Wedding Speeches Groom

This is the most important day of your life. A day that will change that will change the course and purpose of your existence. Nervous excitement has become a permanent fixture in your being. On top of all this you have to write a wedding speeches groom? Sounds intimidating for any groom. Here are some tips to help make wedding speeches grooms can master easily.

The wedding speeches for the groom are quite import 00004000 ant. This is the only time that eyes are focused on you. The rest of the time the attention will be on your bride (rightfully so). So you have to deliver not only for everyone present but for yourself as well. Deliver a beautiful speech and you will become a legend whose praises will forever be sung by all the women present at the reception. So here goes.

First and foremost coordinate with your better half about the speeches. Decide on whether both of you will be giving speeches or if it’s just you. If both of you are doing so then make sure the content is different. You don’t want to bore everyone present do you? Cover different topics or tell stories from different points of view so that it will be interesting. Once that is decided move on to the task of actually writing your speech.

Start off by talking about your relationship. How and where did you meet? What were your first impressions of each other? Adding a bit of humor will balance out the mushy stuff. Words about how your life has changed and been enhanced is always a safe option. Expressing your true emotions from the heart will definitely be appreciated.

Next move on to how you proposed and the feelings involved in this occasion. Expressing your happiness and gratitude to your bride for accepting to be your life partner is perfect. Talk about her personality and how it made you fall in love with her every day. Do NOT talk about past relationships or engage in any kind of comparisons. Bad idea. Focus only on your bride. She is now the center of your world. Keep it that way to ensure smooth sailing in the days to come.

Thank everyone that is present. You’ll score points by individually thanking the people who have played a significant part in your lives and the wedding. Your best man, maid of honor, your parents and in-laws and anyone else who was really helpful can be mentioned. You can’t mention everyone but a few important names should be enough. Anecdotes about your own family which leads to praise is always well received. This might be your day with your bride but thanking the other special people in your life will mean a lot to everyone.

Practice your speech before hand. The more you practice the more confident you will be. Imagine yourself at your wedding in front of all the guests. Then practice giving the speech in front of the mirror. This will be a great help. On the actual day you will be suave and natural thus winning over the hearts of everyone present. AVOID alcohol at least until you have given your speech. Try to get your audience involved in your speech. This is not a lecture but a toast. Always make eye contact to retain attention. End your speech by telling your bride how much you love her and a toast to your family and in laws.

3 mins tops. not even 5 mins. you and the bride will write thank you’s after the wedding, so you can thank your parents and guests then. in fact there’s no reason for the bride or groom to do a speech at all at the wedding since you’ll be greeting each guest individually either during the receiving line after the ceremony, or at each table before or after dinner at the reception.

  11. QUESTION:
Wedding speeches – father of the groom?
Does the father of the groom usually make a speech and is it acceptable if he wants to?

    • ANSWER:
traditionally its father of the bride, then groom, then best man but as with everything at youe own wedding – do whatever you like!!!! if he wants to do one then go for it – but be warned speeches that are too long or too many may start to bore you and your guests. i think 3 is ample so if the father of the groom wants to do one you might have to axe someone elses or at least keep them a bit briefer!!!!

  12. QUESTION:
    wedding speeches?
Hi, can anyone tell me the correct order for speeches? The 3 people giving a speech are best man, groom and my brother (acting as father of the bride)

    thanks

    • ANSWER:
Yes, your brother should be first, and end his speech by proposing the health of the bride and groom. Groom replies, and proposes health of bridesmaids and any other attendants, best man replies to that toast on their behalf. So you can see, there’s a logic to it.

Respect My Opinion- I was asking about tradition…I dont want the speeches to be long. I think you should ask questions before you judge me on my question.

    • ANSWER:
i think its really up to you.. at the reception the best man and maid of honor speak most of the time the brides father speak on behalf of him and the mother kinda like they are letting there little girl go speech… the bride and groom can speak thanking people for coming and being a part of the special day

  16. QUESTION:

  17. QUESTION:
Can someone give me some best man wedding speeches and tips?
I was chosen by the groom to be the best man. I need to make a best man wedding speech. But I am feeling that I have no ideas to include in my best man wedding speech. Can anyone give me some good tips please?

