In order to choose a wedding ring, you should choose the settings determined by your personality and your own taste. That is a good idea to become familiar with some of the most common settings that you have a working vocabulary and some idea of what is available.
Bezel Setting. This setting holds a stone circle and really around the diamond. Bezels can have a scalloped edge, straight edge, or can be molded into any shape to accommodate the stone. The back can be open or closed. One advantage of these settings is the wedding ring that he can make a stone appear larger. Also on the panel settings can hide nicks or chips on the belt and can protect the corset from a cracked or stolen.
Please note that if you use yellow gold in the settings panel, yellow diamonds surrounding the panel will be reflected into the diamond, which can cause a white diamond appear less white. On the other hand, yellow gold bezel can make colored gemstones such as ruby red look redder, or emerald green looks more.
The Collet setting is a variation on the bezel setting. These wedding ring settings have a similar appearance to the bezel setting but still involve the use of gold tubing. Wedding ring settings are Prong setting. Settings branch; the people who have little “fingers” holding the gem. This is probably the type most common settings. They have a variety of almost unlimited. These are four branches, six branches, and specific styles such as Tiffany type and fishtail.

In some cases, the channel can continue around the ring, so the piece has a continuous row of stone.

Settings can be dome shaped or flat, and can work so that cuts almost appear to be one of the gems greater. Both opened the job can be very expensive.
Cluster arrangement. A group setting usually consists of one large stone and some stones smaller as an accent. A group setting is designed to create a beautiful work of more than a few small stones.
In the market, there are several popular ring designs, the following popular solitaire ring design that shows what is called: single (solitary) gem installed on the settings. Gems can be in any shape (pear, brilliant, emerald, etc.) and settings can be a decisive force of the gem to best advantage (fishtail, branches, illusions, etc.).
A solitaire can also have small side stones that enhance important center stones. QUESTION:
will you help me ring settings?
My mother is getting the stone taken out of the setting on my grandmother’s wedding ring [her mom]. She is putting it into a ring for me. I don’t want the stone sticking out. I am rough on my rings, and I don’t want the carat of diamond to fall out. I would like to put it into a ring like this. [where the diamond is in the band, and not set up on prongs]http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4901677
What would this setting be called?
-
ANSWER:
Hi,That’s a pave setting (pronounced “pah-vay”). And it’s very good for the lifestyle you describe.
Here is an overview of the eight most popular setting styles (including pave) with a chart that includes a “lifestyle” rating (for people like you said are “rough on their rings”). Below the chart is a little more information about each of the settings, info on how it’s made, advantages, and disadvantages. That way you can learn more about pave settings while also seeing the other options available.
Personally, I think pave is pretty, but it only ranked a “very good” on keeping the diamonds in place, while three or four of the other settings scored better there.
I hope this helps.

QUESTION:
I have recently purchased a gold ring with diamond settings and want to know its true value?
I bought it from a trader at a market, it must have been a wedding band because it has the inscription of;
i promise to love you now and forever, this ring is the circle that binds us together. There are 12 tiny diamonds set in the ring which is 9ct gold with silver diamond shapes around the centre. It should of cost £99 sterling but i managed to only pay £85 sterling. Now i wish to know if if was worth it!!?? Any one know how i go about this without expensive jewelers.?-
ANSWER:
Most jewellers will offer two kinds of valuation. One for selling purposes, which is a quick look over, and they’ll give you a price. Then there’s the insurance valuation. Because you get official documentation and a certificate with this they charge. The last time I had something valued, it was a flat fee of £18 or £20 + 5% of the value, although if it was found to be over £600 the flat fee went up to £25 (I think)

QUESTION:
Possible to bend a diamond wedding band to fit around engagement ring?
I got my engagement ring at Jared’s, and it did not come with a wedding band. Jared said they would have to custom make one because I would need the band to bow out in a half circle. My ring is similar to the one below.http://design.jared-diamonds.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/ring/item_58-5943.asp
I went to Gordon’s jewelers, and they showed me a flat, regular shaped band with diamonds around it. They said their master jeweler can bend the band (diamonds and all) into the shape I need it to be.
Is that possible?? None of the other 10 stores I went to suggested that. They all said I would have to do custom. I feel like the diamonds would be loose and pop out. I like the idea because it’s wayyy cheaper, but can you bend the band with diamonds in it?
Thanks!!
-
ANSWER:
That’s a very sweet ring. No! You absolutely cannot bend a set ring to suit your preferences as such. To even attempt it, would compromise the quality of the ring and in fact, the stones would have to be reset anyway. It seems so foolish and absolutely wrong. It may cost more, but you’re looking at a lifelong commitment and something you’ll see everyday of your life. Sometimes in life, we deserve the best and this is one of those times for you. I’ve been a jeweler for many years and in good conscience I would never do that for you, even if meant losing a sale.

QUESTION:
When buying a wedding ring?
Does it really matter the quality of the diamonds in it?I found a ring at SamsClub that is perfect for me. I absolutely love it.
I don’t have high standards, it doesnt have to be this huge rock or anything but its affordable (3.00) and i just love the ring. I know its less than 1 carat in diamonds. .72 or something like that, i cant remember the exact #.
But the reason why i ask is because I want it to last. Of course right, i mean ill be wearing it hopefully forever lol.
Its a square ring with 9 small diamonds in the center in an invisible setting so it looks like one fairly good sized diamond. Then it has little diamonds around it and a little bit on the band on either side of the main center piece. Its 14k white gold.
So like i said, im not a girl with high standards, i dont have to have the best of the best with top notch this and that.
I just want it to last and to look like how it did when he first bought it for me. I don’t want the gold to get discolored and the diamonds to look crappy later on in 20, 30, 40 years from now.
Im sure you all understand. So let me know what you think, and I’d appreciate any advice on what to look for when i’m lookin with my fiance for our wedding rings.
(like the minimum quality gold, or diamond or settings i should get.)Thank you in advance!
http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=397978
there is a link to a pendant that looks similar to the ring. I couldn’t find the ring online.

But, its something to sort of give you an idea of what i was trying to describe in the ring.
your probably right Nikki lol it could be smaller than that… i was just guessing haha-
ANSWER:
If you love it, it’s the ring for you! I wouldn’t worry too much about the rating of the stones as long as you don’t see feathers or spots in them with the naked eye and the tint or color of the stone pleases you, the ring will do nicely.

