his hair for the wedding?
did him and his boyfriend have a go in the car before they arrived?

    • ANSWER:
      Maybe they did…

..i wanna have a go with you in the car..REAL bad.. ;)

  12. QUESTION:
Is it a pain to do your own hair for your wedding?
I want my hair wavy and pulled back just a bit to put the comb w/veil on it securely into. I sould be able to do it easily w/ a curling iron in about 30-45 min. Have any of you ever done your own hair for your wedding? Were you happy with it? Will it look any better if I have a professional do it?

    • ANSWER:
I’m doing my own – right now I’m debating on cutting it (it is mid-back and I’m thinking of going jaw length)… But if I leave it I plan on wearing it just like you described, – I don’t know the texture of your hair, mine is thick and naturally a wavey curly mess – but I wear it often the way you described, but what I do, is straighten it with a flat iron, and then put the largest foam rollers in it as possible – this way the hair itself has been flatened and made shiney (I also LOVE BioSilk), then I sleep with the rollers in my hair and when I take them out the curls aren’t super curly like they would be in wet hair, btu they are nice thick and glossy – in all honesty strangers have stopped me to say they like my hair…

  13. QUESTION:
    Boring hair – need ideas?
My hair is so boring i couldn’t even find a picture of it on the net to try and show what i mean. I’ve had same style since 11 (i am 14 now) and it sort of looks like this.

    http://chicstories.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/stylish-straight-hair.jpg

but i clip it back with two barrettes or clips, like this, each side.

    http://simplystated.realsimple.com/beauty/images/2008/07/06/wedding_hair_comb.jpg

i start a new school in january (catholic school) and i really want to do something different, but my mom won’t let me do anything really radical with it. radical even means like just going to school with curls.

what can i do to jazz it up a bit and make it more in?

    • ANSWER:
I think that you should deffininately get some long soft layers this will add volume to your hair. I can see that you have medium texture and naturally straight hair so you could try playing around with and curling it once in a while. You could curl it by just washing it and when its damp spray with hairspray and put it in to a bun/buns the more buns you add the tighter the curls/waves will be and vice-versa. After that just go to bed and in the morning voila

  18. QUESTION:
Wedding hair ideas for short hair?
I have a chin length blonde bob and I’m not sure how to wear it for my wedding day. I’d quite like to wear a tiara. My hair is quite thick and doesn’t suit curls at all and I don’t really want loads of flowers in my hair or anything like that. I know I could just wear it like I normally do and add a comb, Alice band or tiara to glam it up but ideally I would like something different from my every day style. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
A blonde bob sounds super a tiara sounds great idea . Find a tiara you like have your bob trimmed so its looking very sharp and neat and discuss with your stylist your tiara idea with her. Bobs look totally stunning when well cut and shiny im sure you,ll look stunning on your wedding day. Would be nice to know how you looked. Good luck and i hope the sun shines that day for you.

  19. QUESTION:
    accessories for wedding hair?
I am wearing my hair down for my wedding. It will be wavy rather than ‘curly’ and i would like to have it loosely pinned further around my head from my ears. I’m just not sure what to ‘pin’ it with? I have looked at sparkly bobby pins but i’d prefer something bigger, unusual and maybe the same on each side? I’m open to suggestions. I was thinking maybe pin it first with a kirby grib and then slide a crystal comb under the kirby? I’m just not sure if thats the right accessorie?

When I asked my bridal hairdesser what pins I should buy, she told me not to buy them as she would have pins – I dont think she understood what I meant. I assume she meant she has her own kirby grips? This is my wedding day and I want something beautiful in my hair.

Any hairdressers out there could you please point me in the right direction?
Coils are for an up-do. They wouldnt look right in a down-do where the hair is only has a small part of hair pinned.

  20. QUESTION:
Any suggestions on how I might keep a veil on a comb in my hair if I wear my hair down for the wedding?

I need to keep the veil in my hair (not on the comb!)

