Wedding Signs

Weddings are a great time for exchanging gifts, to show your appreciation for the many people who have helped make the D-day even more special. If you have been looking for a great gift idea to wow your fun-loving groomsmen, you can get them personalized pub signs. From football, soccer, and baseball to poker, you can get pub signs available for most of the popular sports. Each sign can be engraved with a personal message to make it your unique memento for your groomsmen.

English pub signs and Irish beer signs are a fun and frothy way of saying Thank You to your groomsmen for being there to support you. You can also find tavern signs that remind you of old-fashioned taverns by the roadside. If you are wondering what would be a good cost-effective gift for a large group of groomsmen, getting gifts in bulk would be a good idea. For a dash of fun, you can think of buying pub signs for all the groomsmen. When you buy wholesale pub signs, a store might give you special discounts for bulk buys. So not only do you buy something your groomsmen are sure to love, you also end up making some savings.

When it comes to your best man, you obviously want something intimate and personal, something he will cherish in the years to come. If you know his favorite sport, perhaps a traditional sport fishing sign or a coffee pub with a special personalized message engraved on it would be a good idea. If car racing or bikes take his fancy you can also gift him a traditional motor bike sign or a traditional sports car pub sign. You can also find a wide array of gifts on the theme of golf, such as representations of traditional golf academies.

Many online services these days make it convenient to choose wedding gifts. Instead of running around looking for the perfect gift, you can find a wide range of gifts displayed on the website. Whether it is pub signs or tavern signs you want, you can make your selection from the wide variety available and get them personalized. There are many online payment options which take the pain out of buying gifts.

    • ANSWER:
If you find a book with black pages at a Stationery or Crafts store (Michaels?), or even just black cardstock or paper, you could make one. This could be a really cool, fun project for you and your mom to do together, if you like. You could collage a cover out of favourite photographs (black and white pictures?) or, use a silver and black printed fabric to cover the front.

Maybe if you even used an old binder and filled it with black pages, you could decorate the cover of that for a really custom but easy project.

    • ANSWER:
Definately sign the card. It shows a personal touch. Maybe even right a little extra like “We are so happy you shared in our day” and sign it Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jones or Thank you, Bob and Brenda Jones. If they are close to you you can put in Love instead of Thank you.

  17. QUESTION:
How do I word wedding invitations for a belated ceremony?
My fiance and I would like to go ahead and have our wedding lisence signed by our pastor but have an actual ceremony a few months later. I’d like to have both a ceremony and reception but how do I word the inviations if we’re atually already married?

    • ANSWER:
My S.I.L wanted to get married in a specific church but as both of them are divorced the church wouldn’t allow it so they got married in the Registry Office and then got the marriage “blessed” in church, however, the “blessing” actually took the course of a marriage, “do you Rachel take Paul” etc and when the vicar announced, “I now pronounce you man and wife” they kissed and we applauded.

It wasn’t general knowledge that they got married in the registry office and they wanted it kept like this so, apart from the lucky few, all people think that 7 September Rachel and Paul got married, not 5 August.

Ever heard of the saying “what people don’t know won’t hurt them” – works here.

Go ahead and have your wedding and then invite people to “your wedding” when you are ready.

      Good luck.

  20. QUESTION:
Is it possible to be legally married without anyone finding out before the wedding?
There are a lot of complex things that are involved here, but basically is it possible to be legally married first and then have a wedding without anyone knowing about the legal part of it?
Is it possible to file for two marriage licenses or make a copy of the original for the officiator at the wedding to sign?
Are courthouse weddings publicized in the paper or online?

    • ANSWER:
My sister and her husband were actually “married” a month before their wedding. They were moving away for school and needed to be able to fill out the forms by the deadline as a married couple instead of it still showing his as single for the following year (something about the loans… I didn’t really follow). Anyways, they had the pastor sign the marriage license and no one had any idea at the actual ceremony.

I think it is something that you need to talk to the person who will be actually officiating your wedding about, because otherwise 2 licenses will end up being filed which will cause a big mess. Either have him/her sign it in advance, or tell them the plan and you just won’t have to sign another one at the actual ceremony.

  21. QUESTION:
Are wedding rings a universal sign of marriage or are there cultures that will not recognize it?
My future wife and I will spend most of our lives traveling through many different countries and cultures on humanitarian work. We would like to each tattoo our bands; however, we are afraid that not every culture will recognize that, or even wedding bands as a sign of marriage.

    • ANSWER:
Not every culture will recognize a tattoo on your finger as a sign of marriage. To be honest, I’m not even sure that *I* would recongize that as a sign of marriage — I usually think of rings as a sign of marriage and tattoos as a sign of…..of well, being a little bit of a hipster-renegade. (Not in a bad way….I just wouldn’t necessarily think of a tattoo around a person’s finger as being the same thing as a wedding ring.)