QUESTION:
Is it odd to want an “anniversary” style ring for an engagement ring?
I am more drawn to a band with multiple small diamonds as an engagement ring instead of the traditional styles (ie. Solitaire or Three Stone settings) I like the simplicity of it and price. I would then have a plain white gold band as the wedding ring. But they are generally called Anniversary rings…. does that matter at all? Really I don’t care too much I am just wondering how other people felt.-

QUESTION:
One wedding/engagement ring?
Everyone in my family has a six prong Tiffany setting engagement ring and a plain band wedding ring. My fiance and I want to look for something that is antique, preferably Edwardian or Art deco. I love filigree and things that are simply interesting. I think it will be difficult to find a matching band. Do you think it is okay to just have one ring? Finding the perfect ring is like finding a needle in a haystack. My mom wants him to go out and buy a ring now, but I told her, round diamonds and Tiffany settings are aren’t a dime a dozen, but we are not running out of stock, so we are going to look. What do you think, Engagement and wedding ring or just one ring?
-
ANSWER:
It’s entirely up to you. There’s no reason why you have to have a set number of rings – if one ring suits you, then why not? You can also wear your engagement ring on the opposite hand from your wedding ring – they don’t have to go on the same finger.

QUESTION:
Need help picking ring to go with diamond wedding band?
What do you think would look nice next to this diamond wedding band?http://www.shrevecrumpandlow.com/shoponline/details.aspx?cat_id=169&itemnum=DBHRD02231
(The same exact ring as in this photo except with 7 slightly smaller stones rather than 5 larger ones. Ring is half eternity style with total 1.5ct weight with curved and set in profile and edges. Height is ~2 mm).
Instead of wearing a typical solitaire engagement ring, I would like to get another band with stones that would stack nicely and make the stones of this wedding ring “pop.”
I tend to like sapphire and pink sapphire and platinum settings but will consider other styles. Please post pics if you can. Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
How about:A Three-Stone Oval Pink Sapphire and Diamond Ring in White Gold/platinum
OR
A Three-Stone Sapphire and Diamond Ring in White Gold/platinum
Here is a examples of the rings, you can have this style in any of the colors:
http://www.bluenile.com/sapphire-diamond-ring_6069?rf=pd
http://www.bluenile.com/sapphire-diamond-ring-white-gold_5603?track=si
I think the three store will be nice touch to the diamond wedding band, they will compliment each other beautifully! Keep in mind that the wedding band and the engagement ring band need to be the same color/texture. For example, if the wedding band will be platinum make sure your engagement ring is platinum as well. Also when choosing the engagement ring style you want to make sure the style won’t make the rings look “overpowering together” you want the engagement ring to be “blingy” but not too much.
If you can, you may want to shop for the ring in person so you can pair the two rings together. That way you can see if it’s a better match. I hope the style I chose is helpful. Good luck and congratulations.

QUESTION:
If you had a skin reaction to your white gold engagement/wedding ring? Did you replace them with platinum?
I’ve been wearing my engagement ring since last friday. I do take my ring off when I wash my hands, take a shower, wash dishes, work out or go to bed at night. Other then that my ring is on my finger. About four days ago, I noticed that the skin around my ring is becoming raw & tender. My fiance suggested that I try putting a medicated lotion around my finger, and leaving my ring off for a couple of days. This morning I woke up and my finger looked so much better. My fiance thinks that I’m allergic to the nickle in the white gold. When we were having lunch today my fiance said that we could always have the diamond remounted into a platinum setting. One of our favorite jewelry stores is having a remounting show this weekend. I know that they carry platinum settings. My fiance has insisted that I be 100% happy with my engagement & wedding rings. Did you replace them with platinum rings, if you had a skin reaction? Please no rude answers, thanks.
I’ve had reactions to some white gold earrings my grandmother gave me a long time ago. My ears would swell up within 10 minutes of me putting them in. I was not sure if my fingers would have the same reactions. I replaced the white gold studs with platinum years ago. I’ve never had a reaction since.-
ANSWER:
Is it pure gold or gold over nickel? Im allergic to nickel so my ring isnt filled with nickel

QUESTION:
Engagement Ring settings?
I know that a lot of people typically get solitaire engagement rings… But I’m not sure that I really want that. I know I can get it because it’s my ring and I can do what I want, but is that normal to not get a solitaire setting? I am thinking of something like this http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-engagement-ring-setting-white-gold_5846?filter_id=1&collection_id=236
It has side stones and two smaller stone next to the center stone. Is that too much? I have also considered getting a solitaire and using a ring enhancer as my wedding band.
Does anyone know if they can solder platinum and white gold together?
The reason that I’m considering an enhancer is because I think it’s more traditional to get a solitaire. Plus if I use the enhancer as my wedding band, I don’t have to get a wedding band on the side. I don’t like how one wedding band on the side isn’t symmetrical, plus I have small petite fingers, and I don’t want to over do it with too thick of bands.-
ANSWER:
The ring you picked out on Blue Nile is beautiful…and definitely not too much. i have seen much more extravagant engagement rings! You don’t really want to solder together white gold and platinum. It won’t look right. As the ring ages, the solder point will become visible, and the platinum will patina to a different shade than the white gold.
if I were you, I would pick what you like better: white gold or platinum. then, just do both your engagement ring and your band in that metal. I would keep your wedding band narrow and relatively simple if you choose the blue nile style engagement ring. you could do more diamonds if you want across the top of the wedding band. but I would not do something with tons and tons of detail as the wedding band with that style of engagement ring. Especially if you have small fingers.
Have fun and good luck!