    • ANSWER:
You can sew the veil to the comb by hand with needle and thread. Or you can purchase a veil that is already attached to a comb or headband.

Use a bobby pin to hold the comb in place.

  21. QUESTION:
How should I do my hair and make up for a wedding?
Okay this is me, I apologize for the blurryness my hands were shaky

    http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad278/ShezgottaSmilez/004.jpg

How should i do my make up and hair? My dress is a reddish purple, and I have hair extensions that go to my boobs XD And I do have bangs but you its comb to the side in the pic. So you can’t see it

    • ANSWER:
As a guest, don’t do anything too flashy/dramatic. If you’re in the wedding party, ask the bride.

My bangs are like yours and I like to pull my hair into a ponytail and leave my bangs down. A simple ribbon behind your bangs would be a nice touch.

For makeup, EVERYONE goes for the smokey eye. It’s a great standby look. Very classy in nearly every situation, but if you want to try something new, try more natural eyes and a dark lip.

With dark hair and lighter skin, a dark lip can look fantastic. Choose a shade that complements your dress, not matches.

  22. QUESTION:
What type of comb is best for a wedding veil..clear plastic, satin covered or metal?
I am looking online for a wedding veil but need some help. All of the sites seem to have different combs available for their veils. Which is the best to have for your veil? Also what size of comb do you recommend for hair that is going to be worn up?

    • ANSWER:
Depending on how thick your hair is before you buy one try some out at Wal-Mart to see which feel more comfortable in your hair. Now as for the type of comb The best is the clear plastic because you want it to look very natural. Make sure to but an extra one in case it breaks on the big day, you don’t want a broken comb to ruin your day.

  24. QUESTION:
What kind of hairstyle should I have for my wedding?
What kind of hairstyle should I have for my wedding? Spiked? Combed over. I have no idea… I have brown semi short hair.

    • ANSWER:
Make it a little nicer than how you normally wear it.

If you normally wear it combed over…then comb it over the morning of your wedding…and add some gel or hairspray to make sure it stays all day. Take extra time on it to make it look especially good.

If you normally spike it up…then spike it up for your wedding. Take more time on it to make it look especially nice.

If you normally don’t do anything to your hair…just get outta bed and run your fingers through it..then try combing it over and spiking it up a few days to see which you like better.

  25. QUESTION:

  26. QUESTION:
How should I have my daughter’s and my hair done for the wedding? (PICS)?
I’m pretty horrible when it comes to doing hair. I can comb it straight or put it in a ponytail, but that’s about it for my talent. My brother-in-law’s wedding is in a few weeks and I’m a bridesmaid while my two year old daughter is the flower girl. My daughter tends to pull her hair out whenever I attempt (with my limited talent) to put it up, so something she can’t easily screw up (no-hassle) would be best. Any ideas? Also, I’m at a loss on what to do with my own hair. I was something simple and elegant. I don’t want it down, or half down…all up is preferred to keep me from dying from heat stroke. My dress is hot enough as it is. Please help!

    My daughter: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee167/frigidfire86/7431_303806625787_636210787_9295427.jpg

Sorry they aren’t the greatest pictures, but they’re the best ones I have to show you what our hair looks like. Mine is very straight and about two inches past my shoulders. Hers is straight as well, except for a few curls at the ends (that I don’t have the heart to cut) and reach to about the middle of her back. We both have fairly thin, fine hair as well.
    What’s with the mullet website?

Here’s another, although smaller picture, since the one of me pretty much sucked.

    • ANSWER:
      For your daughter:

      http://www.short-hair-style.com/image-files/kids_hairstyle_updo2.jpg

The front part is pulled back like a normal pony tail. Since your daughter’s hair is longer, you could curl it into spirals and then pin them with bobby pins at the ends to mimic the look.

      For you:

      http://www.brides.com/images/editorial/2005_brides/05_06_p398_doitup/00_main/003_primary.jpg

Simple and elegant. Be sure to get a sparkling and inexpensive hair decoration like the model has so people will be oohing and aahing over how pretty it is, and less focused on how perfectly done your up do is.