In addition, not every culture uses wedding bands or would immediately recognize a wedding band a sign of marriage — some people would probably be aware of the custom from TV and whatnot, but might not be used to immediately making the connection the way that most Americans and other westerners are.

Also, even in some countries that wear wedding rings, not every country has the same custom about which finger the ring is worn on. So your tattoo might not hold the same meaning for that reason as well.

I wouldn’t worry about any of this, though. Even in countries where it is the norm, there are ALWAYS exceptions. My dad doesn’t wear a wedding ring and he never has! When he’s talking to people he doesn’t know (particularly women who might get the wrong impression) he always just makes a point of mentioning his wife and then they know. It’s not a big deal. If you want to tattoo the rings, go for it. Probably some people will know what it means and the rest won’t and you’ll just have to tell people that you’re married if they start flirting with you.

Wedding rings are only as important as YOU make them. They are a symbol for the two of YOU. And if you both want tattoo’d rings, then it sounds like that’s a romantic and practical solution for you both.

      Good luck and congratulations!

  22. QUESTION:
Would like some sayings to place on signs going to and from wedding, ex: Fairy Tales do come true.?
Son getting married, wedding on farm, one lane road leading to and from, would like sign sayings for entertainment

    • ANSWER:
      Maybe…

      For Ceremony:
      “The Two Become One”
      “Act I”
      “Gettin’ Hitched”
      “Dreams Do Come True”
“This Way to (Bride’s Name & Groom’s Name) Love Story”
      “Tying the Knot”

      For Reception:
      “This Way to the Party”
      “Act II”
      “Happily Ever After”
“Flying Bouquet and Garter This Way”
      “Mr. & Mrs.”
      “Let the Fun Begin!”

You could also mark how far (in each direction) until they reach the appointed place for both ceremony and reception by putting facts about the bride and the groom on signs along the way.
      Examples:
“30 yards to go! The #30 was (Groom’s Name) football number in High School/College.”
“Just 10 feet left! (Bride’s Name) started ballet dancing when she was 10 years old.”
      Or something to that effect.
Just be sure to run it by the bride and groom first to be sure they approve! And DON’T put anything they might find embarrassing!!!

      Good Luck!

  23. QUESTION:
Where can I get a large picture frame that people could sign at a wedding?
My fiance and I are getting married soon. Instead of a guestbook we’d like to get a big picture frame and have people sign that so we can put it up in the house. There’s probably going to be around 100 people at the wedding. Any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Do you mean the mat for it? Most people sign the mat that surrounds the photo of the 2 of you and then later you get it framed. You can always get a custom mat at Joann Fabrics or Michael’s. Or any local frame shop.
It depends on how big you want it!

When the bride signs register at wedding, does she use her new surname or not!?
When you sign the register do you sign as your new married name, or as your maiden name?!

    Thanks!
In the UK (don’t know if it differs elsewhere)

    • ANSWER:
You sign with your maiden name because you aren’t legally Mrs. so and so until you change your name through the ss office and DMV. Since you are signing a contract, you must use your legal name, which at that point would be your maiden name.

      I know, I was disappointed too ;)

  28. QUESTION:
Can we still have our wedding ceremony in three weeks?
My fiance and I have been planning our weeding for over a year. He was married before and is divorced, well so he thought. He requested a certificate of divorce so we can have it when we applied for the marriage license. He was informed that there is no record. So for the last two years he’s been still married. She never filed the paperwork and gave him false paperwork to sign. Our wedding is three weeks away what should I do?

    • ANSWER:
I think jay’s answer is a good idea. You don’t want his (soon to be) ex wife having control over when you having your wedding. Just talk to your officiant about the situation and let him know that (if this is what you decide) you’d still like to have the ceremony as planned, however, you will have to make it legal at a later date because of these unforeseen circumstances. You can still celebrate your wedding day as your anniversary because for all intents and purposes, it will still be your wedding day.

I am so sorry you have to go through this– I am engaged too and I know what a special time it is for you and your future husband.

  29. QUESTION:
My fiancee doesn’t want to sign a pre-nup should I call off the wedding?

Wedding will have to be called of if she doesn’t bend!. I will not get married to lose everything I have worked hard for after a divorce…

    • ANSWER:
it may not be a pre nup problem. sounds like the terms are the problem.
your prenup is all one way.