QUESTION:
Engagement ring help. please help me?
Well I have been dating this girl for a very long time. I am finally going to pop the question. One day when i was online i “accidentally” clicked on a link that went to a engagement ring, I made sure she was watching. Anyways she looked at the ring and flipped out and kept saying it’s so beautiful. So knowing that she loved it, I ordered the ring in her size. Now that I have her ring I was thinking about buying a engagement ring for me. A friend of mine when he was going to ask his sweetie to marry him also bought a white gold wedding band. He said that its a sign of trust and a way to tell her that you love her and that she just isn’t engaged to you but you to her as well. What do you think about this? and should I do this?thanks for your help
also here is the ring I bought for her:

QUESTION:
Tension set engagement rings: Do you wear a wedding band with it? Or do you wear your ring solo once married?
This is the general style of ring I’m looking at:http://www.moissaniteco.com/round-moissanite-modern-style-bybass-solitaire-ring-p-7578.html
Hopefully I can find a moissanite setting like this with a princess cut. I have my heart set on moissanite, so there’s no changing my mind on that one.
I know there are places to purchase tension setting sets like this one (http://www.robbinsbrothers.com/Engagement-Rings/Wedding-Set/Robbins-Brothers-i24094.ring), where the engagement ring and wedding band interlock. I love the style, but I can’t find that in moissanite anywhere. So what is everyone else with tension setting engagement settings doing?
-
ANSWER:
Can you just buy the setting that you like, and then add the moissanite in yourself?
And sure you can wear a wedding ring, you could get one formed to fit around the bottom of the ring as well.

QUESTION:
What should I do with my engagement and wedding rings after divorce?
I was married August of 2005 and December 2006 I am awaiting the final divorce decree in the mail. A bad situation got worse and we do not speak to each other anymore. (Three weeks after we got married he told me that we never should have done that and it went down hill from there.) We do not have any kids together. He has nothing to do with me. I’m not really fond of the rings he picked out for me. The engagement ring is a bit scratched up from wear and tear and the wedding ring has our date engraved in it. I’ve thought about pawning them, throwing them in our new years eve bon fire, keeping them tucked away forever. I just don’t know what feels right. Maybe I could just sell the diamonds to a jewelry store and burn the settings. I’m trying to clean my life up and start to close the wounds and move on to better things. Any ideas would be great.-
ANSWER:
Pawn the diamonds and burn the rest.
Good luck on the starting over.

Ty you for all for your opinions. I wanted something different and unusual. With my VERY busy lifestyle, (military wife, mom of 3, and home based business). I needed something that was different
meaningful, and would look good on my large but VERY long fingers.-
ANSWER:
Cecelia or Leslie…I am in similar boat and am in the daunting task of picking out a new ring as well. I like the Cecelia because its a bit antique looking…exquisitely beautiful and much richer looking than the price! I personally gravitate towards feminine details in my clothes with a romantic, ladylike feel so I give the Cecilia a 10. BUT if you are more updated and modern/urban in your daily style the Leslie would fit your look better, and it is very pretty, love the oval set in a tension mounting sideways….simple but not like everybody elses. Good luck!

QUESTION:
does anyone know if it makes a difference between white gold and platinum when it comes to pave settings?
I’ve heard two different stories from two different jewelers. My engagement ring is white gold and white gold wedding rings are right in my budget. Am I more prone to loose a stone from pave setting white gold vs. platinum?-

QUESTION:
Did we overpay for my wedding ring?
I feel like after we bought the ring and we were looking at some other rings later that maybe we overpaid. What is so special about this ring that it cost more than another 1 carat ring? Im so confused. Any help would be great. Thanks! Here are the specs:Metals:TITANIUM WHITE GOLD WHITE GOLD
Diamond Total Weight: 1 CT.
Primary Diamond Cut: 4 PRINCESS-CUTS
Primary Diamond Color: HI
Primary Diamond Clarity: I1-I2
Primary Diamond Setting:INVISIBLE SETTING
Primary Diamond Weight: 1/2 CT.
Diamond Sidestone Cuts: 8 PRINCESS-CUTS
Diamond Sidestone Minimum Color: HI
Diamond Sidestone Minimum Clarity: I1-I2
Diamond Sidestone Settings:CHANNEL SETTING
Dimension Height: 6.00MM
I paid 00 for my ring at Kay Jewlers…
The term “invisible set diamond ring” means what it implies: it’s a special form of diamond ring in which the diamonds are set so cunningly that no metal is visible — no prongs, no beads, no channels. This doesn’t mean that the stone is glued on (can you say “tacky?”), only that the setting itself isn’t obvious. Invisible set diamond rings use a variation of the pavé setting that requires a special kind of stone as well as a special setting. Therefore, invisible set diamond rings always have multiple square-cut stones, since this is required in order for the invisible setting to work.
here is the ring…http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplayEnlargeView?langId=-1&storeId=10101&catalogId=10001&imgDir=8800&partNumber=880008103&imageAttributes=true&main=true&side=true&profile=true

ANSWER:
I would say you did. I found this:http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product1|10101|10001|-1|80349018|15051|15051.15057
which looks pretty much like the ring you posted, plus all the specs u posted are the same and it was listed at only ,299
then there is this:http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product1|10101|10001|-1|80349119|15051|15051.15057
which has alot more of a diamond weight and thats still only ,179
Plus, the diamonds are very low quality..I would say that you did overpay for it. It doesn’t seem so special that it would be that expensive.
there is this whole bridal set;http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10101&catalogId=10001&productId=80349100&topCatId=15051&bcCatIds=15051.15057
for only ,299 and that is 2 1/2 cts.
so paying ,800 for a 1ct low quality diamond ring does seem very high.
sorry :-/

QUESTION:
Looking for wedding band, does anyone know about ring wraps?
My fiancé had my engagement ring made. The stone is a 1/2 carat heritage diamond (150-200 years old). The front of the stone is flat and square in shape. The band is white gold, and the crown was custom made to hold the stone (because of it’s unusual shape). We are getting married in September and need to get our wedding bands soon. I can’t find anything that I feel matches it very well. I like the look of “ring wraps” that I have seen, but all the ones I’ve seen are designed for round settings. We don’t have enough room left in our budget to have our wedding bands made… does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!-
ANSWER:
My ring is kind of an awkward shape as well and I had a hard time finding a wedding band that would go with it. I ended up getting one that’s like an eternity band but it dips down right where it would normally run into the diamond in my engagement ring. Here’s a link to a similar design that doesn’t nearly do it justice: http://ourrings.com/ladies_wedding_rings+curved-category-1_285.phpBut many jewelers sell these kinds of rings. Mine didn’t have to be made, I just tried a bunch on with my engagement ring to see which one looked best. And it looks good without the engagement ring too.

QUESTION:
Is a white gold ring for forever?
Shopping around for wedding ring jewelry and weighing all the pros/cons of different settings/gems, etc; (and giving me a headache!)I hardly wear jewelry so this is a new frontier for me. I’m wondering about the durability and longevity of white gold….I want my bridal set to be for forever so if white gold isn’t, then I’ll have to cross it off the list.