  27. QUESTION:
Help me pick a topic!! ?
I am a freelance writer for a blog and I have to come up with a topic to write about. It has to be centered around pearl wedding hair combs, but I can write anything I want about them. It has to be a 400 word blog- any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
      Why men don’t wear them.

  28. QUESTION:
What do you think of this makeup and hair for my wedding day?
I have dark brown hair, and cool toned skin. I would love my hair to be down and curled like this, and NO unlike the photo, I will NOT be wearing a tiara LMAO! I look better with my hair down, and just feel more comfortable and natural this way.

I will be wearing a fingertip length veil with a swarovsky crystal comb to accent the top of the veil. So basically I will be wearing two combs, the comb of the veil will be covered by the crystaled comb. It’s gorgeous.

Also I love love LOVE the makeup in the first photo, I have blue eyes and I notice when I wear a shimmery white/pink eyeshadow my blue eyes look even bluer.

Unlike the first photo, I want my hair to be all the way down, not tied up in any way, but I also don’t want my hair parted, I want it to be flowy pretty and free. It’s a winter wedding so I don’t have to worry about frizz (my hair is naturally curly anyway and I’m going to a spa to get all this done.)

What do you think of these? Would these be great for a winter wedding?

    • ANSWER:
That look should be perfect! (You should find some pretty scented body shimmer too, if you go with the sparkly eyeshadow! It would be magical if the bride were shimmering from head to toe! Just be careful with sparkly stuff and make sure it’s not chunky glitter… that might ruin the effect! lol)

Congratulations, and good luck to you!

I was in a wedding sunday and got my hair done.?
I haven’t been able to comb it out, it’s so knotted! I have washed and conditioned it a bunch times. I tried infusium leave in conditioner. Nothing has worked, help!

    • ANSWER:
The same thing happened to me 8 years ago. Wet your hair and put tons of conditioner in it, then comb it through with a very wide comb, if you can do it in a bathtub maybe put your hair back under the water with conditioner in it and comb it though, from the bottom up, like 2-3 inches at a time?

  31. QUESTION:
I have straight hair and am looking into getting a body wave?
My hair is primarily straight and I use a Chi straightener on it to make it look nicer. I have a very hard time getting my hair to curl. I’ve tried all kinds of curling irons but they just don’t take to my hair very well.

The only time it really worked was for a wedding and the stylist had to cover my hair in hairspray, comb it through and tease it, then curl — very painful and sticky.

So I’m looking into getting a “body wave” (perm) for some natural looking loose curls, so that hopefully I can put some mousse or gel in my hair and go every day.

My question is, will my hair still straighten easily with the Chi flat iron when I want it straight some days?
And also, does anyone know the price range in general for a body wave? I’ll ask my stylist the next time I go in for a cut, but for now I am curious.

    Thank you!!!! :)
I scrunch it but it usually leaves it a little crunchy and wet looking, and not natural at all.

wow you sound just like me!! haha – i have the same hair, same flat iron, and the same problem lol. I’ve been wanting to get my hair permed to, but just on larger rods so it will be somewhat curly and somewhat wavy. my hairstylist here in missouri told me that she would charge me for a perm and to wash & trim my hair. so thats not too bad, but i dont know what the prices are like where you live, so you would have to ask and see…

  33. QUESTION:
Boyfriend’s mother’s wedding, how should I do my hair?
I am going to my boyfriend’s mother’s wedding tomorrow, and have no clue how to do my hair. In the front my hair is just above chin length, and bangs which are about the same length, then in the back it’s cut shorter for spiking. I normally wear my hair down, nothing special, or I’ll put a little hair clip in on the side. My mom said I should just get a fancier clip and wear that. The dress I am wearing is a very dark brown with white polka dots and lace trim.
(My boyfriend has like half-mohawk that he combs over to one side, and that’s how he’ll be wearing it for the wedding, if that helps at all..)
Any help at all is much appreciated. =]

    • ANSWER:
I think your Moms suggestion is a great one, you may be able to find something that is a bit dressy for a clip with some of the coloring of your dress and that would look great.

