Wedding Labels

Favor labels are one of the things that every gift giver enjoys doing. No matter what type is being used, people have fun designing them, creating them, and jotting down the perfect words for them. Favor labels add a personalized touch to wedding favors, bridal shower favors, baby shower favors, and various other party favors. Here are the different types of favor labels and refer to them so you know which type is best for the type of favor you will be giving.

The basic materials in creating a favor label are: Vellum, specialty papers, stiff cloth, ribbon, adhesive backed paper, stickers and labels, and specialty foils. If you have these materials or if you can easily purchase some, then you just need a little creativity and your personal touch to be able to create your very own favor labels. It is not difficult to make your own favor labels or you can design them and have them professionally printed at your local print shop.

There are different types of favors and the major types are card tags, hang tags, labels or stickers, and ribbon tags.

If you opt to use hang tags:
- They are the most popular favor tags used on weddings.
- They are commonly punched with holes and placed on the favor or favor package along with silk ribbon, a curled ribbon, or some other type of string or ribbon.
- They are open tags as no side is adhered to the favor itself.
- They are available in different shapes such as rectangular, square, diamond-shaped, heart-shaped, and circular.
- Most often used in wedding favors that are bagged, or tied to the handles of pails.

For mini cards:
- You may opt to use this if you have a longer message or if you have more wordings on your favors.
- They are often used in a similar manner as hangtags, with a hole-punched and secured with some type of ribbon.
- They can also be adhered to the outside of favor boxes or enveloped and slipped under the ribbon of a favor package.

For labels or stickers:
- Information is printed or written on an adhesive label
- The label is placed directly on the favor box or favor itself

For ribbon tags:
- Can also be used on candles and jarred items.
- A ribbon is printed with the desired wording and secured around the favor or favor box.
- They are often made from satin picot or paper ribbon, although they may also be available in other materials as well.

As special as the favors themselves, choose a favor label that will show your style and personality. Put in some effort in making these as it will show if you took the time in creating them or just hastily put them on the favor. Have fun in making them too and do not be stressed over them. Ask the help of friends so you can finish all the needed favor labels in time. Remember that even though they take a little time to make, favor labels really complete the favor itself and create a gift that your guests will surely remember.

Is it possible to print wedding address labels using The Knot website?
I know it’s not proper etiquette to use labels but that is the route we are taking. If we type in all the names and addresses of the guests using The Knot website can this list be printed on labels? Anytime I try to print something off using our guest list it just prints the page as I see it, not in proper form to be printed on labels then placed on the invitation. If this is not possible does anyone know of another website where you can do this and even alphabetize the names for you? Thanks

    • ANSWER:
That’s a good questions. I just tried looking and couldn’t figure it out either. They probably don’t because they think you should hand write them.

I used Avery Laser 5663 Labels and just typed them all in word. I had it easy because my sister was married a couple of years before me so I just used her template and most of the addresses were the same! I did the same for my thank you cards and CHRISTmas cards! Once you type them in it is easy!

    Thanks!

My girlfriend tried making them herself and she ended up paying close to for all the material and the program and they came out looking real bad.

So when I was getting married I decided to find a place and have them pre-made. I ordered them from http://www.personalcigarbands.com and was very happy with the way they came out. They do have a min order but its 50 cigar labels and it is very affordable.

I answered a very similar question to this one about wedding cigar bands not to long ago. look in the source.

  9. QUESTION:
Should I put labels on bottled water served at wedding?
I want to have bottled water available for my guests at the sign in table because it will probably be very hot on the day of my outdoor wedding. However, I cannot afford to buy the wedding water with the personalized labels on it. I also thought about doing my own labels but I know they would run when they got wet. I thought about getting the monogram stickers to go on the caps of the bottles, but I don’t know if that would be tacky… What do you think, would it be ok to just serve it with the company labels on it?

    • ANSWER:
look on ebay. you can buy like 100 customized water bottle labels for or maybe even less. They ship you the labels and you stick them on the bottles. Look under the wedding category for “water bottle labels”

  10. QUESTION:
Is it okay to use address labels on wedding invitations?
My fiance is insisting that we use address labels on the wedding invitations. My best friend says it is bad etiquette. What should I do?