If it’s been rhodium plated then the white gold underneath is off color and they are trying to hide that fact….
..any store that tells you all white gold turns yellow or is yellow gold that has been dipped-RUN FROM as they are bullsh!tting you big time. You can avoid the problem althogether by 1) never buying plated white gold 2) buy yellow gold 3) buy platinum.
Do not buy silver except for occasional jewelry…it will NOT hold up…platinum will.

QUESTION:
How well does sterling silver hold up in engagement and wedding rings?
My boyfriend and I have been looking at rings. We’ve decided to put his birthstone, peridot, in my engagement ring. It has a lot of meaning for us because it’s also the month we met and the month we hope to get married. He wants to surprise me with the actual setting but wanted some choices so I gave him 6 different settings. My favorite is this one: http://www.jegem.com/1/singleproduct.aspx?SKU=AJR273010&SH=A=Peridot%20Jewelry~B=Peridot%20Jewelry~C=1~D=32~G=1580^1~I=FinalPrice~K=4~L=1~M=2~N=5~&LAP=0&SC=&Action=4&Page=0&Category=August%20Birthstone%20-%20Peridot%20Jewelry&thumbbgcolor=fdfff7&bgcolor=fdfff7And I found these matching wedding bands with customized fingerprints inside. We talked about writing inside the rings but I like this idea better (haven’t talked to him about it though)
http://www.etsy.com/listing/50597827/custom-fingerprint-wedding-bands-in
But all three rings have sterling silver as the metal. I don’t mind the tarnish on silver, I think it gives jewelry an antique look and as I grow old and mature my ring will grow old and mature with me. Will that last our whole lives or will it wear down through the years? And opinions of the rings would be appreciated before I show my beau
The reason that engagement ring has become my favorite is how difficult it is to find peridot rings that look like an engagement ring and not a fashion ring.-

(Dont pay attention to size of diamonds, etc. it is NOT the exact diamonds or size, just the settings and regardless of how long the anniversary is). Yes, it is not a wedding band, its more fo an engagement type ring but there are people that get a past/present/future and I know some that have that for their wedding ring too….

I would chose C, its nice and simply, but still pretty.

QUESTION:
wedding rings, engagement rings..?
when I see magazine advertisements (like Tacori) there are always two rings photographed, the engagement ring and then a “plain” (no fancy settings) band with diamonds on the side. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Does anyone know what the second band is for?
no, i am not stupid, i know the difference between what the engagement ring is and the other band. i was unsure of the purpose of the other band because alot of the wedding bands i have seen are just bands w/out diamonds.
i was unsure of the whole idea of sets, and didn’t know that those other diamond bands can be engraved. Thanks to those to didn’t think i was a total moron.-
ANSWER:
the engagement ring your beau gives to you to make the promise you two will get married. you set the date invite some people and have the wedding. at the wedding ceremony this is where you’ll exchange the wedding bands. you can either get one to match your engagement ring exactly (what the ads are depicting) or get one to match your hubby’s band. my husband and i have the same wedding band.. but it cooordinates with my engagement ring.

QUESTION:
Where can I resell a Tungsten ring?
I have a Tungsten wedding band, size 7 for men. It is silver/black, and I need to sell it. I tried at the pawn shops here, but they all say they don’t buy Tungsten rings, but they wouldn’t say why. I tried the jewelry store that I bought it at as well, but they don’t rebuy rings. Also, side question, is the cash4gold reasonable on buying ring settings without diamonds in them?
I haven’t tried Ebay or Craigslist as of yet. I wasn’t sure if there was somewhere I could have a better chance at getting back most of the cost with or not. It certainly wasn’t a cheap ring. Is the lighbulb answer serious? I wouldn’t think they would buy them. However, I wasn’t sure about specific stores, or metal factories, or something. Sort of like the cash4gold but for Tungsten or something. I know it’s a pretty specific metal so that could be why the pawn shops won’t buy it.-
ANSWER:
Hi the reason why you wouldnt find any pawn shops or cashconverters buy tungsten ( or titanium for that matter) is because they are not a precious commodity like Gold or Silver. True that it has desirable properties like scratch resistance and solid feel- however these are all incorporated into the manufacturing process- as a real world example lets say you bought a bullet proof Daihatsu. ( please dont get me wrong -its only an example to explain ;your ring could be stunning) So the intrinsic value is probably the scrap value of tungsten which is a couple of dollars as forging the ring at 3000 degrees celcius which can be costly does not matter when someone who cant trade it easily would buy it. As other users have said- if there is a buyer for it – ebay or even a post at your local supermarket might yield more chances.

QUESTION:
Which engagement ring is better?
this one with a .61 carat round center-stone which is not as nice of a color/clarity and obviously not as big? (F, vs2, round, premium cut):http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-matching-bands/18k-White-Gold-Thin-French-Cut-Pave-Set.html
Or one with a plain white gold 18k setting with a .72 carat center stone which has nicer color/clarity? (Very Good, E, VS1, Princess Cut) the wedding band would then be bought separately to allow some discretion in what kind of band to get.
she has said that she likes princess the best. so i will probably get that. i kind of like the round better, but its not for me! the one good thing about the princess cut is that they are cheaper per carat.-
ANSWER:
The one in your link is lovely – and smaller but better quality is the way to go.You have good taste in liking a round brilliant stone!

QUESTION:
Is sterling silver an okay choice in wedding jewelry?
I’ve found a lot of designs in sterling silver that I love, but I’m unsure about the quality. I don’t wear jewelry much, so I’m a newbie to this. I want my engagement ring and wedding band to be high quality and be the same jewelry I die in (dark, I know)…would sterling silver be able to pull this off?I’ve heard that oxygen will darken the ring over time, but you can polish it back to a shine…..is this accurate? And does this polishing simply clean the ring or is it doing away with a layer? I don’t want to have less ring over time, which is my concern with white gold. Anything else I would need to take into consideration? Pros/Cons?
I only like white metals, and I love the idea of platinum, but it’s priced a little high. And palladium would be a great alternative, but I’m having trouble finding palladium settings I like, there doesn’t seem to be much out there.
Would really appreciate any help with any of the above.
-
ANSWER:
The oxygen thing is actually quite true. They darken over just a few weeks but if you polish them even with your t-shirt they will stay shiny. owo
I have a ring my grandfather made for me out of a sterling silver spoon. xD He cut off the spoon part so there was just the handle and bent it around a pole with a rubber mallet. I washed it only once and the dullness was immediately gone. It was shiny and good as new within seconds. So, yes. You should try silver.