I hope that your boyfriends Mom and her new husband have a long, happy and blessed marriage. Have fun, your dress sounds beautiful and very classy.

Any suggestions on how to style my hair, or even pics? i know nothing about doing hair, the most i ever do is throw it up in a ponytail or scrunch it to make it wavy, and i cant afford to go to a hair stylist. thanks in advance!

  35. QUESTION:
How do I wear a wedding veil?
I am planning on having my hair up for my wedding (I’m not sure exactly what style yet), but I’m not sure how to wear a veil. I’d like to find a veil attached to a pretty comb or a headpiece — do they sell veils like this? How are veils usually attached to your hair?

    • ANSWER:
Veils can be attached in many ways. Some attach with a comb, some with a headband or tiara, some with pins. Some heirloom veils may be heavy enough to require that they be pinned in by a dozen or more pins *and* tucked securely into a headband or tiara *and* the tiara secured with even more pins!

How you attach it will also depend on where you attach it, and that depends partly on how you wear your hair. Most brides before about 1990 or so attached their veils at the top of the head since so many brides in the 80s and earlier wore their hair down or had short hair. As the popularity of updos increased the veil moved backwards, first to the crown of the head (just in front of the bun) and now to the back of the head, below the bun.

If you wear your hair up and attach the veil below the bun you’ll need a comb and pins and probably also a band around the bun to attach the veil securely, and you should choose a lightweight veil such as silk or polyester tulle in three layers or less. Lace veils or five-layer veils will likely be too heavy for this treatment. If you attach it above the bun, you can use a heavier veil and you can probably get away with just a comb and pins.

If you wear a tiara, you may wish to have the veil attached to the tiara which means that it would start just above your front hairline (ie. Princess Diana).

  36. QUESTION:
Cut off all my hair before my daughter’s wedding next week? Help!?
Okay, I let my hair grow for over a YEAR so that it would be on my shoulders- all I wanted was a little bang and then had the bottom of the hair flip up and the rest puff up turned under, simple, right? This chick “trimmed” it before Easter when she colored it– so when I went Wednesday, I told her I wanted it a shade lighter because of the summer and to just even off the edges–she asked if I wanted an inch or two off? I said NO, I wanted it the same as it was just freshly cut and shaped.

I HAVE NO HAIR–My hair is about one inch longer than it was last year when I started to let it grow—when she blowed dried it she had the bottom turned under and it looked cute—she NEVER gave me a mirror to see the back—I have very thick hair and there is less than a comb full that is long enough to flip up-, needless to say I can’t do it, and I am going out of town for the wedding so another stylist will have to work with it–which I have no confidence in at this point. what should I do?

    • ANSWER:
Do your hair in an updo so it is swept up and no one will know it is cut because you stated when she blew dry it you couldn’t tell in the front so I am assuming you have enough hair to do an updo style.

Another thing that I did because I used to have super short hair but was growing it out so coming up with styles was difficult during the bad stages so I would do like a “pin curl” style using a ton of bobby pins it was actually super cute and pretty easy to do I just put a gel by Nexxus called Versastile in my hair after I washed it and took strands of hair balling or twirling/curls punches of hair and sticking bobby pins in my hair to hold it all up but make sure the pins don’t show very much if at all. I would put fashionable headbands in my hair so it was all swept up because some of the short hairs would drop out.
The only thing is if your hair is super fine this style might be a little harder for you to do.

  37. QUESTION:
How should I wear my hair for my wedding next month?
I don’t have any ideas what to do with my hair, and I have little more than a month to find the perfect ‘do. My hair is red, though color can change, about 3 inches longer than shoulder length (maybe more).. and it’s taken me a year to grow it that long. It’s also naturally curly, except that at this length it’s mainly wavy. If i wet it and blow-dry, it curls up like crazy.