    • ANSWER:
I guess you are feeling the responsibility of delivering good best man wedding speeches. Try not to get so nervous. It has been a great honor that you have been chosen by the groom as the best man for this special moment for the couple. Feel confident as you know the groom better than anyone else. Besides the best man wedding speech you also have to coordinate the wedding and reception so that everything runs smoothly.
Try to plan in advance as to have time to create a quality speech.
As you begin your best man wedding speech, it is important to introduce yourself first and then thank the bride and groom’s parents for inviting everyone to the wedding.
Include some jokes. You can find many on-line wedding jokes as to gain the guests attention. Try to keep all your jokes ‘PG’ rated.
Tell a story about how you got to know the couple. Try to show through your stories, what kind of person the groom is. Try to mention good qualities.
Say why the newly weds are a perfect match and finally it would be time to toast. You can conclude your best man wedding speech by offering them a word of advice for the future. Wish them luck and ask everyone to raise their glass and congratulate them on the new life they are about to begin together.

  18. QUESTION:
What is the best wedding speeches online ?
My friend well be a groom and i has chosen to be his best man.So I looking for the best wedding speech online .

    • ANSWER:
The best “best man” speech I ever heard was on a TV show called My Boys:

“When Bobby and I were kids, we used to sit at the bleachers at Wrigley trying to catch homeruns. Depending on the wind and who was at bat, I would switch seats about a dozen times a game. But not Bobby. Bobby would pick a seat, sit in it, and wait. And during those years, I never caught one ball. Bobby caught four. That pretty much sums up my little brother. He’s always had the patience and the faith to wait for good things to find him. That’s true with his friends, and his career, and now Elsa. Anyway here’s to Bobby for catching Elsa. Homerun number five.”

It’s perfect. Not cheesy at all, thoughtful and compliments the bride in a non-generic way.

order of speeches at a wedding reception?
does anyone know what order the speeches come at a wedding reception,is it groom, best man, brides father,or is it best man brides father groom .i’m at a loss any help would be gratefully accepted!!

    • ANSWER:
It depends if you want it ‘Custom’ or ‘Traditional’. Custom is anything you want it to be. Any way you want. Think of it as a Custom setting for a game. Traditional is only the best man to speak. Most people use Custom. Its your choice. Do whatever you want.

  27. QUESTION:
Is it uncommon for a groom to hear his best mans speech before his wedding?
I am 17, and was picked to be the best man at my best friends wedding. I just finished my speech but he wants to hear it before, is it wrong for me to do this? I don’t really know if there is some sort of tradition or not because this is the first wedding I’m actually in and my first best mans speech.

    • ANSWER:
Your friend is nervous. Usually the best man’s speech is a surprise to everyone, but your friend is concerned that you will say something inappropriate or embarrassing. You do not have to tell him the speech verbatim, but you should at least reassure him. You are his friend. You will not do anything to ruin his big day.

  28. QUESTION:
In the grooms wedding speech does he just compliment the Bride or does he raise a toast to her ?

    • ANSWER:
There aren’t any hard and fast rules. In your groom speech a groom can raise a toast to his bride, and why not? Though, not every groom will do that and that’s a very good reason why a groom should consider toasting his bride. In fact, it’s an excellent idea.

  29. QUESTION:
where can I find sample grooms’ wedding day speeches for free?

    • ANSWER:
If you’re at a loss, then google. I did a two second search and was stunned at all the sites that came up. I won’t bother to list them, because they all seemed ridiculous. Just type in Groom Wedding Speech. But…

You don’t need a template. (They all seemed really bad) If you’re not big on public speaking, it can honestly just be a 30 second, thanks for coming everyone, we appreciate it, don’t forget to take your wedding favor. You already had the marriage, you don’t need to make another elaborate declaration of love for your bride. You can do that in private with your new wife and speak from the heart and not freak out because of 200 relatives staring at you.

If you have to go to the internet to find a sample speech, no one is going to enjoy it. Especially not your bride. Just make a short thank you. The speeches are really for the best man and maid of honor anyway.