QUESTION:
engagement ring setting with an asscher cut diamond?
My boyfriend got me a 2 carat asscher cut diamond, and now we are trying to pick out a setting for it. I really like settings with the two trillion cut diamonds on the sides, but what wedding band would I wear with that? Thanks for your input!!-
ANSWER:
I would recommend a Platinum setting and leave it as a solitaire. 2 ct is already quite large and to add more stones on the sides just starts to make the whole thing look gaudy and something out of a bubble gum machine. You don’t want the other stones to be a distraction from the beauty of the Asscher cut.
Less is more.

QUESTION:
How can i “bind” Engagement, Wedding & Eternity Rings together?
Hi everyone,Before i head off to the jewellers hoping someone will have had the same problem. My 3 rings slip around when my fingers are cold, other than that they are a perfect fit and cannot be sized any smaller. In winter and on cold mornings i am constantly having to fiddle and realign all 3 of my rings (when all lined up the stones/settings on all 3 rings match up) Seems like a silly problem i know but it is annoying at a basic level! Will i have to have all 3 somehow soldered together by a jeweller (they are White Gold). Any advice at all would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

QUESTION:
Vintage Engagement ring?
My grandmother who’s health/mentatlity has been deteriorating over the past few years wrote me into her will getting her jewelry. There are 5 rings total. two are not in question (they need appraised), and the other are her actual wedding set. There are 3 bands (I think or 2 its been like 4 years since I’ve seen the rings). Well I’m supposed to be getting them soon (I’m getting them before anyone in the family gets greedy and just takes them). The one band I belive is silver and I’m just selling it (the wedding band) Its huge and just not my taste and to re-size it will be expensive due to the detail of the band. The other possible 2 (I think) rings are diamond rings. The bands I belive are silver but they were her diamond engagement rings. How come I can’t find anything on silver diamond rings????Maybe I’m just not searching right, but EVERYTHING comes up CZ silver rings. The rings are diamond (I was NOT allowed to play with them). Were there times when you could buy an actual engagement ring with diamonds that had a silver setting/band. They possibly could be white gold but due to the way they aged I think they’re silver. Anyone have any info on Vintage rings? Did they have silver settings with actual diamonds in them (i’m not big into jewelry. ) I will be using these bands for my own engagement someday, and I was just curious.
um to the first poster. I did not ask for your judgment. I am simply selling the pieces I can’t wear. Personally not to sound nasty but the rest of the “family” did nothing for my gram all these years and are NOT getting the jewelry. There are two antique yellow gold pieces I WILL NOT WEAR. I hate yellow gold, and there is no significance to me to have these two peices, and the band is just not my taste at all. I hate large chunky bands ect. Due to the design all over the band sizing it would run me quite a bit. I do not know much about jewelry, and have no idea how platinum, fine silver, or white gold ages. I was asking “Does anyone know if they made diamond engagement rings in silver or could I be wrong with what sort of metal it is.” The rings are old from I’d say the 40′s maybe so IDK. Do not snip at me saying I shouldn’t sell them. I will be using the money from the wedding band to repair and possibly size my favorite ring. The band broke years ago.-
ANSWER:
Yes, they did….in fact they still do. My grandmother has rings similar to what you describe and I believe they were given to her from her in-laws or through the family in some way. Go to a good appraiser that knows what they’re doing and will be honest with you at properly identifying the properties of the rings, a possible fair price if you intend to sell and can honestly answer any questions you have. I wouldn’t toss the silver ones, even if they aren’t your taste. Is there a story behind them? How she got them, were they anyone else’s, etc? It may mean more to you later on. Also, you could pass them on to your children when you have them.

QUESTION:
Difference between a 10kt & a 14kt white gold ring?
Although this is not a *wedding* question, it IS a ring question, and I’m sure all you brides-to-be and wives will be able to give me an accurate answer
I don’t know much about jewelry… My mom has 1ct. diamonds for each of my siblings and I. She gave me my diamond and I have planned to make a ring out of it for my college graduation. I have gone to many jewelry stores but am hassled every time I go in to buy an expensive setting. As a recent college grad, I don’t have a big budget and want to keep it simple. I have been waiting to make the ring for the last 10 years since my mom told me about it… it has a lot of meaning to me as my father gave her the diamonds when she was my age. I have done some research online and have found some cheaper settings that seem to fit what I am looking for. However, I do not know much about a white gold and what the difference would be between a 10k and 14k white gold setting. I already know that 14k is of course better, but is it THAT much better to spend nearly 0 more? The diamond was appraised a few weeks back and is worth quite a bit of $$ so I keep getting told that I should put it into an overly expensive setting. I figure if down the road I want to put the diamond into something more fancy, I’ll do it then but until then, I want to do something that fits into my budget. Is 10k white gold completely terrible? What are the differences between 10k and 14k white gold? Is it noticeable to somebody who I would show the ring to? The only relatively cheap 14kt white gold setting I found was at Jared’s for 9, however, I do not love-love it. I have found a 10kt. setting that is actually a little bit more, but I really like it. I feel like the people that work at the Jewelery stores are just trying to get the most they can out of me and they won’t let me alone to just look… Suggestions!?

I want to wear it because it is special to me. Plain and Simple! Instead of buying a college grad ring from my university I kept the money for this special ring. It has significant meaning to me–something that my mom felt would be set aside for me for a time that I deserved it most. My 77 year old father gave the diamond it her mother, which holds an even greater significant reason for me want the ring… I do not want it as an engagement ring, plain and simple.-
ANSWER:
10k has less gold, which means it’s harder and less prone to scratching or other wear. 14k on the other hand is softer (containing more gold) and will scratch easier. I’d go 10k.