Gemini: female is gossiping about the bride and what she read in OK! magazine yesterday about some celebrity, she is wondering why the bride didn’t choose her to be a bridesmaid. Gemini male is the best man, and is telling the groom to relax, and is boasting about the woman he slept with last night, saying something along the lines of: “i hope i’m never in your situation mate….marriage is far too boring for me….but good luck to you anyway….” :-)

Cancer: Cancer female is a bridesmaid, and is upstairs with the Libra bride and Taurus bridesmiad, Cancer finishing the bride’s hair and telling her how gorgeous she looks, then turns to Taurus and says “do you think Scorpio will find me attractive in this? does my bum look big?!”. Cancer male is with the other guests. both Pisces male and Cancer male have extreme hangovers, and are complaining like crazy. Virgo male is also an usher, and is dusting down his suit, looking all pleased with himself, and nagging Leo to stop talking to Aries.

Libra: Libra female is the bride, she is upstairs and is shaking with nerves, paranoid about the drunken affair she had last night with Pisces male, she is talking to Taurus female about being nervous, and has one last look in the mirror at herself, and says “i can’t believe this is happening to ME, i can’t wait to be married…”. Libra male is with the guests, and is flirting with Sagittarius female for a bet that Leo male made.

Pisces female is a bridesmaid, she is upstairs in the toilets checking her make-up whilst talking to Cancer female and Taurus female.

      i’m a Cancer :-)

  31. QUESTION:
Who Signs Bridal Shower Thank You Notes?
If only the bride-to-be is present at the wedding shower, who should sign the wedding shower thank you notes for the gifts — only the bride, or both of the to-be-weds?

    • ANSWER:
No matter who attends the shower and receives the gifts, all of the wedding gifts are really for both the bride and the groom-to-be regardless of when they’re received — hence, even if the bride herself is the only soon-to-wed attendee, the thank-yous should come from both her and her fiance. The concept of the wedding shower used to be that the gifts were to help the bride-to-be set up her new home — but come on. It’s the new millennium, and the secret is out: metrosexual or not, men can also cook and clean, and they’re going to find all this stuff useful and even enjoyable too. As a matter of fact, co-ed, or ack and Jill?showers, are becoming more and more popular, so expect to start seeing more grooms-to-be tearing into those gifts, leaving no question as to who should be giving the thanks.

  32. QUESTION:
When did the “white wedding dress” sign of purity start and how did it originate?
Not the wedding dress itself, but the symbol of “purity” or “virginity”

    • ANSWER:
White has been symbolic for a variety of things for 5,000 years. In ancient times, white was often a sign of wealth. The supposed virgin priestesses of various cults wore white only for ceremony – and this only because white represented wealth, not virginity. A wealthy cult brought in more $$ than a poorer one. It was not coincidence that the wealthy upper class Romans wore white garments.

Honestly, I think white associated with the purity and virginity thing is of very recently origin (last 100 to 200 years). Girls would get their first communion all dressed in white – for ceremony – in the 1800s and perhaps that is where it started. I’m not sure if Queen Victorias dress had anything to do with it, but as you know, that started the white wedding dress popularity.

  33. QUESTION:
Why is it necessary for an “official” of any kind to conduct the wedding?
There is no training necessary for someone to read the wedding script and sign on the dotted line that he or she conducted.

Why shouldn’t my neighbor, or any other adult be able to do the same thing?

    • ANSWER:
Interesting point – they can, at least in most states in the US. It takes about five minutes to request ordination online (you can get approved in a day or two), and then register yourself with the state or county where you intend to perform weddings in order for it to be “official”.

The law (here, I happen to live in Michigan) only says that you have to be a minister or a judge to perform weddings. And because we have “freedom of religion” – anyone can become a minister of whatever faith they follow and legally perform weddings as long as a church will ordain them. Universal Life Church seems to ordain anyone who is interested, no matter what faith they follow.

  34. QUESTION:
When animals micro-evolve opposable thumbs, and can sign wedding contracts, will people be asle to marry pets?
This whole homosexual thing is an abomination.

Soon, people are going to want to be marrying their pets, or their sofas.

This is just setting up a bad precident. Once dogs and cats microevolve opposable thumbs, and are abole to sign wedding contracts, human-animal marriage will be commonplace, even “accepted”!

This is obviously a problem. Homosexual marriage is against God’s will, and needs to be illegal in a Christian nation such as America, just like premarital sex is.

    • ANSWER:

Me and my fiance have a complicated situation. We want to get married but because of some circumstances we cant sign the papers. I was wondering if we could do the ceremony and act like were getting married, then sign the papers later. Would a minister do this for us and sign the papers later?

  36. QUESTION:
My fiance wants to adopt my daughter at the wedding?
We have set a wedding date for July 29, 2011. We would like for the family to have the same last names. Can this be done at the wedding. Can we sign the papers and announce it to the guests at the wedding. She knows he’s not her biological father, but she wants her last name to still match mine. We talked to her about the adoption and she’s in agreeance. What steps must we take to make this happen? Calling the courthouse or a lawyer is not a good answer, because here in Louisiana they have no clue.