  30. QUESTION:
I need mother of the groom speech for my sons wedding on saturday something short because i get really nervous

    • ANSWER:
I have never heard of the mother of the groom making a toast unless the father has past away or is not present at the wedding for some reason. It is the bridegrooms father who makes the toast. If, in fact, the father will not/cannot be there then you can use this…

“I don’t need to tell you what a wonderful person (the brides name) is, but I do want to tell you how happy I am to welcome her as my new daughter-in-law. (Raise your glass) To (bride’s name) and (son’s name).”

      OR

“I would like to ask you to join me in drinking a toast to two wonderful people without whom this wedding could never have been possible (bride’s name)’s mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. (bride’s maiden name) (raise your glass, drink and then) Now also to my son (son’s name) and my new daughter-in-law (bride’s name) welcome to the family (bride’s name) (raise your glass, drink).”

      Good luck!

  31. QUESTION:
    Wedding Speeches/Toasts?
Does anyone have any idea who normally gives a speech/toast at weddings, I need help my wedding is in August and we don’t know who to ask to do speeches, neither of our parents will give speeches.

I was told that an old time friend is suppose to toast to the bride and someone from each of our families is suppose to welcome the other into our families, also that the maid of honour isnt suppose to give a speech.

Any Ideas where I can find help for the bride and grooms speech.

Also we’re going to be introduced at our reception and go around to each table during the reception to thank everyone individually our guest list is 70 close friends and family. Also thank people in person after the church Ceremony…..So is a receiving line neccessary???

    • ANSWER:
This really depends on your family structure and who is willing to stand up and talk in front of a crowd. =)

Most of the time the best man and the maid of honor will speak along with the parents of the bride and groom. Like I said above this, it all depends on who is willing to talk. You never want to force someone to talk, or to say something that will make them feel uncomfortable.

Sometimes, other people will want to talk at your wedding like an old friend, or someone that is like a parent, and or even you officiant if they have know you for a long time.

Who gives speeches and who gives toasts at a wedding? What if the groom has 2 best men and I have both a maid and matron of honor?

  33. QUESTION:
Who has to make a speech at a wedding? Is it just the groom, the best man and the father of the bride?

  34. QUESTION:
Can anyone copy and paste a Groom’s wedding speech for me, getting married tomorrow and need a good speech.

    • ANSWER:
Ladies and Gentleman, I would like to welcome you to this special
celebration of “brides name” and “grooms name” marriage and to announce the
order of speeches. The first speech will be delivered by the father of the
bride, followed by a speech from “grooms name”, my own speech as best man
and a speech from the Head Bridesmaid, and after all that , if you are
still awake, you can have your dinner. I hand you over now to the father
      of the bride.

      Best Mans Speech

Ladies and gentlemen, firstly May I start by thanking “grooms name”, on
behalf of the bridesmaids, for his kind words.. and for those of you who
don’t know me, and especially for those who I meet in the bar later, my name
      is “Theo what r u drinking”…..

I would also like to remind you, that the more you laugh at my jokes the
faster my speech will be delivered.

When “grooms name” asked me to be his best man I was initially thrilled at
the prospect. But it didn’t take long for this feeling of well being to
dissolve into utter apprehension as I remembered the last time I had to
stand up in front of a room full of people. I was found guilty and fined
      £200…

So I hope you will be a little bit more forgiving and lenient than the last
      lot were.

I have never been a best man before so lacking any experience I thought that
the simplest way to put a speech together was to get one from the Internet,
I looked at hundreds of ready-made speeches only to discover that 95% of
them always start with the same joke.. That being best man is like making
love to the Queen Mother – it’s a great honour – but nobody wants to do it -
so I thought I wouldn’t use that one.

Actually, being the best man is a big responsibility, and one that I have
not taken lightly. I conducted a lot of research to make sure that I wouldn’
t forget anything, and came up with a checklist of what my basic duties
      should be.

Item 1 Arrange the Stag Night

The less said about this the better, but I think you will agree that “grooms
name” does look rather fetching in an orange affro.

Item 2 On the wedding day, bring a credit card and loads of cash in case
there is anything the groom may have forgotten to pay for.

Well, ever since I have known “grooms name”, I have had to do this so
      thats nothing new.

Item 3 Help the groom dress himself.