QUESTION:
What is the difference between a pave setting and a shared prong setting?
I’m looking into wedding bands and I cannot tell the difference between some of the pave settings and a shared prong setting. I always thought my e-ring had a shared prong setting, but now looking at pictures, I think mine might be a micro pave setting! Any advice on how to tell the difference?P.S. Any good websites for wedding bands?
P.P.S. I read somewhere that you should not have 2 pave rings touching one another. Is this true?
-
ANSWER:
This is a PAVE set ring: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/18k-White-Gold-2-2mm-Pave-Set-Diamond-Ring.htmlPave is when the diamond is closer to the ring itself and set within the ring almost. (Notice that the diamond doesn’t stick up far above the ring itself?) This is a good setting for medical professionals who have to constantly wear rubber gloves.
A traditional prong setting: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/solitaire-ring.html
These stick up farther and actually allow more light to travel through the ring, so your diamond will react more and look more “sparkly”.
With either setting, the more prongs you have to hold the diamond, the better. It makes it sturdier and less likely to loose that precious stone. (I have a six-prong traditional solitaire for my engagement ring and the diamonds for the wedding ring are held in by six prongs as well.)

QUESTION:
engagement ring question?
Hello there. So when my fiance and I started talking about an engagement he wanted me to be very involved in finding my perfect ring. For a very long time I have loved halo settings, but sadly after we could not be approved for credit our budgegt became very limited. Just this christmas we were extremely lucky to find an absolutely gorgeous ring that was more than affordable and it is now proudly on my finger
It is a cathedral setting with a .40 round brilliant center stone and 7 round diamonds on each side. Not a halo ring, but absolutely stunning all the same. Just recently my fiance and I were at the shane company looking at wedding bands and to my suprise I found out that you can purchase halo crowns to customize your own ring!
After seeing how shocked I was, my fiance asked me if I would like this as a valentines gift. I immediately said yes, but I really want a good idea of how it will look since my diamond is smaller. Could you please post pictures of perhaps your own rings or rings you’ve seen that have smaller center stones with halo crowns? Thanks much

QUESTION:
Any married women ever wanted a new wedding band?
I know, it seems selfish and like I do not appreciate what I have, but honestly that is totally not the case. Being a stay at home mom I try to wear my rings as much as possible but they get grimy from all the cleaning and get gunk under the diamond settings and stuff. I told my husband I would like just a plain wedding band for wear around the house and dirty work, do you think this is dumb? Have any of you done the same thing? Is this selfish or in your opinion do you think I am trying to take care of what I have?Thank you for your input, it is greatly appreciated!
-
ANSWER:
There’s nothing wrong with that.
I wanted a new wedding ring cause my husband couldn’t afford a really nice one when we got married. So now that we can I asked him to buy me something better. I’ll still wear the old one as well but on my other hand.

QUESTION:
Accidentally found out about my engagement ring months ago, he still hasnt asked me!?
I signed into email on my boyfriend of 4 year’s computer. It automatically sent me into his email account because he has it customized to his settings. I saw the following email subjects sent from his mom in the inbox: “The ring- Sam put it in the safety deposit box at the bank”; “The ring- you need to sign the ring insurance forms today!”I was a GOOD GIRL and I didnt open the emails- I just closed out the account. I was sooo excited. I was getting really restless…. Of all my friends, I am almost the last single girl left. We’re both college grads and we have good jobs, so although things arent perfect financially, we are very blessed because things could be much, much worse. I began flipping through my old stacks of Martha Stewart Weddings with mom…..
Well, that has now become 3 months ago that I found the secret e-mails. I spoke to a close friend of his who I can trust and I told him about the emails. He told me he truthfully hadnt heard anything about him buying a ring.
Im going nuts… We have no special occasions coming up. He knows I want a warm weather wedding with a reasonable amount of time to plan it and just enjoy being engaged(10-12 month engagement). But at this rate, it doesnt look like thats going to happen this year. Ive been so good, but Im afraid Im going to have too many cocktails one night and bust out, “When are you going to ask me already?!”
-
ANSWER:
Let it go…It is going to drive you nuts, or you are going to slip up and say something and possibly ruin your special moment. I would no doubt assume he has a ring and assume it is meant for you. My question was popped before I was expecting it. I thought perhaps our Oct anniversary, Christmas, Valentines day? But nope…he asked in August before I thought it would happen. He probably has something special planned. Just be patient…it will come. Don’t sneak and read the emails, don’t ask, just let it be…it will be a special moment for both of you and the more you worry or press or pry, the less special it will be!!!

QUESTION:
Should I get these rings?
I have found some beautiful wedding rings. My fiance wants to replace my engagement ring because he knows that I really wanted a blue sapphire. I don’t care about or want diamonds at all. I found this beautiful band and then a matching ring that could go with it but they are sterling silver and the ring portion has a CZ on it but has sapphires. They are made from Tacori so im not worried about the quality too much I trust that brand. I was thinking of having the rings coated in white gold, rhodium or even platinum since the rings are so cheap. They are like 75 dollars for the set. It isn’t about the money I just love the design work and the settings. Check them out and tell me what you think. Are they worth it?http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Watches/Tacori-IV-Sterling-Silver-Cubic-Zirconia-Engraved-Vine-Stackable-Ring/4808837/product.html?rcmndsrc=2

ANSWER:
Too many people worry about size, clarity, color, blah, blah, blah. The important part is if he twists off a pop cap, and places it on your finger, and you fall in love with it…then keep it. The choice is yours. Don’t let others dictate what you should and shouldn’t wear.

