George Town: It was a case of the disappearing wedding planner for two women who were preparing for their respective big day.
She was hardly contactable via the phone. She also seldom replied to text messages and her shop was always closed each time we went there to check on the preparation for the wedding,” said Siti Zubaidah Mohamed, 30.
Siti Zubaidah, a nurse with a private hospital, was one of two women who complained to the Consumer Claims Tribunal about being cheated by the wedding planner.
At the tribunal hearing on Thursday, she met Nor Suhaida Sulaiman, 28, who had similar complaints about the wedding planner.
Coincidentally, both shared the same wedding date June 4.
Both women had signed up for the same wedding package priced at 4,999 ringgit (US$1,700).
Nor Suhaida, a 28-year-old administrative executive, said the package was inclusive of two sets of bridal wear, wedding dais, VIP tables and other miscellaneous items.
They were required to settle a substantial portion of the payment a month before the wedding.
Both women claimed the wedding planner, identified as Mazlinda Abdul Aziz, had convinced them she could handle their wedding preparations to their liking and style.
However, they started to have doubts as their wedding day approached and alleged that Mazlinda had started to become elusive.
On their big day, Siti Zubaidah and Nor Suhaida had to engage last-minute services from a different planner as their wedding dais, designed and assembled by Mazlina, was allegedly not up to expectations.
She was behind time and by 3pm, my dais was not even ready even though the bersanding ceremony was at 8pm,” Siti Zubaidah claim-ed.
Both are seeking refunds from the initial downpayment they had made to Mazlinda.
Tribunal president Faridah Abraham fixed July 26 for the decision.
When asked for her side of the story outside the tribunal, Mazlinda merely said no comment.