It took a while, but I did eventually manage to persuade “grooms name” that
the Church had a strict no jeans and trainers door policy

Item 4 Ensure that the groom is sober, punctual, has his shoelaces tied ,
his flies done up and uses the toilet before the service,

I knew I had forgotten something, you can go to the toilet now “grooms
      name”.

Item 5 It is my responsibility to make sure his face and hair are in order.

I think that this duty is quite unfair, if God couldn’t do it the first time
      what chance to I have?

The rules also stated that I should sing the praises of the groom and tell
you all about his good points.

So what can I say about him.

      He’s Handsome
      Witty
      Intelligent
      Charming

      Er..Er…

Sorry “grooms name”, what’s that say, I can’t read your writing. Oh, yeah
      good in bed sorry.

I will now move on to reading out some cards and telegrams.

      To “grooms name”
      - best wishes on your wedding “grooms name”- your usual place awaits
      you on your return.
      - From the Governor of pentonville jail.
      To “brides name”
      - I’m sorry that I couldn’t marry you myself and had to get one of my
mates to do it but best wishes on your special day.
      - From the pope.

In fact it is customary at this point for the best man to launch a severe
character assassination of the groom and to tell you a bit about the stag
party, but I am far too scared of “brides name” to do that so I will
instead give “grooms name” some advice, which I hope he will find useful in
      the years to come

      “grooms name”:-

      1. There are 5 rings involved in marriage: Engagement ring, wedding ring,
      suffering, torturing and enduring.

      2. Always tell your wife those 3 important little word’s . “you’re right
      dear”.

      3. It’s also very important to get on with your mother-in-law. One of my
friends didn’t speak to his mother in law for two years. Its wasn’t because
he didn’t like her. It’s just that he thought it was rude to interrupt.

Now, it gives me great pleasure (and immense relief) to ask you all to stand
      and raise your glasses:

“brides name” and “grooms name” “May your years ahead prosper with love,
affection, health & happiness, which you both richly deserve”…. To “brides
      name” and “grooms name”.

  39. QUESTION:
In what order do speeches go after a wedding?
I’ve heard so many variations and I’m not sure if there is a traditional order but does it go Father of the bride>Groom>Best man? Or does it not matter?

    • ANSWER:
We had, father of the bride, groom and finished with the best man. Do whatever you want and in which ever order you want. It is your wedding afterall.

  40. QUESTION:
i can’t find a website on How to write a speech for a wedding,on how to welcome the groom to the family!?

    • ANSWER:
The following site has fill-in-the-blank templates that you can personalize. This might help.

  41. QUESTION:
who usually uses wedding flutes at the reception, the entire wedding party or the bride and groom?
I’m not sure how this works. Am I supposed to buy wedding flutes for myself and my husband or for everyone at the head table (I already got everyone involved in the wedding a small gift). Does the banquet hall usually provide champagne glasses for the rest of the head table or do they not even use them? Also, when am I supposed to use them? Is it after the best man and maid of honor give speeches or some other time or…?

    • ANSWER:
I would say the couple only uses them–obviously if there is a champagne toast, everyone drinks out of a traditional flute, but sometimes friends and family of the bride and groom provide really cute, personalized flutes for the new couple. This is a picture of everyone’s flutes for the toast: http://www.spygun.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/champagne-flute.jpg
Here is one for the bride and groom: http://media.redgaloshes.com/sq/273/008300.jpg

      So cute!! Congrats!! :)

Whoever is the caterer will provide the flutes if you tell them you are having a champagne toast. You use them as soon as you (the couple) arrive. I am not having speeches at the wedding, only the reception, so we are toasting as soon as we arrive.

  42. QUESTION:
Is it necessary for the bride and groom to make a toast at their wedding?
I am not a good public speaker – actually, I am awful (I turn all red and blotchy and can’t think straight). My fiance is very soft spoken and not much into public speeches either. If you were at a wedding would you find it odd or even think twice about the fact that neither bride or groom made a toast (or a “thank you for coming” rather)? It’s a fairly small wedding at about 75 guests. Thanks so much. 24 days and counting :) yipee!
Will the best man and MOH just make the toats or am I supposed to ask them if they are?