I have a comb veil that’s got a train to match my dress (http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns_detail.jsp?stid=951&prodgroup=159). Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
Well, you have time. First of all, if you’re going to change the color, you want to do that about 2 weeks before the wedding. I wouldn’t recommend a drastic change either, you’ll freak people out. Book an appointment with a stylist who can do updos, not all can. Tell them when you’re booking the appointment that you need ideas for your hair for your wedding day, you might also want to pick someone who is also available to do it on your wedding day, it would be a bummer to decide how you want it done with one stylist, only to have her say she’s not available to do it the day of the wedding. Take in a picture of your gown, and your actual headpiece if you can–it will really help. I would book several hours as well, so you can have her put your hair up in different styles, and see what you like best. Also, look through magazines, etc., and cut out pictures of what you like. Best of luck to you.

  38. QUESTION:
Are you finding that when a product has “wedding” or “bridal” as part of the name, it’s more expensive?
I was looking for something to liven up my wedding hair a little bit, such as a sparkly comb, barrette or bobby pin. What I’m finding seems to be outrageously expensive: http://www.advantagebridal.com/wedaybrhapi.html I suspect this is across the board and not just for hair items.

    • ANSWER:
Oh yeah – in my opinion people get taken advantage of all the time simply because it has wedding or bridal on it.
For hair pieces you should try searching for “prom” or “homecoming” hair accessories. You might have better luck finding something nice, simple – but not overpriced because it is a “bridal” item.
It’s unfortunate, but I guess people have to make money…

  39. QUESTION:
    Any suggestions on wedding hairstyles?
I have a veil and a jeweled comb to go in front of the veil. I don’t want a full up-do, but would like it partially up. Does anyone have any pictures/suggestions of how I could do my hair for my wedding? Thanks!

I have a very pretty 3 inch comb that my grandmother wore in her wedding. And I also wanted to wear it but I don’t know how to wear my hair. If anyone has any suggestions, and including pictures it would be a great help.

Congratulations on gettting married! If you want more ideas just type into google wedding hairstyles with comb or something like that. You could also look at pictures of you grandmothers wedding if you have any and see what she did for her wedding. I’m not sure how formal your wedding is going to be so the pictures are kind of varied. I am sure that you will find something that will make you look and feel gorgeous on your wedding day. Another idea is to take the comb to a hair salon and see if a hairstylist can come up with an idea that you will love. Good luck!

      I hope this helps!

  41. QUESTION:
Why don’t wedding sites or magazines have more pictures of brides with short hair?
I am having mine cropped short, like Kylie Minogue has hers as my b/f (bravely) confessed that he thinks my long hair ages me and I have decided to cut it really short again (he met me when I had hair like a pixie) but I cannot find any inspiration for head-dresses or suggestions for really short hair, why do they presume that all brides have long hair??? So annoying!!! Would you go for a small tiara or a feather fascinator? (kind of like a plume thing on a clip or comb)
Long hair looks prettier on some people I agree, but if it doesn’t suit you it just makes you look old and ugly, so why have long hair just because it’s popular? I have to say that everyone is different, and long hair just does not suit me at all, and at least my b/f was honest and told me, so that I don’t look haggard on my wedding day!!!

    • ANSWER:
The bridal magazines do not feature brides with short hair because it’s not good for advertising.

See, the tiaras and all that are made for up-do hairstyles. Also, veils are made so that they have enough hair to grip onto. Manufacturers of these tiaras want to advertise, but they can’t advertise if the models have pixie hair.

There are some headband styles you could go with if you wanted a veil or tiara. But with all of your long hair pulled up and back away from your face, it will have that younger look that you’re going for. Why not keep it long until after the wedding, and then crop it all off?

  42. QUESTION:
What headpiece to go with a red wedding dress?
I will be wearing a red wedding dress, I dont have a picture but its a red satin A-line with a corset top and beading on the neckline and waistline.
I dont know what to use for a headpiece! I want to wear my hair in a curled updo and dont want a tiara, does anyone have any links to a side comb that would go well with red?