    • ANSWER:
Proper Etiquette is for the invitation envelopes to be hand-addressed. Your Address(Sender) goes centered on the back of the envelope at the top. The Recipents address goes on the front in the right corner section just under the center of the envelope. This is where you can enlist help from your Maid of honor and your Bridesmaids. Or you can have someone professionally do them. Look for Calligraphers in your area if that is the choice you make.

  11. QUESTION:
Is it okay to use clear address labels for wedding invitations?
I am on a tight budget and have printed out some lovely invitations myself, however I’m not sure I buy into the “invitations MUST be handwritten” rule. I found some clear address labels and tried printing out a sample in a nice script font and it looked very nice. Will this be a major no-no? I really think my handwriting looks worse on such a pretty invitation!

    • ANSWER:
No there is no problem with clear labels. If you handwriting is that bad I say go for it. The rules that say the “invitation must be handwritten” is more of a guide line. I used labels 10 years ago on mine.

  12. QUESTION:
Any ideas on wording for wedding bubble labels?
I’m just looking for something short so it will fit on the label. I am including our names and the date, but would like something to go with it.

    • ANSWER:
This is what I am putting on my bubble labels:

      A little “bubble”-y…
      compliments of the newlyweds!
      (our names)
      October 24th, 2009

Short n’ sweet, and something that will hopefully make my guests smile/giggle :)

  13. QUESTION:

i cant get my printer to line up right to print on the regular envelopes and the response card envelopes, either. Is it okay to use sticky labels?

  14. QUESTION:
Is it tacky to use return address labels for wedding invitations?

It’s not a very formal wedding and I can print my own address labels off my computer for free. Thanks for everyone’s help!!
    or even the response cards

    • ANSWER:
Yes it is considered rude. Almost every invite company will print the return address on the back of the envelope, and even then they only allow the address, not the names of who it is from. It’s standard and doesn’t cost extra at all. You can’t take an extra minute and write them out yourself if they aren’t already printed on back flap of the envelopes?

  15. QUESTION:
I am making the labels for my wedding invitations. Can anyone recommend a Font to use?
I am using microsoft word and the Label feature to do it.

    • ANSWER:
I’ve always thought that the original Garamond typeface from the 1500s was quite elegant and understated. Alternately, if you want something “fancy,” Zapfino is pretty cool. It’s much better than the other script typefaces, in my opinion, in that it’s both legible and decorative. You can buy it here:

      http://www.linotype.com/13866/zapfinotwo-font.html

  16. QUESTION:
What is purple and comes in a bottle or jar? I want personalized labels as a wedding favor.?
I don’t want to know places to get the labels done because I’m going to do it myself but my colors are purple and yellow and I need to know what comes in a jar or bottle that is one of those colors. Ex. grape jelly

    • ANSWER:
In addition to everyone else (lotion, M&Ms, candles, jam), you could do any type of candy. I’m not sure what really “yellow” color you are talking about but skittles are bold, jordan almonds are pastel, Werther’s Originals are more gold.

Another idea is small bottles of wine. Merlot or Cab Sauv for your purple. Chardonnay for your yellow.

Blueberry syrup is also purple–and natural organic honey is more golden than store bought.

  17. QUESTION:

I have horrible handwriting i’m not going to handwrite all 150 save the dates or on my invitations, or pay someone to write them. i don’t get people sometimes.

  21. QUESTION:
Where can I find free CD labels to use for my wedding favors?
I bought packs of printable CD labels at the local Dollar Tree Store & would like to know if & where I could find templates to create my own labels. I would like to have a pretty wedding background & be able to personalize with something like “Thank you for sharing our special day” along with our names & date. I would also like to add a saying like “Love like there is no tomorrow”. Is it possible to find this online & for free? And, easy?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    • ANSWER:
Hiiii :) I purchased the same labels from dollar tree, and unfortunately they do not match up to the avery labels that the packet claims to. So, I had to play around with the margins in Word and measure the cd…it finally worked out after many test sheets were printed and re-printed! It’s very frustrating so prepare to swear a little! lol But it was sooo worth it in the end, especially since Office Max sells the same labels for – bucks…By the way, I bought my cd cases for 15 bucks at office max, best deal I could find for 50 cases. I got photo paper at the dollar store and am cutting 5 by 5 inch squares for the cover. My quote, along with our names and date, is “Love is friendship set to music”….Good luck & congrats!

  22. QUESTION:
Waht name do i put on address labels for wedding invitations??
I’m ordering address labels for my wedding invitations and i’m not sure what name to put on them? We live together, do i put his name, my name, both our names, just our address??