    • ANSWER:
Actually, most weddings that I’ve been to (including my own) didn’t have a toast made by the bride and groom. The best man typically does a toast and sometimes even the maid of honor, but its not necessary for the bride and groom to do one! As far as thanking the guests for coming, it should be done face to face with the guests while you and your husband are mingling. You don’t have to announce it in speech form. Good luck and have fun! It’ll be here before you know it.

  43. QUESTION:
Have you ever been to a wedding where the bride and groom did not make a speech?
you know, to thank people, or thanking their parents, or whatever. I know other people are supposed to speak, but shouldn’t the bride/groom? thanks

    • ANSWER:
we didn’t make a speech at our wedding, but we did walk around and thank everyone individually.

  44. QUESTION:
Got any ideas for a grooms wedding speech?
i am getting married in a few months has anyone got any ideas

    • ANSWER:
Some tips on writing a groom speech:
The first tip is that you need to thank everyone for attending. Thank all your guests for setting aside their day to make you wedding special for you and your bride.
The second tip is that you need to thank the bride’s parents and your parents for raising you well and helping you out in starting you long life. Now make sure that you also thank everyone involved in the reception and dinner party.
The third tip on making a good groom speech is that you need to throw a little bit of comedy into it. Put a few one liners into your speech, or maybe a funny story that happened as you were getting ready for the wedding. No one wants to hear a boring speech, so make it fun.
Our fourth tip is that you need to express your feelings to your attendee’s on how you feel about how amazing you bride is. Tell them about how sweet and caring she is towards you, and how she completes you. – Remember to make a bigger deal out of the bride than the maid of honor!

  45. QUESTION:
How long should wedding speeches be IN TOTAL?
How long is too long for wedding speeches to go on for IN TOTAL before people get restless? The speeches will be AFTER the main course (before dessert) so people WON’T be hungry.

My fiance and I have a few people who we want to say a formal speech on top of the usual. The speakers will be (not in this order):

    – Father of Bride
    – Father of Groom
    – Bride (I really want to speak! lol)
    – Groom
    – Best Man
    – Groomsman (not traditional… but fiance really wants this)
    – Maid Of Honor
    – Brides Brother (important to me for various reasons)
    – Maybe Bridesmaid so she doesn’t feel left out!?!?

I know it’s a long list… but each one is important to my fiance and/or me. What do you think? What time limit should each speech have to make this acceptable and not boring? (All of the boys are naturally pretty funny which should help at least. And the MC will be funny too)

    Thanks
We’re not having a rehursal dinner.

    • ANSWER:
Sorry….but that is WAY too many speeches. But if you must….make sure they keep it to no longer than 3 minutes EACH, and break them up…Traditional speech/toast by the Best Man and MOH, then eat….Then a few more speeches, then first dances, then finish out the speeches.

  46. QUESTION:
Wedding toast/speech help? From Sister of the Groom?
I need to prepare a special occasion speech for a public speaking class. 3-5 minutes long. I am doing a toast for my brother’s wedding. It’s only 1 minute so far…

Good evening everyone. It is with great joy that I say congratulations to my brother Craig and his beautiful new bride, Tiffany. They say there is someone out there for everyone, and I think that Craig has definitely found his other half with Tiff.
From the first time I met Tiffany, I knew she was someone special to my brother. As I got to know Tiff more she became someone who is special to me as well. Tiffany, you’re everything I could ever want for my brother and I am pleased to welcome you to our family. Over the last few years we have already become like sisters, as of today it’s official.
Craig, I am so happy for you. You are going to be a great husband. Ronald Reagan said, “There is no greater happiness for a man than approaching a door at the end of a day, knowing someone on the other side of that door is waiting for the sound of his footsteps.” When I see the happiness that radiates from you when you are with Tiffany and when you see her smile, I know that you agree with Reagan.
I wish you both the greatest happiness throughout your lives. May the best of your yesterdays
be the worst of your tomorrows. Let’s all raise our glasses in honor of the bride and groom!

    • ANSWER:
Sounds good except for the VERY beginning. “It is with great joy that I say congratulations” came off sounding like a reverse eulogy to me. Maybe you could say, I am honored and elated to be standing here to honor two of the most special people in my life, my brother Craig and his beautiful new bride, Tiffany.

Kudos on killing two birds with one stone by using your toast as your speech topic for your class! :)
      Good luck!