QUESTION:
How many formal place settings do we really need?
Literally everything me and my fiance own is from either a thrift store, flea market or pawn shop. We don’t need a bunch of material crap to be happy, and we put money into our savings account like crazy. We do tend to host a lot of small dinners (like 4 or 5 people), and we’ve really been wanting a nice set of stemware and flatware for a long time. We’ve requested no gifts for our wedding (we really don’t want a bunch of stuff we already have like pans and towels), so we think now would be a good time to buy these items, so we can remember them as something special as our wedding “gift” to ourselves. We’re planning on spending about 00. For that, we can get a service for 12 flatware set and a 16 piece stemware set (8 wineglasses, and 8 iced beverage glasses), or a service for 8 flatware set, the 16 pieces of stemware and 8 awesome turkey napkin rings. The only reason the napkin rings even caught our eye is because we both find Thanksgiving as our favorite holiday, and we can really picture these on our table for every future Thanksgiving in the years to come. I can seriously never ever imagine hosting 12 people at a formal sit down dinner, but the saleslady insists the extra 4 place settings are the better way to go and we’ll regret it if we don’t get them. We kind of feel like we’d regret it more not getting those napkin rings. We have never spent so much on frivolous things like this, and we really want to make the right choice in getting the items we will use and enjoy most. More than anything though, we ant to get something we can always remember as having as newlyweds, and something we can pass down to our future children. Does anyone have any suggestions on which way to go? I know it’s “traditional” to have a service for 12, but do you actually ever use all 12 place settings at once? Or if you were in our situation, would you get the napkin rings that really grabbed your attention and get a more reasonable number of place setting you can actually imagine using? And we’re looking at Reed and Barton, which is an extremely nice brand. The number of glasses isn’t really negotiable to us, as we frequently have 10+ people over for drinks, but not for sit down dinners. And don’t worry, we are by no means draining our savings or spending more than we can afford on this purchase, we simply picked an amount that seems reasonable to us for our first important houseware purchase together
-
ANSWER:
I personally was never able to buy special dinnerware. I hope you love what you picked out. I will probably inherit my Mother-in-Law’s Desert Rose pattern, which I really don’t care for. My two sisters-in-law both have two or three sets of 12 each that they have purchased or inherited. If you are choosing a classic pattern for all these things, and are buying at a large, nation-wide chain (like Macy’s) then I’d go for the 8-piece settings and get the napkin rings. Now, you can “register” just like a newly married couple for the rest of your items, and include things like the large serving platter, and other special service pieces. It will be there in the future if you want to continue buying one piece at a time until you’ve got all twelve settings. Face it, as your family grows, the number of people at your table will, too. And there’s always that nice couple across the street to invite.
You could also mention to people who ask that you are registered at Macy’s for gifts.

Last night i kept waking up due to a bad dream, this is not the 1st, 2nd or 3rd.. it’s like the 6th or 7th dream i have had. I’m getting married in just over 3 months and my dreams all have the same things happening in them, just all in different settings. I am always on my way to get married.. to my finace (so thats good). I am ALWAYS running late, my hair is never done,i don’t have a veil, we don’t have rings- except my engagement ring.. this is in EVERY dream that i have- atleast that i remember. Ladt night things were coming together a little better than normal, like someone found me a veil -huge and ugly, and my fiance had a fake ring in his car, and this time our cake was no where to be found, and i straightened my hair. It’s freaking me out. I don’t really worry about much.. But for some reason i can’t sleep at night and when i do i wake up with these aweful dreams.does anyone know a way to cure this.. any ideas on being able to sleep better- no warm milk and no sleeping pills.
i guess it’s normal.. i try not to think about the wedding before bed. But i feel like i can’t fall asleep so i start thinking about stuff.. sometimes i think about happy things, but sometimes i think about sad things, or things going wrong..and then i just can’t sleep. last night i stayed awake for 2 1/2 hours.. and as soon as i let my self relax i fell asleep, so i know i can control it.. but something has to help. i make lists of what i have to do the next day so i dont stay up thinking about it. it sucks.. thankfully my kids sleep till 9:30-10

Professional Photographers… Canon Users? HELP!
?
Hi! I am fairly new to the photography world. I worked with my professional mother in law for quite awhile and FELL IN LOVE with photography. However, that was about a year and a half ago. I was hoping some pros out there (particularly canon users!) could help me out a bit? I want to know things like…. What kind of equipment list should I build up? Right now, I have a Canon 50D with the (horrible) kit lens- a tamron 28-80mm, and I just got a canon 50mm f1.8. I want a macro lens because I want to get into weddings and I know I need a macro lens to get shots such as the wedding rings, but I dont know which one. I dont want outrageously expensive because I simply can’t afford it! I also am doing portraiture, so any lens suggestions on that would be welcomed, too. Also, I was hoping someone could help me brush up on my settings. I know the ISO, f-stop, and aperture, but which is which? I can adjust my settings to where I get the correct lighting, however I have totally forgotten which does which. Like, which setting will increase and decrease image noise? Things like that! Any advice on someone starting their own business is welcomed… Thanks in advance!
Warboom- The package I got came with a hot shoe flash, but it is a VERYYY basic one. The only thing it says on it is Zeikos and it is pretty small. I want the Canon 580 EX II.-
ANSWER:
You have the basic equipment you need for a wedding shoot; the 50D was my favourite wedding camera, and it is still my backup. I was quite content to let auto ISO carry it to 1600ISO and had no problems with noise (check out my work and see if you can fault the quality). That means that expensive lenses with large apertures, while nice to have, are not as important as they once were.Macro is NOT necessary for the rings and other details. I very occasionally use a 90mm f/2.8, but you are not looking for 1:1 enlargement, and your 15 Megapixel image will crop easily if you need it to. I find much more value in a long lens. The typical wedding lens is a 70-200mm, but I like the 18-270mm with my 10-24mm another favourite. All of these are Tamron lenses, and while I have L-class Canon glass (17-55mm f/4, 50mm f/1.4) they stay in the bag most of the day.
My advice would be to set aside trying to manage settings you are so unsure of for the time being, Your 50D will manage exposure settings very well without too much oversight from you. Set u=it to Program Mode (P) and master two controls at first: Program Shift and Exposure Compensation.
Both of these can be used with your eye to the viewfinder. If the camera sets a speed that is too fast/slow, or an aperture that is too wide/narrow. just a roll of the wheel near the shutter button will adjust (shift) the program to a faster/slower wider/narrower setting without changing the exposure.
If the image is too dark or too light, exposure compensation will fix it: roll the large wheel with your thumb to add (lighten) or subtract (darken) stops.
It won’t take long before you know how to judge the number of stops you need..
Program Shift is a one-off setting: the camera goes back to its own setting for the next shot; Compensation remains set until you change it.
I love your enthusiasm, but I would never trust you with a wedding at this stage of your development: a wedding is a once only event; if you get a portrait shoot wrong, you can redo it. Get a wedding day wrong and you can ruin the whole event for everyone. That is not fair. Contact a working pro, organize to go on a shoot or three with them, and LEARN you craft thoroughly before you put someone else’s special day at risk.