    • ANSWER:
      The Return Address:

The return address should be printed by hand if possible, on the back envelope flap. This should be the address of the person or persons hosting the event. For example, if the bride’s parents are hosting the wedding, the invitations should use the parents’ address.

Traditionally, names are not included on a formal return address. It’s important to note that guests who are unable to attend or who wish to send their gift before or after your wedding date will send packages to this address.

Traditionally speaking, the names of the bride and groom should not appear together in print until after the wedding. In most cases, if an unmarried couple is living together, the return address should be addressed to the bride only.

      Good Luck and Happy Planning!

  24. QUESTION:
I already put labels on the outer envelope of the wedding invitation?
It’s a clear label with a calligragphy font, I didn’t know that you shouldn’t do that. How would you feel if you got this? But to make up for it, I am doing calligraphy on the inner envelope and place cards

    • ANSWER:
I would be totally completely offended and I would never speak to you again for being rude and inconsiderate.

      Just kidding.
I wouldn’t even notice. Brides worry FAR more about the invitations than anyone else even notices.

The people who receive invitations will look at the invitation once, say “Hey, that’s pretty” Then copy down the important information and forget about the invitation.

  25. QUESTION:
I need a professional commercial printer for printing wedding invitations, labels, stationary, etc.?
Do you have a suggestion as to what printer I should buy? Company, etc.

    • ANSWER:
You should definitely have a laser printer for high volume jobs and things like invitations where you want the text to be sharp. You may need a photo quality inkjet for other jobs. Don’t expect to run a professional print shop on an inkjet alone. Not to mention the cost of the inkjet cartridges are far more expensive than laser toner. You should probably go for a good color laser. You might want to look at the Epson all-in-ones for scanning and color printing. I recommend Epson cx series scanner/copier/printer (cx7400/cx8400) because of the print quality and the warranty. For a year Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one. Ink cartridges are expensive, but you can get cheap replacements for which work well here http://ccs-digital.com/ink.asp
You can find the printers at buy.com, usually in the – range BEFORE rebates, if any.

  26. QUESTION:
Is it very tacky to use labels for wedding invites rather than hand addressing them or using calligraphy?

    • ANSWER:
I wouldn’t suggest it. Sometimes it can make the envelope look like junk mail and the recipient may disregard the invite. Also, if you address the envelope personally, it may relay to the receiver that you are sincere in wishing their attendance. I know it can take a lot of time to hand write them, but it saves money too! And if you don’t have the best handwriting, ask someone you know who has nice handwriting to help you out!

does anyone know of anywhere in Australia that does personalised labels on lip gloss tubs? 4 a wedding favour!
i want to give them as my wedding favour to my guests, heaps of places do it in US, but don’t post to OZ!

    • ANSWER:
Any one with a computer, a good printer and a graphics program similar to CorelDRAW can do it.

Go to Officeworks buy some sticky labels, design what you want to go on the labels, print them out and whack them on.

Easy as – I do it all the time. I’m a professional make-up artist and as such don’t want anyone else touching my make-up. I’m a hygiene freak and HATE others even thinking about using my products. So I just make my own labels and stick them on all my stuff.

  34. QUESTION:
Ok- I know I have already ask this but what do you think about printing labels for wedding invitations?
    Check these out before answering!

    http://www.desktopsupplies.com/neingofola.html

I would get the circle ones and it would be on a pink envelope.

It would be faster and easy for me to print them and stick them. (I could print every single envelope in the printer but it would take forever and I need to use my works printer because it’s a higher quality. If you use a cheap home printer then tend to smear when they go through the post office machine and heat back up.) I have terrible hand writing, I don’t want to pay someone to do them and I don’t have a willing friend or family member with good hand writing.

In a world with cash bar, money trees, dollar dance, asking for cash gifts all the hundreds of tacky things people do today….. Are printed labels on wedding invitations that big of a deal?
yes, Pink Denial- I know it takes more ink and it takes an hour per sheet to dry but then it NEVER comes off. If you use cheap printing ink- It will come off when the mail machine heats it back up and it will smear all over itself. Just recieved a invite printed that way with cheap ink it’s a mess, I can barely read it all the letters smeared. And I know they used a cheap home printer. I have a proffesional printer at my work!
I am using a laserjet printer- the labels come in both verisions.

    • ANSWER:
Yes. If you can’t do it properly, get a calligrapher.