    • ANSWER:
I am wearing a purple gown for my wedding (our colors are red and purple) and have tiny red and purple rhinestone butterflies that clip into the hair. I am using them to pull back the front part of my hair and also on my 7 year old daughter. :)

For a classy look, try a single rose (either fresh or silk). For something a little more daring, use a silk rose with feathers. With a red wedding gown, subtle isn’t even an option so look at websites or magazines that have different headpiece options to find something you love and then make or have it made in red. Above all else, enjoy!

  44. QUESTION:
    Wedding etiquettes?
It’s for my best friend’s wedding in September. It will be a big extravagant traditional Chinese wedding and the banquet will be in a high-class setting after 6:30 p.m. I’m ordering my dresses all “custom-made.” I’m not one of her bridesmaids cuz I’m already married with kids, but, as her best friend, the elders asked me to do the honorable “hair-combing-blessing” ceremony the night before the wedding (we don’t do Bachelorette parties in Chinese customs). Here are the Chinese Qi Pao (or Cheongsam) I have narrowed down to:

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_495_Embroidery_Dancing_Phoenix_Silk_Cheongsam_cat_2.html

It’s not beaded, they’re just white dots and it’s Navy with Fuschia, not Dark Red as the pic looks:

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_606_Mystical_Velvet_Dress_cat_2.html

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_452_Junoesque_Orchid_Embroidery_Cheongsam_cat_2.html

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_337_Feminine_Floral_Embroidery_Cheongsam_cat_2.html

Which one is the most elegant without upstaging the bride? Fuschia is the “lucky” color for general celebrations (elders’ birthday banquets, Chinese New Year, newborn’s 1st-month banquets, and so on), but does it look too gawdy? Red, gold and yellow (resembles gold) are the “bridal colors,” which are all violations against the elders policy.
The elders also frown upon anything shorter than mid-calf, so that’s out of the question.
Fuschia, non-pale-pinks, red-purple (not royal purple), and red are the general “lucky” colors.
I like the Burn-Out Velvet idea, but I dislike bright gawdy pinks.

    • ANSWER:
I like the blue one(the last one). The Fuschia one is so extravagant you would run the risk of upstaging the bride. I think the blue one is simple yet elegant.

  45. QUESTION:
Attending Chinese traditional wedding banquet….Appropriate gown?
It’s for my best friend’s wedding in September. It will be a big extravagant traditional Chinese wedding and the banquet will be in a high-class setting after 6:30 p.m. I’m ordering my dresses all “custom-made.” I’m not one of her bridesmaids cuz I’m already married with kids, but, as her best friend, the elders asked me to do the honorable “hair-combing-blessing” ceremony the night before the wedding (we don’t do Bachelorette parties in Chinese customs). Here are the Chinese Qi Pao (or Cheongsam) I have narrowed down to:

Actually Navy/Fuschia, not Dark Red as it looks in pic:

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_452_Junoesque_Orchid_Embroidery_Cheongsam_cat_2.html

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_337_Feminine_Floral_Embroidery_Cheongsam_cat_2.html

Which one is too gawdy? I want it to be as traditional as possible but I’m aiming for simple elegance.

    • ANSWER:
I think they are lovely dresses, however if you are asking which ones are too gawdy I would suggest the 2nd and 3rd (due to the detail in the 2nd and the colour of the 3rd). I really like 1 and 4, however if it was up to me I would chose 4 because I think the flower design is just so feminine and elegant.