QUESTION:
Father/husband problem, it’s been going on for at least four months now..?
Okay, well.. My dad is pretty much a sexaholic, it truly seems like.. It started when I realized he wasn’t wearing his wedding band or ring anymore, who knows if he still has it. Next, I found out that the laptop he bought for taking on vacations and stuff is entirely filled with porn when I opened firefox there was several tabs/favorites/settings for his porn. When discovering all of this, I wanted to be sure there was no saved passwords because I figured it would be bad if I found some.. I found bout six or seven and one of them was for a live video feed and he made a profile impersonating me.. With everything about me and such.. Later that same month, I found him constantly switching out hard drives on the downstairs computer.. Turns out.. He has a 500 gb hard drive that’s hooked up to the computer though a seperate drive (he’s used about 135 or so gb on it). The next instance is that he constantly texts and he would NEVER text until he got his own “personal” phone so he can text.. I’m really disappointed in this.. Something needs to be done quickly because it’s breaking my family apart with his texting and porn addiction because he’s always watching porn.. Gets up at 2 am when he leaves for work at 6:15 to watch porn, comes home about 5:25ish and is on the computer till 6:30 for dinner and gets up after he finishes eating after inhaliating his food so what can he do? Go back on the freaking computer.. My mom obviously doesn’t really notice it but it’s starting to get way too far.. I’m pretty sure he’s talking to like 16-24 year old girls as me or something.. I desperately need your help!God Bless!

QUESTION:
I’m clueless about rings.?
First off, let me just say that I’m not the kind of girl that’s been dreaming about her wedding day since she was five. I never thought I’d get married, so naturally I never took much stock in becoming more knowledgeable about rings.But….
I got engaged on Christmas Eve, and was presented with a beautiful princess solitaire diamond ring.
The other day, my sister asked me if the ring was in it’s setting, or if it was just in the band that it came with and I’m picking a setting later.
Can someone decode this for me? Is it customary to sell engagement rings in generic band settings and then you go get one that “suits you” later? Am I to do that?
The diamond is beautiful, and the band is very plain white gold with no intricacies. It is not wide.
I don’t know if engagement rings are given with temporary bands and then you go pick one, or if this is the band I am to have on it forever.
I am embarrassed to ask people these questions….so….
To the internet!

QUESTION:
Would this be a dumb idea? Or do you think it would hold special meaning and be a nice sentiment….?
My daughter is walking me down the isle in our upcoming wedding. I’m trying to find something different to give her as a gift besides the traditional “locket”, “jewelry box”, or “engraved frames”. We want something that will pull in the symbolism of us becoming a family. She’ll also be 13 by the wedding, so it can’t be anything juvenile like a teddy bear or doll.
We’ve been shopping for our wedding bands, & are still undecided on a set since we are not really big into jewelry.BUT, we’ve seen some really pretty 3-pc sets that we both really liked the bands. However “we” don’t need the engagement ring.
FYI-The sets I’m talking about have the REALLY SMALL engagement rings, w/diamond CHIPS set in illusion settings–NOTHING fancy! LOL
IF we were to purchase one of these sets, what do you think about giving her the “engagement” ring as our gift?
We thought w/it matching & actually being PART of OUR set, it would have the symbolism we wanted for her gift.
What do you think?-
ANSWER:
i have a friend who did something to what you are talking about. the groom was not the child’s birth father. he said he was marrying into their family and he bought the child a ring as well. we all thought it was a very sweet gesture. (the kids real dad is a dead beat so we were all for this lovely gesture).

QUESTION:
Changing a diamond setting?
I had a few diamonds from my mother’s previous wedding bands and I was wondering whether or not I should change their settings and whom I should go to.I was thinking of going to a place like Kay Jeweler’s to pick out a setting for my mother’s ring she had when she was married to my father. The setting on it is a little high and when my father got it for her, it was all he could afford and combined with the wedding band, looks cheap and it doesn’t match.
Also, my mother was married to my previous step-father and that ring was absolutely ugly. It pretty much looked like a gold band with three diamonds sticking up and looked bent near the settings, like they didn’t know how to do it right. I need to get it looked at because they may not even be real. However, if they are, I would love to combine them into one ring or some kind of jewelry.I do feel bad that I want to change the setting on my mom’s first ring (it also doesn’t fit), especially since my dad got it for her. Maybe I could always get another setting that looks exactly like it and wear in on my other ring finger.
I really want to use the diamonds for something else, but I really don’t want to compromise my mother’s ring from my dad. I could always ask her what she thinks.
I already have my own engagement ring and wedding band, so I don’t need to use the diamonds for that.
The ring that my previous step-dad gave my mom is hideous and definitely needs to be taken apart. My mom also said herself that she hated that thing!
Most of you who have posted haven’t even taken into account that my mother had TWO previous marriages, so that means TWO rings. I think I am going to preserve my mother’s ring (maybe get a similar setting) from my father and re-set my mother’s ring from my ex-step-father.
By the way, they were both given to me. My mother gave me her wedding ring to my step-dad and my father gave me the wedding ring she had when she was married to him…so they’re mine by right.-
ANSWER:
It looks like you’re starting to work the issue out on your own!
I suggest going to different jewelers to get their opinions. If you have a Day’s Jewelers in your area, I highly recommend them–they are fantastic! If you don’t want the diamonds in a ring, you could always have them made into a pendant!
Good luck!!

QUESTION:
How much does diamond clarity matter when buying a tennis bracelet?
I’ve been looking at diamond tennis bracelets as a wedding gift for my wife to be, and there seems to be quite a difference in price from a VS clarity to SI clarity. I do understand what these classifications are, but when comparing bracelets, for he same money I can get a “SI -I1″ 2.35 CTW bracelet for the same price as a “VS1-2″ 1 CTW. bracelet…In looking at both, I can’t tell much of a difference between the 2 clarity’s as the diamonds are small and set in white gold “box” settings…
I bought a higher clarity (VS2) solitaire polar bear diamond for the engagement ring that I felt was money well spent, but I can’t see the value in spending the extra scratch (or going smaller) in a bracelet…
Any feedback?

ANSWER:
Hi,
I would feel exactly the same. In a ring, especially when it’s a bigger stone, you notice the clarity (or lack of) quite a bit. In the much smaller diamonds of a tennis bracelet, it’s so much less noticeable. Si to I would be a great choice for a diamond bracelet. A lot of the cheaper bracelet have stones in the I1 to I2 range and cloudy so it pays to check them out thoroughly.Cheers