Personalized Wine Labels for Wedding Favors.?
Can anyone help me out. I would like to make my own labels for the wine bottles we are giving away as favors.

We are using the smaller 375ml bottles. I am trying to find a template with MS Word or perhaps a Avery template to create them. I am not sure what size labels I need.

I would like to do something like this for example..

    Wedding invitation return address labels?
I’m going to order return-address labels for my wedding in August, and I just have a question. They have a minimum order of 140, and we are only having 40 guests. I thought I could use them for both the wedding invitations and then for the thank you cards, but my last name will be different after the wedding, so I’m not sure what to put on the label. Would it be strange to just put my fiance and my first names? Or should I put my maiden name anyway, and people will understand when they recieve the thank you notes?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I’d just make your own, or find a place that lets you make fewer labels. You don’t want to put your maiden name on there if you’re going to use them after you’re married, and a return address label that says “Bob and Sue” is silly and ambiguous. If they don’t know your address and see something from “Bob and Sue” how are they going to know who it is? And while just putting your future husband’s name is a better idea, what if the invitation is going to someone you know, not him, and they’re like “who is Bob Smith?”

We made our own. Nobody complained.

  46. QUESTION:
Again…with the designer (wedding, etc) labels…?
    Once again…stemmed from a previous post…

Why do so many people think that if you have and/or want good quality things then your priorities are wrong and your marriage will fail/start off on the rocks??

Just wondering if anyone ever stopped to think that some people worked their tails off to get where they are in life and with their careers, and if they want the good jewelry and better wedding dresses, they deserve just that…

Just because one knows what good quality is (and, oh my gosh, likes it!!), does not automatically make them a materialistic person. Maybe it means that they were better exposed and have more life experience to know that all shirts/jeans/jewelry/art work/cars are NOT created equally.

If I was to write about having a backyard reception at my double-wide and have cigarettes and banker’s club as favors…which color should my plastic ware be? No one would make the judgmental remarks that they do if you bring up the high end items.

Why is wanting the best viewed as a bad thing? Would it not be ridiculous to NOT want the best in life?

    • ANSWER:
You asked: Why do so many people think that if you have and/or want good quality things then your priorities are wrong and your marriage will fail/start off on the rocks??

There is truth to your question. Even on this board, you will find comments such as “Its not about the ring its about the marriage” and “Couples have lost sight of what a wedding is”, suggesting that people with more expensive rings dont care about their marriage at all. They assume that you have forgone owning a home and depleted your savings to buy this ring. Thats just ignorance. Having money to spend on rings does NOT equal not caring about their marriage. And the people who can afford it likely already have a house and are financially secure, thats WHY they can afford it.

There also seem to be a lot of divorce experts on here, who cite expensive rings as a cause of divorce. That just makes me laugh! How rude and presumptuous is that, to declare why other people are getting divorced?

There is a kind of self-righteous movement in the United States, so Im not surprised to see such ignorance coming out in all areas of life. These people have an inflated sense of pride over the fact that they are not “materialistic” and frown upon anyone who would spend a significant amount of money of these things. A Wal Mart ring does NOT produce a more virtuous, or pure-of-heart marriage, nor does a k Cartier ring.

      Pride and ignorance.

If you didnt spend much on your rings, why should I care? I dont. If you are happy, thats your choice entirely. Its called economics, and everyone has a different demand curve for these things. Thats why there are a variety of options available, arent we lucky to have all those options? I wish people would respect all rings, no matter what the price.

You cant put a price on love… big or small.

I’d make a play on the type of wine kinda like how OPI does it.

      Pinot Grigi-O so in love.

      Mer-lots to celebrate.

      Char-Donnie and Chrystal’s day.

I love reading OPI’s nail polish. They always make me laugh.

  50. QUESTION:
    Wedding invitations labels help!?
I have a question..Let’s say I’m inviting a married friend but I don’t know her husband shoud I write “Mr. and Mrs Arturo” in the label or ” Marie Arturo” and give her the reception card with allowance to invite a guest. Any answer is greatly appreciated Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
If you know that she is married, you should definitely invite her as Mr & Mrs. To write “& guest” on an invitation to a known married women, could be highly offensive (to the husband and/or wife).

A friend of mine was invited that way once and WOW! was the wife ticked off, big time!

Or, couldn’t you ask around to find out his name or even just ask her to avoid the problem?