    • ANSWER:
You must have a hearing in front of a family court judge who makes the determination whether the adoption may take place or not…

..and Honey, a lawyer not know about adoption-are you joking???? ANY lawyer who practices family law DOES and to imply that folks in Louisianna, even the those in professions are clueless, is very ignorant of you….

Sounds like you want to do it on the cheap….you can’t. You MUST go thru family court so either look up family law and get the name of an attorney, or call the courthouse to find out what papers need to be filed and with who…..

..but while you may announce the impending adoption or the recent adoption, it can NOT be done as part of the wedding ceremony….

  38. QUESTION:
Can i legally fire my wedding consultant if I’ve signed a contract and paid half of her 00 fee?
I’m getting married in Miami Florida next year. In March we decided to hire a wedding planner in Florda to help us. We took a trip to florida to meet her and look at wedding venues. We were very impressed and decided to hire her. We signed a contract and paid half of her 00 fee.
However, when we came back home, it suddenly became very difficult to contact her. Her phone would either ring of the hook, go straight to her voicemail or her mail box would be full. Even my fiance, who lives in america couldn’t reach her. Eventually we are usually able to reach her, but only after endless phone calls or when i send emails.
5 months on, she still hasn’t found us a suitable wedding venue. She promised to send us a package with all her reasearch into suitable venues by July, which we still haven’t received.
I want to get rid of her as she’s creating more problems than she solving but i’m afraid of the legal implications. I don’t even mind if we lose the 00 we’ve paid.

    • ANSWER:
      Depends what your contract says.

What are the papers that are signed during the wedding ceremony?
I am not from Canada but have heard about the couple signing papers during the ceremony…..what all do these papers consist of… what do they say?

    • ANSWER:
Marriage license…that’s the offical document that goes to the courts that actually makes you married.

In reality the ceremony is just for show. You could do it in your dining room and just sign the papers without any vows as long as you had the officant to put his signature and the two witnesses.

  42. QUESTION:
How do you address/sign a wedding card?
I bought a gift from an online registry, for a soon-to-be-married couple that I don’t know very well. The website attaches a small card. What do I write and how do I sign it? I don’t want to just put my first name in case they think its from someone else, but I my first and last name seems too formal. What is the etiquette for this?

    • ANSWER:
You can use your first and last name just in case they have someone else named Jennifer/Mary/Sarah etc on their list. I know it seems odd but it will help them out a lot! I always sign my name and my last name on those types of things, just in case there is someone else. If you have a fun name like “Shaquanda” and you know you’re the ONLY one, then feel free to leave off the last name. But it is certainly okay to include it ( =

  43. QUESTION:
Can wearing a wedding ring on the right hand be a sign that she wants out?
My girl friend just put a wedding ring on her right hand. She told me that she told others that we were married. We’ve been going out for two years. It is a joke and she is just teasing. Nonetheless, I have heard that this can also be taken as a sign of non committal. Regardless of the European aspect, is this American taboo? Any subconscious or passive aggressive significance?

    • ANSWER:
Wait, so you haven’t proposed but she’s wearing a wedding ring but on the wrong finger?

In America, after you’ve been married a while, some women move their engagement ring to the right hand and keep the band on the left. Its all up to the woman and her style. But before getting married, it has to be on the left hand for it to signify engagement.

If she is wearing it on the right and telling folks you are married, then be quick to check out the laws of the state you live in!! In many states, you can declare yourselves married and the courts will recognize that declaration. I’m totally not kidding! If you live in one of these U.S. states, be careful with playing around with these words because they can become very serious.

If you love her and want to stay with her/marry her, then continue on as you are. My gut says it is strange to start wearing an engagement ring your guy didn’t give you on bended knee and telling people you are married! But she may be passive-agressively telling you she wants to get married as soon as possible, and is using this as a suggestion to you!

  44. QUESTION:
Send thank you cards before the wedding?
I am getting married in about 3 weeks. A few people who are unable to attend the wedding have already sent gifts. For thank you cards my fiance and I are going to have a picture taken at the wedding with a sign that says thank you, then we’ll have that picture printed on the thank you cards. Is it ok to wait until after the wedding to thank the people who already sent us gifts, so I can send them that card? Or is that too long of a wait – should I just buy regular thank you cards for those people and send them now?

    • ANSWER:
You haven’t “officially” gotten married yet which means you “officially” haven’t opened the presents. I would wait and mail all thank you cards after the wedding, when everything is official. Technically, you have three to six months after the wedding to send your thanks for gifts. congrats! *k*