  46. QUESTION:
Please help me pick the right wedding banquet dress…..?
It’s for my best friend’s wedding in September. It will be a big extravagant traditional Chinese wedding and the banquet will be in a high-class setting after 6:30 p.m. I’m ordering my dresses all “custom-made.” I’m not one of her bridesmaids cuz I’m already married with kids, but, as her best friend, the elders asked me to do the honorable “hair-combing-blessing” ceremony the night before the wedding (we don’t do Bachelorette parties in Chinese customs). Navy/Fuschia (it’s NOT Dark Red as it looks in pic)

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_606_Mystical_Velvet_Dress_cat_2.html

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_452_Junoesque_Orchid_Embroidery_Cheongsam_cat_2.html

    Chng it to reg sleeveless

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_337_Feminine_Floral_Embroidery_Cheongsam_cat_2.htm

Not the dress I want, but it’s a sample of their possible Fuschia shade:

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_690_Graceful_Floral_Pattern_BurnOut_Velvet_Cheongsam_cat_2.html

Absolutely no red or gold or yellow colors either. Much like one cannot wear white in American customs to upstage the bride, those are the Chinese “bridal colors” that are against the elders’ policy. Yellow resembles gold, so it’s a violation of conduct as well.
Here’s the link to the 4th one:

    http://www.eaststore.com/catalog/product_337_Feminine_Floral_Embroidery_Cheongsam_cat_2.html

But this one I want to change the cut-away sleeves to regular sleeveless or slight capsleeves.

    • ANSWER:
i like the first one but the link to the 4th ones doesnt work

  47. QUESTION:
    Bridesmaid Hair?
Ok, am I wrong in assuming that most bridesmaid in a wedding party get their hair professionally done for a wedding? For my wedding, all my girls got their hair done professionally (at a place of their choice and a style of their choice) but it at least looked fancy.

I was in a wedding recently and I got my hair done (hair up, half down) with curls, etc., and when the other girls showed up they had done nothing with their hair, just combed it!! Imagine how out of place I felt. I felt like I had huge elaborate hair next to them, but I could nothing about it.

Isn’t it normal to have your hair done up when you are wearing a fancy dress and are part of a fancy wedding?
Sorry I should have added that the bride did not specifiy fancy, simple, nothing
and the girls all just had straight hair, no style was done to it at all, just combed out and that it’s it. I have fine hair and have to have it styled professionally for it to make it look good. The thing is that now I am worried that the pics are going to look like I have crazy hair, with the other girls having just straight combed out hair. Although the bride never said a word to me that it was not appropriate.

    • ANSWER:
I can see how you felt out of place, but I bet you everyone else wondered why the other girls put no effort into theirs.
The bride should have said she wanted hair a certain way, because she will end up with odd looking pictures. And it’s not your fault!!
I am asking my girls to have their hair up. I said they could do it themselves or I told them I could make an appointment with the person I am using at a reasonable price ().
I wonder if they were expecting to have someone there to do their hair. Seems so odd that they weren’t into getting their hair done and stuff to be in the wedding.
To me that’s half the fun of being a bridesmaid; getting dressed up and getting hair/makeup done.

  48. QUESTION:
Should I get my hair permed?
I had my hair permed when I was 15 (am now 22) and being a teenager with other things on her mind, didnt take care of it (ie. I brushed it with a hairbrush, not a comb, and never used product) hence it looked bad. But now I am older and wiser to haircare I am considering getting it done again. I am just feeling the need for a change and want to get something different.
I curled my hair for a wedding and I thought it was really nice (except the part where it took 3 hours to do). But then I see someone with beautiful straight hair and I question myself! I usually straighten my hair (which takes time, its not naturally very wavy but it’s not naturally straight either), and I think a perm in some ways will be easier to manage (ie. throw some product in so it’s not frizzy and away I go).
And we all know the saying “The bigger the hair, the smaller the hips!” lol.
If I do get a perm, there is then the decision on what type of curl. Crazy ringlets or loose curls? Or no perm at all?

    • ANSWER:
I suggest you go and get a rod set or a spiral set (same thing as a roller set, but it’s on perm rods instead) so you can get the feel for having a perm as an adult before you go for anything permanent. Perms are always damaging and MUST be taken care of properly or they’ll give you the Fugly Poodle Effect.

Oh, and if you do choose to get a perm, get a spiral perm. They’re much prettier.
